*Lauren*
I tapped my foot impatiently against the sterile, cold floor of the OBGYN's office, my gaze flicking to my watch every few seconds. The office that was usually on time was running behind schedule today, and a knot of anxiety tightened in my stomach with each passing minute. I was very aware that my absence at the resort would not go unnoticed by Lucas for much longer.
Dammit. I had hoped to get back before he’d realized I was gone. I hated lying to him.
"Lauren Radcliff Astor?" The nurse finally called out, breaking through the hum of hushed conversations and the rustling of outdated magazines.
"Here," I said, rising quickly, smoothing down my dress as if it could hide my growing belly from the many eyes surrounding me. Well, it probably could. I was barely showing. My current bump could easily have passed for a small food baby.
