Chapter 62 - The terror of all

As the convoy of two large trucks and a bus were leaving the urban suburbs, Airon, who was on the bus, looked at the group of six people who were seated as they looked at him in silence.

"Thank you so much for saving us, we thought the shelter at the CDC facility had been destroyed by the infected!" Carlos said with a somewhat unnatural expression, happy that he could have survived.

"I'm glad you all survived the ordeal you just experienced, my name is Airon Darcy, leader of the S.C.T., nice to meet you all."

Daniel and everyone else nodded as they listened to Airon's words, they had heard the messages from a shelter where they called themselves S.C.T. but they all felt uncomfortable seeing the long silence that followed after those words.

"Apparently you are from the special unit of the police, I would like to request your services, skilled people like you can help me protect the community." Airon removed the mask covering his face and smiled.

"Hu... Of course, we would be ready to support in what we can, my name is Daniel and this is my partner Jim, we are both from the special S.W.A.T. squad and we would be ready to support with what we can in this crisis."

Hearing Daniel's words, Airon nodded with a slight smile and pointed to some crates behind them, where there were weapons and ammunition, "Looks like they ran out of equipment, you can take what you need in the crates, we don't know what will happen later so we should all be prepared."

"Understood sir!"

At the driver's nod, the attendant was smiling slightly, he knew that everyone without exception would sooner or later be ready to follow Arion. This is a skill very few have, a born leader who can handle any situation.

"We will move to the shelter where former soldiers, police and agents from other departments take care of each other. Your courage is important to create a new one, but remember only one thing, everyone is replaceable."

When he finished saying this, Airon walked to a seat to look at the situation outside the convoy, but his body was ready to move if any of these people wanted to make a stupid move.

"If I may ask you a question, what happened to the shelter at the CDC?" Lina asked in a meek voice.

Airon looked at the girl who had just spoken and said, "We are moving the shelter to the outskirts of the city, staying in this city is not optimal at all."

Apparently these people were heading to the CDC in search of shelter, long before leaving the facility Airon had ordered to stop issuing alerts about a shelter, this because sooner or later they would leave that place.

Now that everything was in order, they were heading to the prison to act from that point and begin to expand according to their plans. While thinking about all this, Airon remained silent.

...

While Airon's group who were picking up more and more survivors were slowly approaching the prison, Shane's group was madly searching for Lori who had left the prison.

"Over here! I see tracks left by cars."

At that moment, Shane and his group of five arrived at the intersection where Lori had passed earlier, Daryl like any good observer got out of the car to investigate, saw the roads, tried to figure out the direction where Lori continued.

Some people got out of the car to investigate, Glenn looked in the distance at a pile in the distance of things piled up, everything indicated that they could be construction materials.

"Look, we need to point this out, have they looked in that direction yet? Those things look like building materials and they glow, we could use them later for prison remodeling and construction." Glenn slowly got infected by Airon, now everything he looks at can be used for survival.

"Is this the time to talk about that? I really don't understand what's going on in your head, you're slowly becoming more like Airon looking even under rocks for resources." Daryl looked at young Glenn who seemed very excited about the discovery he made, his voice was full of mockery.

"We must take advantage of all the materials so they won't be stolen by someone else!" Glenn looked at the things in the distance and secretly pointed to the spot where they were.

"Yes, a good mentality."

...

Not long after, the whole group finally arrived in a small town. Richard, who was sitting in the back, pointed to the van parked not far away on the side of the road and shouted, "This is the car! Mrs. Grimes was driving this car before she got out of prison!"

However, Shane and Daryl's eyes had already set their sights on a residential house in front of them. They saw at least a dozen walkers surrounding the door of the residential house, knocking on the door constantly.

"And I wanted to get to the city." Daryl said, understanding what was happening.

Shane simply accelerated the car and turned the wheel aggressively slammed into the group of walkers up ahead.

"Auge! Crack!"

After a few loud noises, the car came to a stop with two walkers on top of it, and then several people jumped out of the car one after another, pulling out machetes in their hands.

Daryl raised his hand and shot a crossbow arrow into the head of one walker. With a flick of the dagger in his hand, he hit the head of another walker and after clearing the nearby places, the rest jumped out and began to eliminate other walkers.

There were more than a dozen walkers in the vicinity, and the five people skillfully eliminated all of those walkers almost effortlessly. Shane stepped forward to the door of the house immediately.

"Knock, knock! Lori, are you there?"

Lori, who was originally leaning against the door, stood up as soon as she heard the sound of a car. Through the door lock, she saw all the people.

The familiar faces made Lori's eyes turn red and the tears fell again!

"She survived." Right now, that's the only thought on her mind.

Hearing Shane knocking on the door, Lori quickly wiped away her tears, straightened her clothes and opened the door.

"Shane!"

Seeing the door open and Lori standing in front of him untouched, Shane finally let out a long sigh of relief, then his tone became stern, "What the hell were you thinking, do you know how dangerous it is to go out alone these days? If something happened to you, how do you think I'd explain it to Rick?"

"I'm so sorry! I was just trying to..." The words wouldn't come out of her mouth, Lori didn't know how to explain the irrational decision she made. She knew now that this world was cruel, and anywhere it was all over.

Shane sighed, he wanted to say a few more words but stopped himself, he didn't have to have that role, Rick should take over.

The rest of the group had no words to speak, they just looked at Lori in silence, they could understand and emphasize on the actions Rick's wife took, but they didn't agree on what she did, but there was no point in talking now.

"Let's head back now, Glenn, take care of driving the van Lori brought." Shane signaled that it was time to retire and they all climbed into the cars.

A group of six people and two cars turned around and headed back.

However, things were not that simple. As they drove a few hundred yards out of town, a few walkers came out of the woods on the side of the road, and then another ten, followed by hundreds, and more walkers came out of the woods and appeared in the distance filling the place in an instant.

Cold sweat broke out on Shane's back in an instant, he slowed suddenly and stopped. Glenn behind him startled and poked his head out of the window and looked at Shane strangely.

"Don't you know how to drive? Activate the lights to let me know you'll stop, what happens if we crash and we're left without a car? We can't..." Glenn's words stopped as he turned his head back.

A huge mob of walkers!

A horde of walkers!

These words popped into everyone's mind at the same time, and Shane quickly moved his hand, as he put the gear on and turned around, he signaled Glenn behind him, signaling him to leave quickly.

Glenn had already seen the situation coming and knew what to do without Shane's reminder at this point.

Turning around quickly, the two cars passed through town at this point and moved forward again.

Picking up the radio, Shane alerted Sam Valdez to this situation, "Zz.... This is Shane here, a very large horde of camiants is in the nearest town not far from the prison!"

"Zz... Understood, how many walkers do you estimate?" Sam Valdez asked in a cold voice.

"Hundreds, even thousands of walkers." Shane said nervously, this was the first time he was looking at such a large horde of walkers.

"Zz... I get it, we'll prepare in case the horde strays into the prison..."

"Understood!"

...

Hershel's farm.

Hershel, who was standing next to Otis' wife Patricia and daughter Beth feeding the horses, now looked outside and saw two cars speeding down the road.

Both cars were driving very fast and dust was rising behind them. The sun was already covering to the west, painting the sky a red color.

Hershel didn't know who was coming, so just in case, he signaled his daughter to run to the house, grabbed a shotgun and stood in the doorway.

"Hershel, it's me!"

As the two cars approached, Shane reached out his hand and shouted loudly.

Hershel let out a sigh of relief when he saw it was an acquaintance, put the gun down and walked out of the house.

"Shane! Why are you here, where's Maggie and Otis?"

For some reason, Hershel always had an ominous premonition when he saw Shane and the others, so he was quick to ask.

Seeing Shane's somewhat nervous expression, Hershel's heart skipped a beat, and before Shane could explain the situation, he anxiously asked again, "What happened, where's Maggie and the others who went out with you?"

Shane shook his head and didn't speak right away. He was organizing his words, but Glenn next to him couldn't take it, so he walked over to Hershel first and said, "Hershel! Everyone needs to pack your things and leave quickly with us. A large horde of walkers is coming this way!"

"Horde of walkers? What do you mean horde of walkers?" Hershel hated it when people called the sick people as undead or walkers. In his opinion, these people are just sick.

Glenn heard this from Maggie, and immediately changed his words, "They are the sick people you mentioned, a lot of them are coming this way, at least thousands of them! We need to get out of here right away!"

"Hehe, are you asking me to leave my farm just because of your worries?" Hershel didn't feel panic after hearing Glenn's words as an answer, but as words of a frightened young man.

Glenn was immediately speechless. He had heard Maggie say that the old man was very stubborn, but he had never experienced it personally. He thought he would have a chance to persuade Hershel and they would move to the prison in the future.

This was a bloody emergency!

Suddenly, Glenn thought of one thing. In the current situation, he could only gamble. Maybe Hershel would hate him in the future, but it was better than Maggie hating him in the future!

At this thought, Glenn no longer hesitated and said aloud, "Hershel, don't you understand? These things aren't human anymore! They're already dead! You should think about your daughters, do you want them to die with you or do you want them to suffer your death?"
