Chapter 25 - A visit to the past

"If you find your true love, would you leave Asim and face the consequences?" Cairo asked her and she smirked.

"Of course I will. As in, if you're living like me, you'll look for a way to be set free no matter the price you will have to pay." Kissa rolled her eyes.

"Have you found him yet?" Cairo asked and Kissa went silent for a few minutes before shaking her head negatively.

"No. It sort of takes a while. Normally it's during the Sorceress eighteenth year she finds out. I guess I haven't reached the stage yet."

"How exactly did Asim get hold of you? You clearly weren't born here right?" Cairo asked and Kissa nodded affirmatively.

"When I was ten, Asim conquered our village and extended his kingdom there because we had one big village. That's how I was taken."

Kissa walked to Cairo and held his hand. The eye of Horus and the eye of Ra around her eyes shone brightly.

In a village, different children ran here and there under the bright moonlight.

Everyone was sitting outside their mud houses talking to neighbors and friends, making the whole neighborhood friendly and lively.

No one would every think something would go wrong in a peaceful and loving village like that

A ten year old walked out of one of the houses with a blanket with her.

She sat before the young woman sitting in front of the house enjoying the fresh breeze.

"Aunt." She called and the young woman looked at her.

"Yes Kissa?" She raised her brows.

"Is today the perfect day to tell me that story you've been wanting to tell me?" Little Kissa asked with curiousity in her voice and eyes.

"What if I told you it isn't the right day yet?" Her aunt smiled sweetly.

"Then I'll cry. You've been postponing it for months now. If not years." Little Kissa pouted and her aunt pinched her cheeks.

"Alright sweetheart, I'll tell you." Her aunt smiled as she lifted her in a sitting position. "If you sleep, I won't tell you ever again." She threatened and little Kissa nodded.

"So long ago, ladies were blessed with powers. They are called Sorceresses. There was no male at all. They are all females."

"Each sorceress has the ability to see visions. If lucky, they get additional powers. Most of these Sorceresses were gifted with additional powers."

"Some can control snakes, some can heal, some can affect the weather and other powers. So I want to tell you about the last Sorceress there is."

"What powers does she have?" Little Kissa cut her aunt's story.

"She had her vision and she could also manipulate air." Her aunt explained.

"This sorceress was forbidden to love like other sorceresses since the beginning of time. They are about a thousand of them but one only come after the other is dead."

"So, the last Sorceress was a temple lady and she turned out to be a sorceress. She was taken in by the king and they fell in love as time went by."

"The king's most trusted man, Asim also was in love with her but she rejected him. So he built his own arm of secret rebels right under the king's nose."

"When they were powerful enough, they killed the king after making him write that he was handing the kingdom over to Asim."

"By then, the last Sorceress had a newborn daughter and she hid her child away from Asim whose plan was to kill the whole bloodline which he successfully did."

"But he didn't find that daughter till today. No one did." Her aunt narrated and Little Kissa's eyes shimmered in excitement.

"Wow, epic. One day, she'll be found and I hope Asim would be dead by then." Littles kissa said and her aunt smiled before kissing her forehead.

"She is the last bloodline left and if something happens to her, who knows what will happen to everyone." Her aunt sighed.

"What do you mean?" Little Kissa asked.

"The royal bloodline has a secret…" Her aunt then stopped before taking a deep breath. "It's bedtime already Kissa."

"What!!!??? You haven't even finished the story yet." Kissa pouted.

"Another day Kissa, another day."

That another day never came because that night when everyone was peacefully asleep, Asim and his men waged war against the village.

The whole village was on fire, people were running from here to there crying for help as they were slaughtered by any guard of Asim they ran into.

The buildings were collapsing on those who were hiding in the house.

Kissa's Aunt hurriedly picked some things in a bag and gave it to Kissa.

"Here baby, take this locket. Don't you ever lose it. It belonged to your mother before she died while giving birth to you and she wanted me to give it to you."

"Promise me you'll keep it safe Kissa."

"I promise." Kissa nodded and they ran out of the almost collapsing building.

"This way. Run."

They both ran but soon they were trapped. Her aunt hid her in a corner she was sure the fire couldn't reach and if she stayed quiet, she wouldn't be caught.

"Stay here till I come back and don't forget your promi…" Before she could finish, four arrows pierced through her.

Kissa screamed as she saw her aunt's dead body on the floor.

"No." She screamed as she knelt next to her. "Don't leave me. You just told me you'll come back."

Tears streamed down her eyes as she held her aunt tight, not minding the guard heading towards her to kill her.

"Halt." Asim's voice echoed and the sword was just a few inches away from her.

"Bring me the little girl."
