Chapter 47 - Chapter 15 - Malia (1)

I'm with my mom in the hospital for one of her check-ups this month. Because of her special case, she's advised to have check-ups often. While it's expensive, I can't complain because it's for her own safety. If we want her to get better, we have no choice. So far, there has been no tumor regrowth and the doctor says it's looking positive that my mother is responding well to the treatment. However, we should continue to take precautions and her medications just to be on the safe side.

While we're waiting to be cleared to go home, my mother and I sit in the lobby of the hospital, looking over the tall window to our right that overlooks the Brooklyn neighborhood. I've grown very familiar with this place from the constant visits over the past several months. The antiseptic smell is something I've gotten used to, and I have favorite spots here now like this bench that's facing the window.
