In fact, he knew this master could crush him and others if this conversation was done in the outer world. But here, that master got nothing to do unless he'd risk descending here himself.
If he did, he was going to suffer great backlash, and wouldn't enjoy his current strength. If the master was indeed quite serious, he'd have landed here before even saying a single word. But it felt like he was worrying about something, and William could easily guess it.
