Chapter 286 - Worsening situation -281

SCP-682's roars echoed through the forest, growing louder and more ferocious as the beast fed off the rage of the battle. Steve, Bucky, and Peggy continued their relentless assault, firing, slashing, and evading the creature's strikes, but it was clear their efforts weren't enough.

Each blow they landed seemed to do little more than anger the reptile further. With every passing second, SCP-682 seemed to grow larger, its scales hardening, its tail lashing out with increased power.

Steve wiped the sweat from his brow, eyes narrowing as the towering reptile prepared another charge. "We're leading it too close to the city," he muttered under his breath, seeing the skyline of Tokyo growing closer in the distance.

Bucky, reloading his weapon, nodded grimly. "We can't let this thing tear through a city full of people. But we're not putting a dent in it—it's barely even bleeding."

Peggy, who was already cursing herself for not calling for backup before getting involved in the fighting, couldn't help but shout back. "Well, it don't really have much of a choice, this thing isn't just an animal, we can't lead it around, it knows we don't want it to go to the city, so if we try to lead it away it won't work."

Peggy, who was already cursing herself for not calling for backup before getting involved in the fighting, couldn't help but shout back. "Well, we don't really have much of a choice, this thing isn't just an animal! We can't lead it around, it knows we don't want it going to the city. If we try to steer it away, it'll figure us out."

SCP-682, seeming to pick up on their conversation as though understanding every word, let out another deep, mocking laugh. "Humans... Always plotting. Always underestimating your enemy. Do you think you're clever enough to stop me?"

Steve grimaced. He was beginning to realize just how intelligent this thing was. Not just a beast, but a predator with intelligence and malice.

SCP-682's guttural laughter reverberated through the quarry, sending a shiver down Steve's spine. This wasn't just a mindless monster—they were dealing with something far worse, an intelligent entity that harbored a deep hatred for everything. The creature's eyes gleamed with malice, locked onto Steve as it shifted, massive claws digging into the ground.

Steve glanced at Bucky and Peggy, then took a deep breath. This fight wasn't going their way, and brute force wasn't the answer. Maybe, just maybe, there was another way to approach this. He stepped forward cautiously, lowering his shield slightly, showing that he wasn't about to attack—yet. "Wait," he called out, his voice firm but steady. "We don't need to keep doing this. We can talk."

Bucky shot Steve a quick look, unsure of his intentions but trusting him nonetheless. Peggy's hand hovered over her weapon, ready to cover them if this went south.

SCP-682's predatory gaze flickered with brief amusement before darkening again. "Talk?" it hissed, its voice dripping with contempt. "You want to talk, human? After everything you and your kind have done?"

Steve nodded, standing tall despite the tension in his body. "We don't want to fight. There's no reason for more bloodshed. We can figure this out—figure out why you hate us so much."

The creature's laugh was cold and vicious, a deep rumbling sound that sent dust scattering from the quarry walls. "You think I hate you for no reason, human?" SCP-682 sneered, lowering its massive head to stare directly into Steve's eyes. "Do you even know what you are? What your kind is?"

Steve kept his gaze steady, unflinching. "Why don't you tell me?"

SCP-682's expression twisted into something between disgust and rage. "You humans are parasites. You spread across this world, destroying everything you touch. You consume, devour, and leave nothing but ruin in your wake.

You believe yourselves to be superior, but you are nothing. You're weak, pathetic, and you cling to life like it means something." The creature growled, its tail lashing angrily. "I have seen countless species across countless worlds, but none are more repulsive than humans. You all deserve to die."

Steve felt the weight of SCP-682's hatred bearing down on him, but he didn't back down. "We're not perfect," he said slowly. "I know that. I've seen the worst humanity has to offer. But we're capable of more than just destruction. We fight for each other, we protect the innocent, we—"

"You think your self-righteousness changes anything?" SCP-682 cut him off, its voice venomous. "You fight for survival, nothing more. You justify your violence with morality, but in the end, you are no different than the monsters you claim to fight. You kill, you destroy, and you will do anything to survive. That is why I despise you. Life itself is disgusting, but humanity is the most wretched of all."

Steve gritted his teeth, refusing to let the creature's words shake him. "We're not all like that. There are people who dedicate their lives to making the world a better place. People who sacrifice themselves to protect others."

"And yet, it doesn't matter," SCP-682 said coldly. "Your kind will all die, just as all life should. You cannot escape what you are, and I will be there to make sure of it."

Steve could feel the hopelessness creeping into the situation. This wasn't an enemy that could be reasoned with. It hated all life—especially humanity—and there was no convincing it otherwise.

Realizing there was no more room for words, Steve lifted his shield once more. "Then I guess there's only one thing left to do."

SCP-682's grin widened. "Yes, human. Fight. Let me show you how pointless your existence truly is."

Without another word, Steve charged forward, shield raised high, Bucky and Peggy moving in sync beside him. The time for talking was over. They had a city to protect—and this monster wasn't going to stop until they gave it everything they had.

Japan was mostly a peaceful country, with not much crime and even less violent crime, and guns were rare around this part of the world. So when the three of them fought against a giant roaring monster like that, with bullets and explosive rounds, well it drew attention.

"We're drawing too much attention," Peggy muttered under her breath, watching as Steve and Bucky relentlessly tried to hold the monster at bay. "If the public gets involved, we're going to have more problems on our hands than just this oversized reptile."

Steve knew she was right. They couldn't let this fight spill into the city, where innocent lives would be put at risk. Yet SCP-682's relentless, adaptive nature was making it impossible to drive the creature back. It grew angrier and more powerful with each attack, seemingly feeding off their resistance.

The massive reptilian beast snarled at Steve, its glowing eyes fixed on him with nothing but pure, murderous intent. "You truly think you can defeat me, human? You fight for nothing—your kind is already doomed."

Steve stood his ground, shield raised. "You may hate life, but we don't give up. As long as I stand, I'll protect the people behind me."

SCP-682 let out a low, rumbling growl, its massive claws digging into the earth as it prepared to strike again. "Your pathetic attempts at heroism are as disgusting as the rest of your kind. All you humans do is lie to yourselves about being righteous, while you destroy everything around you."

Steve clenched his jaw, bracing himself for the next attack, but in that moment, he could feel the weight of SCP-682's hatred. This creature wasn't just mindlessly destructive—it had a reason, a vendetta against all life. And no matter what Steve said, it would never see him as anything more than an enemy.

"Steve!" Bucky's voice snapped him out of his thoughts as he fired off another round. "Less talking, more fighting!"

"Right." Steve steeled himself and rushed forward, shield in hand, prepared to once again clash with the towering monster. Whatever SCP-682's reasons, it didn't change what they had to do. The time for diplomacy had passed. Now, it was about survival—for them, and for the city behind them.

As the intense battle with SCP-682 raged on, the destructive noise began drawing the attention of nearby civilians. At first, it was just a few curious passersby, their smartphones out to capture what they assumed was some sort of filming or strange stunt.

But as the ground shook under the power of the creature's blows and the sound of gunfire echoed through the streets, more and more people began to gather.

A group of teenagers stood frozen on the edge of the forest, their eyes wide as they stared at the massive, roaring reptile locked in combat with three foreign individuals. One of them—a young man in a school uniform—gasped in awe. "Is that... some kind of movie monster?" he asked, his voice trembling.

"Are you crazy?!" another student shouted back, pulling out his phone to record the scene. "There's no way this is a movie! Look at the destruction—it's real!" His voice wavered with a mix of fear and excitement.

A small family, out for an evening walk, stopped in their tracks as the ground trembled beneath them. The father pulled his young daughter closer, trying to shield her from the sight of the massive creature, but she peeked around him with wide, terrified eyes. "Daddy... what is that?" she whispered.

"I... I don't know," he replied, his voice shaking. "We need to get out of here, now."

The crowd was growing larger, some people gasping in shock as they saw the towering SCP-682, while others murmured in confusion, unsure whether this was some elaborate public event or a real catastrophe unfolding. Even from a distance, the destruction was clear—the ground torn apart by the beast's claws, trees flattened, and debris littering the area.

Peggy noticed the increasing number of spectators and cursed under her breath. "We've got a crowd forming! Steve, we need to end this now—before more civilians get hurt!"
