From the moment Diana stepped onto this battle arena, the moment she resolved to fight this battle, she knew that she was walking into a death trap. It was not difficult to figure out why Great Sorcerer Phelan did not kill her and instead placed a lightning curse on her that night, especially after she was briefed by August on Damien's findings as well as evidence he had obtained himself through his secret means. It did not surprise her but it was still sad to realize she had been right all along.
The Great Sorcerer wanted her dead. She was his next target for his sacrifice.
She knew she could have forfeited the battle and escaped this fate prepared for her, but she did not choose to do that.
