Chapter 99 - The first meeting

Michonne, who was still debating in her subconscious, looked back up at the departing crowd. For some reason, these people gave him a different feeling than the governor. Although the man who was the leader seemed to be calm and far removed from any kind of violence, everything told her that this was not the case.

Michonne, who had always believed in her intuition, decided to follow the crowd but first she planned to look at the base of these people with her own eyes and then she would make a decision.

Soon, a large chain link fence appeared followed by majestic walls in front of it. The large fields outside the base, the people working on the land and the moat were in full view of her eyes, she inadvertently followed the crowd towards the entrance. The smell coming in stunned her on the spot, the air was filled with the odor of various animal feces, mixed with the rotting smell of walkers.

The people of this shelter did not waste their time and energy caring for the flowers and plants, but were working a system of crops around the wall and the moat which caused Michonne to have other thoughts of this place.

She also found many details that were somewhat curious, there was a secluded place where the corpses of the walkers were placed, which at first puzzled her a lot and very few knew what these walkers were for.

On the other side, people were holding work tools, due to the appearance of unwanted people in the forest, everyone had taken an hour break before resuming their work.

Then she heard some shouts of children playing on the other side of the inner wall, she had not heard those smiles so full of security and frankness.

After walking through the inner courtyard gate, she finally saw the source of the sound, which turned out to be a small playground!

Seeing this, she finally understood the meaning of Airon's words before he left.

Standing in the middle of the general square, Michonne noticed that there were still fourteen soldiers in military uniforms standing next to them, the situation was silent and she waited on the side for the arrangements they made in this place.

"What's the catch this time?" Shane asked with some bewilderment.

Airon, seeing everyone looking at them, smiled and said, "Your leader seems to have somewhat strange behavior, I don't blame him, I too have committed sins of which I dare not even name. But, I want to test the Governor, what will he do next?"

"We have nothing to worry about, we just have to restrain our strength and not put all our eggs in one basket, apparently not everyone in that shelter led by the governor is bad."

They all looked on in silence, they had heard from reports that he and a not very large group completely wiped out a shelter similar to the one named Governor, so they weren't too worried about what might happen in this very protected place.

...

While Airon personally was busy organizing all these people, Martinez and his group ran at high speed through the forest, they all kept running until they couldn't run anymore and finally stopped.

"Are they coming?" Martinez asked the people behind him.

"No, they really don't seem to have any intention of following us!" Crowley said with a smile full of happiness. He thought a moment ago that he was dead, but he didn't expect the other party to let them go so easily.

"Let's go fast, we have to get back before it gets dark!" Martinez, who had better physical strength, was the first to move, urging some people to move on.

It was already dark when Martinez's group finally hurried back to the vicinity of their Woodbury shelter. The exhausted people were anxious to get home at this point. They understood the horror of the night and the hidden dangers it concealed. Looking at the shelter that was already barely visible in front of them, they all quickened their pace.

One member of the group leading the way, the fatigue and stress during all this time made him lose his concentration, but a part of his body made him keep moving his legs forward.

Just as he was walking towards a large tree again, a walker suddenly came out from the other side without warning. The first hand man raised his hand to block the attack, but together when he reached out the walker's mouth bit him.

"Ahhhh! Damn!" The man screamed in pain and frustration at the same time as the walker lunged at him. The man's painful scream attracted the walkers that wandered in the vicinity.

Martinez originally wanted to save him, but discovered that a large number of walkers were approaching his direction. In just a few moments, there were already two new walkers attacking the man lying on the ground.

The other four looked at each other, and they all looked at Martinez with hesitant eyes.

"Come on, there's no chance of saving him!" A group of people quickly turned and ran toward the door of the shelter.

After working hard all day, there was no gain, they all narrowly lost their lives at the hands of a mysterious group and one was bitten by walkers. As soon as they entered the shelter, they all went straight to their rooms.

Martinez also wanted to go to bed, but the governor was still waiting for him, so he had no choice but to make an effort and meet with the Governor.

"Knock, knock, knock! Sir!"

"Come in..."

Martinez opened the door and walked towards the Governor's room, he knew the Governor shouldn't be asleep at this hour, to be precise, the Governor wouldn't go to bed if they didn't return.

Looking at Martinez's haggard face, the Governor put down the book in his hands, turned his head to assess the state of this person in front of him and asked, "What happened?"

After sorting out his thoughts, Martinez explained, "As planned we managed to kill the first woman, the other was placed under arrest. But a new group of survivors took that woman. On the way back, someone was bitten by a walker."

Hearing that one person died, the governor's expression didn't change much, but his eyes lit up when he heard that they had found another group of people.

"Another group of survivors? How many are there?"

Hearing these questions, Martinez said with an uncertain tone, "First it was a group of eleven, they appeared in front of us. It seemed that all they wanted was for us to stop advancing. Then their leader arrived, bringing two more people with him. That's all we can see, there were about fourteen people, by the way, they looked good and everything indicates that they do not suffer from food. The leader explicitly told me that we will not attack them, or else..."

"Otherwise what?" the governor asked in confusion.

"Otherwise they would kill us like the garbage we are." Martinez said as he remembered the words Airon had said to him.

A trace of anger appeared in the governor's eyes, apparently the other side dared to threaten him. When the Governor heard this, he stood up with his hands behind his back, walked to the window, looked at the silent place outside his house, thought for a moment and asked, "Do you think that group of people are all the strength of that group?"

Martinez raised his head, remembered all the details he saw at the time, and after a while he said, "The weapons, the other party's equipment is very good, they had good weapons, I'm afraid that the people inside the helicopter were rescued by that group, so I don't think these people are all their soldiers."

The governor did not speak immediately after hearing those words, he simply paced around the room, and Martinez stood there silently waiting for his decision.

"How many men from this place can you fight with now?"

"There are over a hundred survivors and there are about seventy to eighty people who can fight..." Hearing what the governor said, Martinez blurted out the information directly with a bit of disbelief.

"Go rest for now, let me think quietly." Said the Governor, dismissing Martinez with a single wave of his hand.

After Martinez left, the Governor pulled a bunch of keys from his waistband and walked to the back door of a room.

After closing the door, he sat down on a couch in the center of the room, with a dim light in the room, his eyes twinkling with an indescribable feeling.

On one side of the room, the fish tanks that had previously filled the entire wall were filled with water, and there were walkers' heads in the water.

The governor suddenly stretched out his arms and embraced the "daughter" who in an unknown moment came to him, and tried to calm her with his arms, closed his eyes and began to think silently.

Looking at the state of his daughter, the Governor's eyes became cold and he muttered quietly, "I will get everything I want, daughter!"
