Chapter 12 - It Isn't Dead!

"Aura sword arts, third form, light beam."

The moment those words left his lips, he hurled his sword forward.

It traveled in a straight golden beam at an eye-breaking speed, and before the abyssal could realize what was happening, the sword went right through its head.

The force of this attack was so great that even after the sword had gone through it, it was blown into a destroyed building by the resultant force.

This building and eight more were destroyed by the sword and completely came to a halt after the ninth building.

"Oops!" Ray said with an innocent expression while scratching the back of his head.

"That was an overkill. I hope they weren't people in those buildings, I don't want anyone screaming into my ears."

He began to walk towards where the abyssal lay lifeless. Everyone was astonished at the destructive power as it wasn't something they usually saw.

A woman suddenly busted out of the crowd with tears in her eyes, running towards a building that Ray recognized to be the one he had sent the girls to.

He was a little suspicious, but with the way she was moving and the look on her face, he figured that she must have left someone or something behind.

This woman was the mother of the boy who had been left in the house and was currently with the girls.

When the abyssal appeared, the woman who was the mother of four children, tried to evacuate with the four of them, and they successfully came out together.

She carried her youngest child who was only three, in her bosom with her right hand wrapped around him while using her left hand to hold her six-year-old daughter.

She believed her older children who were her thirteen-year-old daughter, and ten-year-old son were right beside her.

Unknown to her that her older son had gotten frightened when he saw the abyssal and ran back into the house.

She had realized his absence only when she had gotten to a safer place. She felt her heart-shattering at the thought of her son dying.

But her younger daughter had told her that he ran into the house. She wanted to go back for him but was stopped by some people who told her that it was too risky.

The urge to shove them aside and go pick up her son increased every time the abyssal got closer to the house.

She felt a little relieved when Ray arrived, but didn't know what to think when Ray sent the two girls into her house. But at least, he might have felt a little better with company.

She became struck with terror when she saw the abyssal, charging towards her house and she didn't know what to do.

When she saw the casual look on Ray's face, she almost began throwing insults and running in herself.

She couldn't help but immediately run in when he suddenly performed a powerful attack that claimed the life of the abyssal or so she thought.

A frown appeared on Ray's face as he noticed something.

Abyssals change into dust when they are killed, and it doesn't usually take this long, which meant only one thing, it wasn't dead yet.

This confused Ray as they didn't normally survive injuries of this sort.

Ray stared at the woman who was passing the area where the abyssal lay in pity.

"Poor woman."

The abyssal, who had a large hole in his head leaped towards the woman with madness in his eyes.

The woman, whose eyes widened in terror, watched as the abyssal raised its mighty arm to claim her life.

The crowd also couldn't believe what was happening, and when all hope seemed lost, an almost invisible attack went through another area of the abyssal's head, sending its brain matter everywhere.

A large gush of wind spread across the area, blowing some people's caps and hats away and also making some of the ladies' faces turn red in embarrassment as their skirts were blown upwards revealing their undies which no pervert dared to miss.

Everyone's gaze shifted to the source of this attack which came from above with different expressions. Some with annoyance and anger, while others with gratefulness and respect.

They could see a figure floating high in the air and it was too far to be recognized.

"That guy really knows his stuff," A man voiced out, causing angry gazes to focus on him.

Ray was also staring at this figure and although he wasn't sure who it was, he had his guess.

He looked back at the woman, who was expressionless due to shock as she watched the creature who was just a second away from claiming her life turn into dust, being blown away by the wind.

Ray walked casually until he got close to her.

"I hope you learned something today. Don't go running into a fight scene like that, especially if the abyssal hasn't faded away."

Leaving his words with her, he walked towards his sword to retrieve it, and after, went into the building where the girls were.

He had also learned something, that some abyssals had some sort of ability that stopped them from dying immediately. He had let his guard down.

"Come out," he voiced out and after some time, footsteps were heard as three people walked out from the house.

Ray realized and understood why she did what she did. He would have felt a little bad if she had died.

He looked at her and back to the 10-year-old boy. "Go meet your mommy. She was worried sick about you."

The boy nodded with tears in his eyes before suddenly hugging Ray.

"Thank you for saving us, sir."

Ray stood still with a complicated expression on his face. He couldn't approve of the boy's feelings, as he hadn't come with the purpose of saving everyone, and could have left them to die if not for the plea of the woman.

The boy broke the hug and cleaned his tear, before running to his mother.

Ray watched him leave and reunite with his mother with a big hug as they both began crying before being joined by his other siblings.

Ray brought his attention to the blonde-haired girl.

"Come with me. Your mom's worried."

He took his sheath from her hand and slid his sword into it before beginning to walk away.

"Did he just ask me to come with him?" She couldn't believe her ears.

'Wait, he said my mom is worried. Did he meet her on his way here or do they know each other?' Thoughts ran through her head before realizing that he had created quite some distance.

Without wasting any more time, she ran towards him but stopped when she noticed that her friend wasn't coming along.

"Jane, what do you think you're doing?" She asked in a hurry.

Jane smiled wryly, "He only asked for you to come."

She looked at her friend as though she had said the most absurd thing that she had heard in her life.

"Are you crazy? What do you mean by that? You're my best friend. No, my sister. Wherever I go, you go and wherever you go, I go. Now, come on, he's a fast walker."

Jane ran towards her best friend. No, sister, and gave her a big hug.

"I love you, Sophia."

"Come on, you don't have to be so emotional," Sofia said with a smile also hugging Jane.

"Now let's go, he's waiting," they realized themselves, before running towards him. All smiles.

Ray's mouth twitched in annoyance. He had noticed she wasn't behind him and turned around to see them... bonding, while he was trying to return her to her mom, take his belongings and report to work as quickly as possible.

He could imagine the kind of face she must be making right now.

He had checked earlier for the person who had killed the abyssal, but he or she was long gone. He would have to make confirmations later.

"Hey!" A voice came from the crowd.

Ray heard this but didn't imagine himself as the person being referred to.

"I'm talking to you! You good for nothing sentry." The voice was even closer this time.

He turned around to see a fat man with a large belly walking towards him with rage in his eyes

"You useless piece of shit! Why did you arrive late, huh? Do you know what I've lost because of your irresponsibility!"

It turns out that this fat man was the owner of the car which the girls hid behind.

After the car was slammed away by the abyssal, it crashed into a building with an explosion which indicated that there was fuel inside.

This meant that the owner of the car which was this man was a very wealthy person, and by the way, he talked, it seemed like there was something very important in it.

Ray ignored him looking back at the direction of the incoming girls who had frowns on their faces seeing what was happening.

"How dare you! Who do you think you are to turn your back on me? Do you know who I am!" He bellowed, but Ray didn't even spare him another glance with the same casual look on his face.

This caused his fury to skyrocket. "Do you think you are a hero? You are just a foolish little bastard!"

Something snapped in Ray when he heard this.
