Chapter 9 - Sacrifice

In a dark cramped room below deck. Cerys sat close to the tiny window where she got enough air to breathe. She placed her face by the window allowing the rain and breeze to touch her face. It was a reminder that she was still alive, that she could still see the dark clouds one more time.

Ever since she got into this new world she hasn't had the time for a proper analysis of her situation since she jumped into the life of Cerys as soon as possible. She thought she had adjusted well, but here she was trapped and should to let go of her second chance at life.

She got so addicted to the life of Cerys that she forgot who she was. She wanted to be a better version of herself as Cerys, and that was why she adjusted. Yet it seems the quiet and cool lifestyle wasn't enough to hide her since in the end she got caught. It's still a wonder how they had caught her though. She had been nothing but meticulous at trying to act as Cerys.

Life throws you in different directions and hers seems to always involve death. It was as if death knew she wasn't supposed to be here and now he had decided to punish her by allowing her to be caught and now being trapped in the middle of a vast sea.

Her eyes filled with fear as she gazed out at the endless expanse of water surrounding her. She had been taken against her will and was unsure of her fate. Her captors had locked her in a small, cramped room with no means of escape. She had never been claustrophobic, even with the breeze she still found it hard to breathe. She couldn't calm her nerves from the fear because she had no clue what would happen to her.

Cerys could hear the sounds of the ship creaking and the waves crashing against the hull, adding to her feelings of helplessness. She was alone and scared, her thoughts consumed by worry and a longing for freedom. Despite her circumstances, she refused to give up hope, determined to find a way out. There must be something she could do.

She turned to look around the room she was in, looking for anything that she could use to release herself from the restraints she was in.

As Cerys pondered on what to do with herself, the door opened. Cerys' heart rate spiked up. She remembered what the man had said to her before he brought her here and she knew what he would do. She struggled against her restraints to stand up and find somewhere to hide or anything to be prepared.

As she struggled, the ship moved, pushing her to fall face flat on the ground, putting her in a position worse than before. The footsteps got closer and she had no other choice but to threaten.

"If you come any closer, I will head butt you and bite you".

She hoped this body had sharp teeth. When she was still Eloise, she had bitten the guard in the prison on the neck after he tried to rape her. She was like a vampire and she bit him until it drew blood. She wasn't scared to do it again even though she was bound.

Cerys expected some witty reply but all she got was silence. Strong arms carried her up. She turned to the side to see who it was. She let out a sigh of relief when she saw it was not who she expected to see. He was new to her and he didn't say anything as he took her back up the deck.

Above deck, all the sailors have gathered around. No one was taking care of the ship anymore, they just stared at her. Her eyes caught that of the little boy and he gave her a sad smile. The man who held her pushed her aggressively onto the wooden deck. She fell to her knees with a thump.

Cerys knelt under the rain, her hair and clothes quickly becoming drenched as droplets fell from the sky and soaked her. She closed her eyes and tilted her face upwards, letting the rain wash over her. The water ran down her skin and dripped off her chin, the sound of it hitting the ground and splashing around her filling the air.

"Do you like the rain so much?" She heard the captain speak.

Cerys opened her eyes and looked at him. He wasn't standing before her when she was brought to the deck but now here he was. His body was soaked, his hair sticking to his face and his shirt sticking to his body, showing off his broad chest.

"I enjoy it. Yes." Cerys said.

"Then you enjoy deep bodies of water like the sea, right?"

Cerys raised an eyebrow. "What a strange question…no, I don't."

The captain nodded. "I am just trying to make your death as comfortable as ever. Shame you don't like the sea" he spoke as if he was discussing his dinner.

Cerys' eyes widened in shock. "You wouldn't dare throw me off the deck"

The captain smirked, an evil glint in his eyes. "Oh, I will, my darling. I definitely will"

Cerys gritted her teeth in annoyance, the cold seeping into her skin. "If you kill me you wouldn't get the gold for catching me. Even if it's dead or alive, my body would be lost in the sea"

"What I am going to get is bigger than gold. It's what I call the awakening"

Cerys frowned.

The captain noticed the look of confusion on her face. He cocked his head to the side "You would not understand and you would not be alive to see the glory that will come from your sacrifice." he nodded his head at the men behind her.

They grabbed her arms and dragged her with them. Cerys struggled against her restraints, fear in her eyes as she was brought closer to the edge of the ship.

"Please don't do this. What would you gain from doing this?!"She screamed for help.

"I would gain unimaginable power. The strongest there is" he laughed at his statement.

Cerys' cries went unanswered as she was thrown into the sea. His laughter was the last thing she heard when the water consumed her. The rope weighed her down, pulling her deeper into the water as she frantically tried to free herself. She could feel the panic rising in her chest as she realized the ropes were too tight, she couldn't escape. Her struggles grew weaker as she sank deeper into the water.

When she had thought all was over, that she was about to die again, she saw black tentacles curving around her body. She was too weak to struggle, and her last oxygen was about to be exhausted.

So she closed her eyes and waited for her impending doom.
