"I'm robbing a tomb!"
Silence passed brifely in her mind before more thoughts came rushing in.
"I'm robbing a tomb at the dead of the night. I'm robbing a tomb of a guy that died almost a century ago at the dead of the night! What is wrong with me? What is wrong with you, Katya?! Why are--'
The clanks of something tumbling unto the tomb floor snapped her right out of her thoughts. She jumped, absolutely startled, pushing against the immobile filled chest of gold behind her from fear.
Small white rings of torchlight latched on her from different angles of the cave. Like a deer in headlights, she froze for them to confirm that she was alright before the white rings all disappeared, as the holders of the torches returned back to their looting.
"Dude, your girl is so clumsy." That voice was unmistakeably Billy's, always sounding like a giggle. Like he found everything funny.
If Katya wasn't so nervous about been in a place only meant for the dead, she would have had something snappy to say back to him.
Clumsy certainly wasn't her nature but being in this place was absolutely terrifying.
She hated it.
"It's her first time. Leave her alone." Someone pressed a kiss to her cheek and she tensed up, her gaze moving right instantly only to be confronted by her boyfriend's lean face and his honey brown eyes.
She sucked in a deep breath of relief.
She had to get a grip of herself already but somehow every single thing seem to send her heart racing with even more fear.
A frown crossed Juan's face as he observed the jittering of his girlfriend's shoulder that even the black leather jacket she had on couldn't hide.
"Cold?"
"I just want to get out of here already." She snapped at him, holding her torch in a death grip as she willed her legs to move in search of treasure, surprisingly, her legs obeyed.
Good thing. The sooner she helped out with this, the faster they would be able to get out of here.
"It's the first time for all us." A feminine voice said and despite the darkness, Katya knew that was Vivian. Her voice always sounded blunt, void of emotions. Vivian and her weren't really close but they tolerated each other and Katya was sure Vivian wasn't trying to be mean. "We don't always go robbing a rich skeleton's grave all the time."
"But still, that's alright. Some people can play princess while the rest of us must work our butts off! The audacity." Someone who hadn't spoken before said, his voice bouncing against the walls.
Nate.
Katya's blood boiled. "Oh, please. Shut the fu---"
"What?!"
Something tumbled loudly to the ground, maybe he had dropped his bag of gold in anger.
The torches were on her again, but this time she wasn't the only one, the torches were on Nate too. She could see the anger in his blue eyes, the scars that designed his face almost moving as he spat on the floor and rolled up his sleeves.
"Got something to say to me, pretty girl?" He closed up the distance between them real fast.
"Oh you know damn straight I do." Katya snapped, keeping her eyes on the enemy and standing her ground despite knowing that Nate was three times a better fighter than she was and if a fight were to happen between them, he would certainly knock her out within the first two blows.
The problem was that Nate had always had it against her since day one. She didn't even do anything to him and tonight if anything were to happen, she would rather die fighting than back down.
She had had enough of his annoying attitude. Really.
The next thing she heard was the corking of a gun and in a flash, she saw it pressed to the side of Nate's head.
"Will you like your head somewhere else, Nate? On the ground perhaps? Scattered and a complete mess?"
"Hot damn!" Billy whistled and Katya rolled her eyes at his reaction.
He wasn't very good with saying the right words at the right time.
Fear flashed in Nate's eyes.
They all knew Juan, he was an insane being. It took a certain level of madness to be able to lead a gang of the seven most notorious thieves and Juan, he had that madness in abundance.
"No, Boss."
"Alright then, be a good boy and get back to work."
Immediately Juan had his gun tucked away , Nate scurried back to work.
"You can just stay there and relax, babe. Don't want you stressing." He winked, before he stepped away to resume his looting.
Katya let out a shaky breath. The last time an argument like that had happened, it had ended with someone's head on the floor and it wasn't a pretty sight.
Now that her anger had died down, she was back to being afraid and wanting desperately to get out of here.
The voices of the rest as they talked about how much treasures were everywhere and how they would never have to steal again passed through her ears till it faded into a mere echo as her mind got more and more lost in thoughts.
Earlier today, Billy had gotten information about this tomb and the treasures in it but there were a lot of rumours that this place was dangerous and the people that attempted to steal from it in the past had all died a mysterious death.
Every last one of them.
Katya believed the rumours to be true and she had tried to dissuade Juan, from coming here but the rest of the gang had agreed and he himself had been ready to take on the risk. In order not to look like a coward and to impress Juan, she decided to come along with them even when he had left her an option of staying back.
But the moment the gravestone was rolled back and she had stepped into the tomb, Katya knew she had made a big mistake.
There were chests of treasures in the left and at the right of the tomb, all lining up into piles at each sides. Some of the treasures were not even in the chests.
Many of it.
Who buries someone with so much treasures?
Then at the middle of the tomb was a closed coffin and there were candles around the coffin.
Lit candles!
Absolutely occultic.
It showed that people came to this place a lot. Were they worshipping the dead? Doing something with his body? What exactly were they doing?!
None of that was her business though.
The only thing she was worried about was that they might get caught by the people always coming to light the candles, but Aniket was on the lookout and nothing bypasses him. He would alert them at the first sight of trouble, also Juan was a good gang leader and he had more than one escape plan. Then there was Susan, with her behind the wheels of their get away van, they could escape anything.
Everything was perfect.
Everything was fine.
So why was she still so damn terrified?!
