The atmosphere in the conference room was tense because of the recent rogue attacks on packs in our state. We don't usually have many rogue attacks, so having three in a row made everyone nervous. General Stone put up pictures of Blaze and Declan, the rogue king, on the whiteboard in front of us.
"Sir, from my investigation, Blaze De Leon is the target of the rogues. Recently, he's been hanging out with one of them, and it seems like they are becoming close" I reported.
An attack had been made on the neighbouring pack. General Stone said that the rogues need a direct order from their Alpha to attack, but he's confused as to why they would choose to attack after being inactive for twenty-one years.
He strongly believed that there was a connection between Blaze and the rogues. I felt a little guilty because I was treating my mate like a mission but I had no choice here, many lives are at stake.
"The rogues are not that smart, they are ruthless, they would have attacked him, if he were their enemy. So, it's either he is one of them or they needed something from him and that's confusing because he is human and they rarely know of our existence" He reasoned.
"Jones, I need you to gather some people from your team to go to the Blue Moon and Dark Sky pack to investigate the rogue's attacks and I need the reports in four days, " He ordered and turned to Captain Knight.
"Knight I need you to gather some people from your team to secure the packs that were attacked and Jones, I need you to get closer to Blaze and find out why the rogues are after him because we can't just arrest the rogue and question him, they will be more alert and we might not know what they are really up to," He said, "You are dismissed, Jones, I want to have a word with you".
"Are you okay?" He asked after the others left the room.
"No sir, I don't think I want to get closer to Blaze because of a mission," I said lowering my defence and letting my emotions out.
"He-He is your mate?" He asked with surprise evident on his face and I nodded in affirmation since I could not talk because I was close to tears.
That was the first time I would be letting my guard down concerning Blaze and I'm hoping it would be the last time. The last thing I want is for me to tie him down because of a stupid mate pull.

I swallowed my tears and raised my head to meet Uncle Sam's eyes
"I don't think I will be able to get closer to him, even if I want to, I don't want it to be because of a mission. So I request you to assign somebody else to investigate him closely, don't worry I will do my job from afar and I will oversee this mission without my feelings getting in the way" I ascertained.
He held my shoulders and looked me straight in the eyes. He does not want to say but I could tell that he pitied me "For the sake that he is your mate, I hope he is not involved with the rogues. I will assign someone to watch over him at his house and in school, just make sure you get your job done and keep him safe okay".
"Thank you, Uncle," I said hugging him "I have to get back to school".
"Okay, take care"
I exited his office and assigned three people to the attacked packs, leaving them in Jack's control
I was supposed to be in class at two 'o'clock but turned up late due to my meeting.
"Why are you late?" Laura whispered and yelled at me.
"I was at a meeting " I breathed out as I tried to recover from running to class and having all the eyes on me when I opened the door. I hate coming late to class.
"You missed half of the lecture. Well, he said our assignment will be a paired project also he will pair us himself. I hope we are together" She briefed me on what happened in class before I came in.
"I hope so too," I said, pulling out the notes I needed for the class.
"You should check the note pasted on the board to know who your partners are also you can't change your partners" His voice boomed throughout the class emphasizing the last part.
"I'll go check for our names" Laura stood up and went to the front of the classroom to check. When she came back it was pretty obvious from her face that were not paired together because disappointment was written all over her face.
"I'm with some Selena Whitney" She sighed.
"We never can say, she might be a good person" I shrugged putting a small smile on my face trying to be optimistic.
"Who am I with by the way?" I questioned changing the subject
"You are in luck my friend" she said with enthusiasm as if she was not sad like a few seconds ago and judging by her sudden change of mood I already knew this would not be good.
"You are with Blaze De Leon, you know that hot guy with green eyes that contrasted his black hair. The one that looks like a Greek god...Yeah, he is the one".
"What the fuck?" I muttered with horror written on my face.
