(A/N : Before anyone picks his fork and torch, this would be a weekly fanfiction until I manage to write at least fifteen chapters in advance just in case something happens and I can't post for a few days)
The woman and her two guards left me alone after we reached the same room I always walk into to be experimented on. And as always, as soon as the door opened and I walked inside, the very same annoying voice greeted me.
"Good morning, Test Subject Y. I'm glad to see you still alive after the last test. I've got to say, your desire to keep living despite being tortured for years kind of makes me feel a little bit guilty for what I'm doing, then again everything we do and accomplish down here is for the greater good of our glorious republic."
The New California Republic or wildly known as NCR is considering itself the only inheritor of pre-war values of democracy, personal liberty, and rule of law. The ones in charge of the whole republic have developed a highly expansionist culture, undertaking colonization efforts and military expeditions into neighboring regions in order to "civilize" them. Now, even though they are the reason I was raised in this hell, I don't exactly harbor any kind of hate against the NCR as a whole, after all, why would I get revenge on people that are after profit when I could use them for my own benefit? As for those white cots, … one day I will make them pay for what they had done to me and to the woman that gave birth and protected me until they killed her.
"You are quite responding today. Something on your mind?"
"Not exactly doc. Just that I remember something. So what are we going to do today? Putting me against a super mutant, a ghoul, or maybe you are planning to test some of your new vaccines on me?"
"You are lucky that woman loves you, otherwise, I would have sent a Yao guai to tear you apart for being a smart ass. Nevertheless, you are right about one thing. I'm going to test one of my latest ideas on you. So if you are so eager to finish this, please take a seat and wait for the procedure to begin. "
A second after I seated myself on that chair, a slightly bigger needle pierced my neck from under the chair before smaller and smaller needles were injecting some kind of liquid into my body. Soon the familiar pain returned followed by a new sensation unknown to me. Everything electric or mechanic in the room somehow seemed connected to me as if these machinery were part of my body.
Before I could try out this new sensation, a metal collar was put on my neck by the same machine that a second ago I could have felt. As soon as the collar was armed, this new sensation alongside its effects disappeared without a trace. Without the restraining collar, I felt complete for some reason. To be honest, whatever they did to me a few days ago in that experiment of them must have been connected to what they had injected into me today. Just before they put the collar around my neck, every single light, panel, and even all machinery in the room was somehow connected to me. If I wanted, I could have destroyed them with a single thought as if I was some sort of superhuman just like in those prewar comics. However deep inside my head, a small idea appeared, and maybe, just maybe I could have even controlled that said machinery to do my bidding.
"Would you look at that? Our first survivor, kiddo you had just changed how NCR would wage its war against those damn savages. Ah, before you do something stupid, don't even think of removing the collar, or your head will go boom. We can't have our new weapon going rogue on us, can't we?"
"Does that mean that I'm free to g…"
Before I could finish my sentence, all lights turned red, and a second later, the widow where the doctor was watching exploded, as a body flew right through it and onto the wall behind me. The man that just flew was the same man who tortured me almost every day for the past ten years or so. I slowly approached the body only to gasp in shock when half of the man's neck was missing. Whoever or whatever did this to him, killed the mad doctor way before it sent the man flying into the wall.
Something must have happened, otherwise, the lights wouldn't have become red and the doctor that seemed untouchable wouldn't have been now lying dead at my feet. Out of nowhere, I saw how my shadow was growing until it was towering over the dead body. However, only an idiot would have thought that this shadow was still his. No, I was way too familiar with the bulking mass of muscle that despite being a shadow was still notable.
I mechanically turned my head only to be meeting with the smiling face of a super mutant, one of the creatures in this facility with that I kind of bonded to some extent.
"Little 'umie wot are yer do'n ere?"
For a second a stood there frozen in both shock and fear, trying to process what the super mutant was wanting from me.
"Oi, are ya alright?"
"Ah! Yes, sir!"
"I'z not a sir,little 'umie.I'z Vito or was Vito before becom'n a miuty."
"Then, Vito what can I do for you?"
"I asked ya wot ya do'n ere?"
"The man you just killed, was experimenting on me for the past ten years or so."
"Bloody hell. Dese people aren't gunna life longa dan today. Dey even brought kids down ere."
To be honest, even after talking with the super mutant, I was kind of confused about how one of those dumb creatures could converse so well and even act as if he was a proper human rather than whatever he is right now. In all honesty, Vito as he calls himself was probably the smartest Super Mutant alive or at least one of the few since I've overheard some of the guards talking about some huge concentration of mutants one of them being here in this god-forgotten desert.
"Kiddo, someth'n on yer mind?"
"I was just curious why you would speak like this. I mean no offense, but compared to what the other mutants speak, you seemed smarter than them, and yet you speak kind of weirdly."
"An about that, it's the way some of my favorite characters speak in some of the books I read before becoming a mutant. If it's annoying just say and we can talk normally."
"Once again, I'm sorry for bringing this up, but can we talk normally? For me, it's kind of hard to understand some of your words when you speak like that."
"No problem kiddo. So what are you going to do now?"
"I don't know. I have no family left, at least I don't think I have. I don't even have a name. These people just took me from my late mother when I was a baby and raised me here to be their lab human."
"Would you grant me the honor of naming you kiddo?"
"By all means, Vito, I'd rather have another person name me than naming myself."
"Well, then kiddo. I'll name you after my late son if that's all right with you."
"Sure thing."
"Dante Castillo was his name, and from today onwards that would be yours. Therefore, what do you say we get out of this shithole and find something to do outside. The rest of the super mutants and ghouls are tearing this place apart, and let's be honest, I'd rather not be here when they are finished killing the humans since they would only tear each other apart afterward."
