Chapter 103 - The Spy

Over the next week, Karen had successfully integrated into life inside the prison, and also learned some basic facts about this place, such as the surrounding towers on the grounds, which generally remained empty, at least during the week she has been in this place.

The higher guard towers seem to be just for observing the general yard of this place, and at most there are one to two people, these men change shifts every six hours.

But she evidently did not know about security at night, as a new survivor, she is not allowed to wander the hallway late at night.

Then there is the staff in this place, she was sure there shouldn't be more than twenty-five guards on the other side, and the rest are just old people, women and children, she even found several old people who needed someone to watch them all the time. Several women pushed them in wheelchairs to get fresh air and sunshine.

Moreover, under her observation, it seems that in this place they are short of weapons and ammunition, every time a group goes out, most of them are equipped with cold weapons, she has heard only a handful of gunshots these days, and most of them come from the watchtower.

These days, she even made a friend, a beautiful woman named Lina. This person answered all the questions and told all about the places on the base she couldn't see. Sometimes she asked casual questions. Every question, Lina answered them and talked a lot about it.

According to Lina herself, this place is too boring. The whole day is just about farming and raising cattle, which is not interesting at all. It is not easy to meet new people, so she likes to talk to her.

Karen was very grateful for the luck she had in such a short time, thinking that if the Governor had sent someone else here, maybe the results would not be the same, but it was also the life here in these last few days that made Karen, who had firmly believed in the Governor, have some existential doubts.

She feels that the people of this place are very good, especially their leader, the man named Airon, who even took the trouble to talk to her on two occasions. What she has seen and heard these days is also very different from what the governor described, especially the story of that woman with a sword.

The name of that black-skinned woman is Michonne, and the Governor who forbade her not to communicate with him, for fear that she will be discovered, but Karen could not help but contain her curiosity, so she still tried to contact Michonne.

Although the other party didn't talk much and looked fierce, Karen could still hear interesting information from the other party's few words.

First of all, she told him her story and from her words she was not a spy from this place, and she had not had contact with the people in the prison before she was taken to Woodbury.

The second is that the other party said that Woodbury is a gathering place that relies on killing and looting to maintain their own survival, wolves that are stained with the blood of others, an illusion of survival!

As to why she said that, Michonne didn't explain and also didn't choose to insist, she just gave her a meaningful look and left with the sword on her back.

In the unit where Karen stayed, she was curled up on the bed at the moment, holding a radio between her hands tightly, the expression on her face was very confused and now she doesn't really know who she should believe. It had already been ten days, should she send a message to the Governor?

If she didn't send the message some time later, would her friends be in danger? Familiar faces flashed in her mind, and then the Governor's face appeared, and a sentence the Governor said before leaving also flashed in her mind.

"Don't believe any of them, just believe what you see! The other side is conspiring and very soon they will attack us, they want what Woodbury has. Your friends and neighbors will await news of your success!"

Karen's tightly clenched eyebrows finally parted, and the expression on her face baked pacifically, as if she had made up her mind, she pressed the button on her radio.

...

Woodbury, Governor's Room.

Leaving the radio in his hand, the Governor showed a faint look of excitement, but it was so fleeting that even Martinez beside him didn't notice it.

"Do you think what he said is credible?" Martinez asked with a face full of concern, even if he also heard the conversation, he can't be convinced.

The Governor's expression was quite confident. He always felt that his words and brainwashing of all the survivors in this place were effective and wonderful!

"The situation you reported is not much different from what I assumed. The reason she was sent was to confirm my assumptions. Even if the other party forced her to tell me this, it won't be a problem. We recently gathered more than eighty survivors, didn't you see how those people left the towers empty?"

After saying that, the Governor remarked, "When we finish eliminating them, we will tell the people here that we helped that shelter that was recently occupied by murderers. When they all see how wonderful that place is, won't they be grateful?"

From what Martinez understands about the governor, although he is a cruel and bloodthirsty person, he has not made a wrong decision so far. Thinking about this, Martinez suppressed her doubts, nodded to the governor and left the room.

...

Back to the prison.

Tossing the radio in her hand, Karen was inexplicably nervous. Her heart pounding, taking a few tidy breaths, it was only then that she began to calm down.

She wanted to reach out to grab her backpack from her room, only to realize that her hand was shaking violently. Was this the feeling of betrayal? Karen thought silently, knowing she had good stability in her hands, it was completely inexplicable that she was shaking so badly.

At this point, she just wanted to go outside to get some air, even though she knew the rules of the base and was not allowed to leave unless there was an emergency, Karen didn't care less at this point and walked out the door of the unit and stood outside, looking at the quiet place

After getting away from the city lights and the pollution caused by the fabricated, the night sky today became more and more beautiful, countless stars shone over the sky below the prison.

"I'm doing it for my friends, I'm doing the right thing!"

Repeating this prayer silently in her heart, this self-hypnosis finally made Karen's breathing steady and her hands gradually stabilized.

"Are you getting some fresh air?"

Karen, who was looking at the sky, suddenly heard a man's voice next to her, due to fright she screamed and her body ducked to the ground while covering her face with her hands.

"I'm sorry, it seems I scared you."

It was her mistake as she didn't look, she really didn't expect someone to be right next to her after stepping outside.

Karen didn't vaguely see who was coming until she stood still. It turned out to be the leader of this shelter, Airon!

"Ah, you really scared me half to death!" Maren patted her chest, feeling her heart pounding.

Airon didn't mind her performance, he walked towards her and sat down on the floor, indicating Karen to sit down as well.

The two simply sat there, Airon said nothing, and Karen was scared enough to say a word. At this point, she was very glad it was nighttime, and the other party shouldn't be able to see her expression. As she was thinking about these unnecessary things, Airon finally spoke up.

"Have you done it, how did the report to the Governor go?"
