Chapter 1 - the flaws in religion

Is religion causing more harm than good? Now, bear with me, what is religion but a source of guidance and comfort, a basis on which to build our morality? Indeed, it has been, for millennia, one of the driving forces pushing for peace and prosperity in the world, Yet there has always been conflict between the parties involved, People using religion as an excuse to discriminate and hurt one another, countless lives in the name of their religion had been taken. such events include the crusades, witch trials and the stoning of sinners to death Without a fair trial, nor a hint of doubt. In the twentieth century, it is no different, we face similar problems despite having so much time to have improved.

Sure, religion has been a guiding light to a lot of people, it has resulted in people treating each other nicely. But it starts to do harm, when you begin to twist the words of the religion to fit your belief of the world just to hate people. Examples of this are how conservatives are against the LGBT, how some christians use the bible as the reason they do terrible things, being used to justify their otherwise sinful behavior. what good the religion does is bent back and slowed down by those who twist it to fit their terrible views.

So, if religion can be twisted in such a way that causes so much suffering, and unnecessary conflict, then, it can be said that religion itself can be replaced with a sense of duty and morality. ofcourse , there will be those who would argue that the religion keeps them from committing any crime or that religion is more than just being a good person, but if a man needs to be told by god, or have the threat of damnation looming over him for man to act accordingly, is he really a good person?
