Chapter 217 - Fury’s part of the deal -212

[Triskelion]

[With Nick Fury]

Fury watched on the monitor like a hawk. He watched as O5-6 and his two guards walked through the hallways. His finger was hovering over the button, ready to call a strike team to capture the Overseer should Fury think it was possible.

He watched as the three men entered an elevator, her hand feeling sweaty as he considered the possible scenarios. Would this be worth it? Would it even succeed? There were many possibilities of things going south.

Yet it would all be for naught, for as the elevator reached the ground floor, it was empty. He couldn't help but stand up in shock. He had seen them enter, and he knew that it hadn't stopped at any other floor.

Still, he quickly checked the cameras on all the other floors and found no shadow of the three people. Pressing the button, he quickly barked his orders. "Lock down the building, find and detain any suspicious-looking individuals!"

Yet, they found nothing; searching the entire building and checking all the footage, there was no sign of where the three people had gone. Fury even had the entire elevator taken apart to find any clues but found nothing at all.

Once again, he had been played by an Overseer; the man had vanished into thin air, and the very fact that he had shown up from the front door was little more than an insult. He was just showing Fury that he could.

"Hill, what's the result of the investigation?"

Maria Hill looked up from her tablet, her expression grim. "No trace of them, sir. It's as if they disappeared into thin air. We've reviewed all the footage and searched every inch of the building. They're gone."

Fury clenched his jaw. "And how did they get inside? They were clearly suspicious individuals and yet they were able to walk right into my office without setting off any alarms."

Hill hesitated for a moment before responding. "It appears they had full access, sir. Their credentials checked out at every security checkpoint. It's as if they were expected."

Fury's frown deepened. "Expected? By whom?"

Hill looked evermore nervous as she was prompted to continue. "By you, sir, you had a meeting scheduled with them; everything was by the books."

Fury's eyes narrowed. "I damn well would have known about any meetings, and yet I didn't, so likely we have a spy in our middle. I guess you know who?"

Hill nodded, her expression tense. "We have some leads, but nothing concrete yet. We're conducting a thorough investigation to track down whoever facilitated this breach."

Fury leaned back in his chair, his mind racing. "Double the security protocols and run a full sweep of our systems. I want every possible vulnerability identified and patched. And find out who tampered with my schedule. Whoever did this is not just a spy; they're deeply embedded."

Hill nodded. "Understood, sir. We'll get to the bottom of this."

Fury doubted they would find the spy. They had likely been pulled out already, and they would quickly find the name of whoever it was simply by checking who stopped showing up for work.

Still, Fury didn't think more about that; instead, he focused on the small thumb drive he had been given. He had bargained hard with the Overseer, and while he had to give up a lot, he had also gotten what he wanted.

He quickly pulled up a burner laptop he had Hill bring up to him. He wasn't about to connect this drive with SHIELD's servers. He wasn't that trusting.

However, it wasn't until after he had opened up the drive and stared at the list of files with a smile that he suddenly remembered something. "Motherfucker!" He cursed as he realized he had forgotten about that monster attacking someone from seeing his face.

He couldn't help but feel like a fool for forgetting something so important and cursing at that damned monster for being so troublesome. He had no real good way of dealing with it other than running everything through the facial recognition program.

He looked at the list of files and found one labeled Object-096, which he quickly decided not to read without first having it go through that problem. The rest was hopefully safe to read, and he was eager to finally get started.

For this was what he had gotten out of his deal with O5-6: a bunch of files about monsters, objects, and the Chaos Insurgency—important information that would finally allow him to no longer be in the dark about everything going on.

Sure, he was sure the information might not be entirely accurate and that many things would be missing. Yet, those were just things he could work on verifying once he had some clues to hunt down.

He opened the primary document titled "Chaos Insurgency Overview."

Chaos Insurgency Overview

Introduction: The Chaos Insurgency is a covert, paramilitary organization formed from the splintering of the Bulwark. Their goals and motives are often counter to those of the Bulwark, with a focus on harnessing anomalous objects and entities for their own gain.

History: The Chaos Insurgency was officially formed in 1924, after a major internal conflict within the Bulwark. Several high-ranking Bulwark members defected, taking with them valuable Objects and information. This splinter group became the Chaos Insurgency.

Objectives:

Acquire and weaponize Objects.Destabilize global governments and institutions.Conduct espionage and sabotage against the Bulwark and other organizations.

Leadership: The Chaos Insurgency operates under a highly secretive and hierarchical structure. Its leaders are unknown, even to most of its operatives. They are believed to use codenames and encrypted communication to maintain anonymity.

Activities:

Theft and smuggling of Objects.Assassinations and kidnappings of key personnel.Cyber warfare and intelligence gathering.Recruitment and radicalization of new members.

Known Operations:

Operation Broken Fang: Theft of Object-███ from Site-██ in 1983.Operation Black Dawn: Coordinated attacks on Bulwark facilities in 2001.

Threat Assessment:

The Chaos Insurgency poses a significant threat to global security. Their access to anomalous objects and entities, combined with their willingness to use them aggressively, makes them a formidable adversary. Continuous monitoring and counter-operations are essential to mitigate their impact.

Fury leaned back in his chair, absorbing the information. The Chaos Insurgency was far more organized and dangerous than he had anticipated. Their activities were not just limited to theft and sabotage; they were actively working to destabilize global security.

He continued to read through the file, noting the various operations and their impacts. Each operation showed a level of precision and ruthlessness that indicated a highly trained and well-funded organization.

He would have to carefully see if he could verify this information; however, the fact that this dangerous group was but a splinter group from the Bulwark only highlighted the danger and size of such an organization.

He had always known that such a secret organization wasn't good news, and now he was even more sure of that. Clearly, he needed to do something about all these groups hiding in the dark.

For now, he would work with Bulwark, take down their common enemy and then he would turn his attention onto Bulwark itself.

He opened the next file on the thumb drive, titled "Operational Protocols and Security Measures." If he was going to tackle the Chaos Insurgency, he needed to understand their inner workings, their strengths, and their weaknesses.

As he scanned through the document, Fury's expression hardened. The protocols were detailed and sophisticated, indicating a level of organization that rivaled SHIELD's own. The Chaos Insurgency's operatives were trained to operate in the shadows, using encrypted communications and false identities to avoid detection. They were experts in guerrilla tactics and cyber warfare, capable of striking quickly and disappearing without a trace.

This wasn't going to be easy, but Fury relished the challenge. SHIELD had faced down many threats in the past, and they would face down this one too. He would ensure that his agents were prepared for what was to come. Training would be intensified, new protocols would be implemented, and alliances would be strengthened.

Fury continued to scan through the files, absorbing every detail. Each document provided a deeper understanding of the chaos that the Insurgency aimed to sow and the lengths to which they would go to achieve their goals. He closed the file on the Chaos Insurgency and moved on to the other files, eager to gather more information.

The first file he opened was titled "Object-1440

Object-1440: "The Old Man from Nowhere"

Description: Object-1440 is an elderly male who causes catastrophic events and widespread destruction in his vicinity. The exact nature of his ability is unknown, but it seems to manifest as a form of uncontrollable, anomalous misfortune. Attempts to contain or even approach Object-1440 have resulted in disaster, including the destruction of entire facilities.

Containment Procedures: There are no known containment procedures that can effectively hold Object-1440. The current strategy involves constant monitoring and attempts to steer him away from populated areas.

Fury shook his head. The idea of an uncontainable being that brought ruin wherever he went was daunting. This explained the previous disasters and why the Bulwark had been so desperate to pass the burden of monitoring Object-1440 to SHIELD. It was clear that this old man was more of a force of nature than a conventional threat.

Moving on, Fury opened the file labeled "Object-096."

Object-096: "The Shy Guy"

Description: Object-096 is a humanoid entity that becomes extremely agitated and hostile whenever someone views its face, whether directly or via recording. Once its face is seen, Object-096 will enter a state of emotional distress and begin to run towards the person who viewed it, attacking and killing them upon arrival. It is capable of running at speeds exceeding 35 km/h and will continue its pursuit regardless of any obstacles.

Containment Procedures: Object-096 is to be contained in a sealed, opaque container to prevent accidental viewing of its face. No surveillance or video equipment is allowed in its containment area. Any photographs or recordings of its face are to be destroyed immediately.

Fury felt a chill run down his spine. The sheer terror and inevitability of Object-096's attacks were horrifying. The precautions SHIELD would need to take to avoid triggering this entity were immense. He made a note to develop specific containment protocols for any interactions with Object-096.

He then opened the file on "Object-610."

Object-610: "The Flesh That Hates"

Description: Object-610 is a highly aggressive and infectious disease that spreads through physical contact. Victims of Object-610 are transformed into grotesque, fleshy masses that continue to grow and spread the infection. The affected areas become uninhabitable, with the flesh consuming all available organic material.

Containment Procedures: Affected areas are to be quarantined, and any infected personnel are to be terminated immediately to prevent further spread. Extreme caution is to be exercised when dealing with Object-610 outbreaks.

Fury grimaced. An infectious disease that turned people into monstrous flesh heaps was a nightmare scenario. Quarantining infected areas and rapid response would be crucial in dealing with any outbreaks. He would have to ensure SHIELD had the necessary resources and protocols to handle such a threat.

The next file was titled "Object-3199."

Object-3199: "Humans, Refuted"

Description: Object-3199 is a species of hostile, humanoid entities capable of rapid reproduction. These creatures produce eggs at an alarming rate, with each egg hatching into a fully grown instance of Object-3199 within minutes. They are highly aggressive and will attack any human on sight.

Containment Procedures: Object-3199 instances are to be contained in a reinforced, bio-secure facility. Any eggs produced are to be immediately incinerated to prevent rapid population growth. All personnel entering containment areas must wear full biohazard suits.

These he knew something about, but still, getting some knowledge from Bulwark about them was good, he could use it to compare against what he already knew to attempt to verify some of this information.

He moved on to the file on "Object-3008."

Object-3008: "The Infinite IKEA"

Description: Object-3008 is a large retail store that contains a seemingly infinite interior space. Once inside, individuals find themselves unable to locate the exit. The interior is populated by hostile entities resembling store employees, which become aggressive during "closing hours." The store also contains a population of trapped individuals who have formed rudimentary societies to survive.

Containment Procedures: The entrance to Object-3008 is to be guarded at all times to prevent unauthorized access. Rescue missions are to be conducted to retrieve trapped individuals, but extreme caution is advised due to the hostile entities.

He knew a little about this one as well, having sent Clint and Natasha inside before, so getting more information would once again allow him to verify things, allowing him a better idea of how much of all the other information might be true.

Next, he opened the file on "Object-002."

Object-002: "The Living Room"

Description: Object-002 is a room that assimilates any organic material introduced to it, transforming it into furniture and other household items. The objects created by Object-002 retain some awareness and consciousness, often in a state of perpetual torment.

Containment Procedures: Object-002 is to be kept in a secure, sealed chamber. No organic material is to be introduced to Object-002. Regular inspections are to be conducted to ensure no breaches have occurred.

Fury's expression darkened. This was an object he had once had, and it had been stolen away from under their nose. Likely, he had lost this object to Bulwark, though how they had lost it in the first place was a mystery he needed answered.

Finally, he opened the file on "Object-096," making sure to run the images through the facial recognition software first.

This file contained a lot of information, a lot of it useful as well since it could hopefully prepare for more accidents happening in the future, or help with using the monster,
