It was always easier being at the office when I knew Shelby was having a good time. She was at the spa with her friends, and with everything she’d been going through with the whole pregnancy issue, I knew that would put her in a good mood.
Mine, however, was instantly soured when the intercom rang and my assistant announced that two FBI officers were at the lobby, asking for me.
It had been so long since I’d even thought about everything that happened with Blaine that I immediately hated them for bringing the memory up with their presence. So much of that fiasco could’ve been prevented if they had done their jobs and communicated well.
I thought of not letting them in for a second, but then I thought it would just be better to get this over with. If I refused to see them, it could get worse.
They could be very persistent when they wanted to be.
“Let them in,” I said to my assistant and tried to relax in my chair.
