The large group of cars drove into the city with extreme care as they correctly evaded the large wave of walkers that were most likely in the parking lot where Airon took the car to escape from this place.
The sound of car and truck engines could be heard in the silent streets, everyone felt slightly fearful of what could happen in this place and at the same time a little excited, everyone's heart was pounding, everyone's breaths were concentrated and everyone's eyes were watching the road.
Seeing that the road was getting closer, Airon took the radio to start issuing orders about the care to be taken: "Here Airon, if things get complicated do not use heavy weapons, we have to eliminate the walkers as quietly as possible."
"Once we are in place, place the vehicles in a strategic location and don't forget to keep your eyes wide open, keep yourselves informed about the surroundings."
The reminders began to be broadcast over the radio, everyone listened to it attentively and nodded silently, the walking speed slowed down a little to avoid being surprised.
After communicating with that old people's shelter, Airon from the reports knew the street and the exact location where the refugees were. He knew that the shelter was exposed in a very foolish and easy way, which indicates how desperate they are in that shelter.
"We are approaching the location, make a cover and let's start clearing all the walkers in the vicinity!"
Since there were twenty soldiers in Airon's group there were three group leaders of groups of six who were in charge of indicating precise instructions and making sure everyone is okay. This command structure makes Airon's job easier, his group leaders would be Mike, Marco and Sam Valdez.
Two of the leaders that were in place quickly began to issue orders and all the soldiers got out of the vehicles except for those parked in the machine guns and driver's seat.
Everyone quickly got out of the vehicles and began to eliminate all the walkers in the vicinity. All the vehicles were strategically placed to get out of this place as soon as possible if things went wrong somehow.
Airon approached with several soldiers on his back and knocked on the door of the shelter, he stepped back and waited silently.
"We are evacuating refugees, we arrived to aid civilians, the situation outside is not favorable so time is money." Mike said in a deep voice.
Just when they thought he would hesitate more, a young man opened the door to the shelter and said, "You can come in to see the place, we have some difficulties."
Airon frowned and walked into the shelter with a small group of soldiers, he didn't remember anything bad happening in the first few days that Rick had woken up.
As Airon walked into the shelter, he looked at many people mostly of Latino descent, many of whom had tattoos on their bodies.
"I thought no one would come to our aid in this place, we are happy to be able to see someone from the government after months of seeing no one."
A black skinned man approached Airon and the others with a somewhat serious expression, from his appearance Airon knew it was Guillermo.
When Airon saw Guillermo, he stepped forward and extended his hand in greeting. The reason he is here is to have these trustworthy people by his side, he was sure to trust the people guarding this place.
"My name is Airon Darcy, today we are evacuating to a safe place, we are parked ready to move. We received distress signals from this place." Airon looked at everyone and introduced himself.
"I'm Guillermo, I take care of this place." Guillermo looked at the uniform of the soldiers with a bit of bewilderment, their uniforms were different from the usual soldiers.
"Guillermo, it's time to move! There are vehicles outside to move all the people in this place." Airon had no intention of saying much and got straight to the point.
"You know, we have some elderly people who have difficulty walking, do you have a solution?" Guillermo was still hesitant, after all, they spent a lot of effort to build this meeting place.
Airon extended his palm, he nodded his head towards Merle, who was behind him, Merle turned around and walked out.
"Don't worry, we're ready!"
Not long after, Merle along with other soldiers came in with stretchers and wheelchairs.
The reason they didn't move out of the city earlier was mainly because there was no place to house these elderly people. Although many elderly people can walk alone, it is foolish to ask them to take a bumpy car until they reach a safe place. Airon has trucks and soldiers, what is there to doubt?
Guillermo didn't hesitate, he turned to Miguel and said, "Go inside and brief everyone, pack your things right away and come help move some elderly people."
Miguel nodded and rushed inside quickly.
As soon as Guillermo extended his hand, he motioned to enter the room for conversation, and the three of them also walked toward the backyard.
Merle was rarely reticent on the way, and his face was less hostile. At this point, he was just an ordinary person who seemed a bit of a ruffian.
At this time, Merle was quietly observing the situation in the nursing home. He found that there were many strong young men here, at least twenty of them. After reaching the backyard, he gradually found many women, both young and middle-aged. Yes, these people are mainly responsible for taking care of the elderly and doing some chores.
Then there are the elderly, there are about a dozen elderly, and about 6 or 7 of them are in a state of limited mobility.
Merle watched very carefully, admiring Airon and his tricks more and more. Compared with the elderly, there were many strong-looking men. With so many strong and young men, as long as they are equipped with weapons, they are a force not to be underestimated.
And most importantly, all these people will be eternally grateful to Airon for saving the elders of this place, having reliable people under him.
Merle found that Airon was walking slower and slower, and had already reached the position next to him. Knowing that the other party had something to say, he heard Airon whisper.
"How are you feeling?"
Merle smiled and replied, "I think it's pretty good!"
Hearing what Merle said, Airon knew that the other party understood his intentions. Merle was very smart, but he just didn't put his mind in the right way.
Some people soon arrived at Guillermo's room. There were people hurrying to pack their luggage on the way.
"I have nothing to bring, just some clothes" Guillermo did not hide anything, he pointed to the backpack and said.
"Guillermo, I will separate from you as I must go to a place where there are more survivors, the elderly will be moved to a safe place".
Guillermo waved his hand, indicating that it was not a problem, but still frowned and said, "It's okay, no problem."
Merle also said with some puzzlement, "Airon, is the place you're taking care of really that big?"
"No need to worry, the shelter my group takes care of is big enough to park many people, the CDC is the safest place." Airon knew that with all these people, the shelter would expand more and more.
Seeing that everything was safe, everyone nodded reassuringly.
...
In the evening, Airon's group again split into two groups, one drove all the way to the CDC and the other headed to the quarry.
After a busy afternoon, Guillermo's people finally evacuated with all the people to the CDC, this time deciding to stay with Airon to help with whatever while the others went directly to the shelter.
At that moment, there were many people standing at the entrance of the camp, led by Rick and Morgan.
Airon jumped out of the truck, smiled and waved to the two of them. Behind them were the people who were at the Atlanta mall earlier, and they all came up and hugged Airon one by one.
Lori also came up, greeted Airon and said with a smile, "It's been over a month and we finally met!"
Airon smiled and hugged Lori, who stepped forward, and Lori kept saying thank you.
Six soldiers and Guillermo got out of the Humvee cars and greeted everyone.
After exchanging pleasantries, everyone arrived at the open space in the center. Airon looked around. The open space was now surrounded by at least dozens of people.
Airon understands that not everyone is familiar with this and believes that everything will improve in the future.
Looking at the dozens of people in front of him, he suddenly felt that his work had not been in vain, these people are the base, the basis for survival in the last days.
The camp has always been run by Shane, but at this time most of the people were brought in by Airon, the atmosphere was a little strange and many were waiting for what Airon was going to say next.
Without waiting for everyone to ask questions, Airon slowly walked to the center of the open space and a low voice echoed in everyone's ears.
"Many people here do not know you. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Airon Darcy, I'm a former soldier and right now I'm protecting a CDC facility where I take care of everyone."
"When the outbreak happened I tried to do everything I could to secure the CDC. Luckily, in one of my operations I had contact with some people here. My chances only allow me to save a limited number of people, so you are the last ones I can take in at the moment."
As he spoke, Airon looked at everyone's expressions, numbness, confusion, fear, all kinds of emotions appeared on everyone's faces, he paused and continued.
"It pains me to be the person to tell you but the world will undergo great changes from now on. The world you knew already exists. In such circumstances, all that is left for us to do is to survive as a group."
"We can work together. The situation will not be worse than in this place, your lives will be very different, but I can assure you that in a short time you will not be afraid of this world."
"The plan is very simple. We will stay here and tomorrow morning we will head to the CDC. At the CDC you will receive training, and each of you can learn to master basic survival skills."
"Of course, no one will be forced and if you want to try your luck and go your separate ways, tomorrow will be the time for you to make up your mind."
"Regardless of your decisions, beware of strangers and be more wary of the living than the dead."
Airon paused again, his stern expression lifted everyone's spirits and they all looked at him with concern.
"Remember, the world as we know it has come to an end!"
