The air practically boiling.
Stepping past an invisible barrier, Mors quickly backed up, feeling the heat.
Looking out, Mors could see all the furnaces spewing tons of flames out of them, with metallic containers over them that lead into pipes in the ground.
Thinking about how much must have happened, Mors asked, "Is it hot enough to just put it in the room?"
Afiero, who couldn't feel the heat anymore, saw Mors's reaction and said, "Why not try. Wait till the blend turns blue. That's when it's done."
Taking the mush bowl out and placing it on the floor, Mors felt like his hand was on fire.
Quickly he retracted his hand and started to stare at the bowl. Mors waited and watched.
Would it work? Would it not? Mor's curiosity wanted to know the answer, and his body hoped that it worked.
And thankfully, after a few seconds, blue spots appeared a crossed the mush. Dotting it like a mold, except this one isn't fuzzy and isn't grey.
The electric blue spots expanded after a few minutes, and in only 10 minutes, the entire bowl was filled with electric blue dry mush.
Quickly picking it out, Mors found it bone try, and Afiero congratulated Mors on his successful brewing.
Happy with it, Mors decided to return to Malle's room to grab his stuff and leave.
Walking there, he asked that Spir came out and check for the magic person, and after a few minutes, he gave Mors some great news about the magic person leaving or dying.
Mors did feel a little bad, but considering how magic was unheard of, the person knowing Mors saw it. They would have killed him.
It scared him. He thought he was ready for death and could accept it at most times, but this even seemed to make him doubt that readiness.
Was it just coping? Why did he lie to himself?
He didn't remember, but he didn't want to figure it out.
Walking towards the door, Mors tried to find Malle or Ator, but they seemed to be busy preparing people.
Not wanting to bother them, Mors decided to just give the herb mush to Alice and get some rest, as his body was telling him to just sleep.
Walking out of the building unnoticed, he quietly jogged back to the apartment, taking a look at the night sky. It was beautiful and much more vibrant compared to before.
Arriving at the house now, after cooling down his mind, Mors quickly unlocked the door and went in.
Taking a moment to decide if he should wake up Alice or just wait, he decided that Alice wouldn't mind waiting till the morning. She was still asleep, and that was good.
Quietly, with the help of Spir, Mors continued his mission as he tip-toed towards the shower, trying his best to not make a squeak.
Quietly, he at least succeeded with the last part of his mission. After he showered with his clothes on, he quickly dried himself off and went to bed.
He did feel weird about sleeping in Genn's original bed, but tonight was the first night that he didn't feel weird, as he immediately passed out on the bed.
...
Feeling the evil light of day reach him, Mors awoke.
Not remembering himself or why he existed for a moment, Mors slowly got up and remembered.
Quickly he looked over towards Alice's bed only to find it empty.
Hoping out of bed with his sore body, Mors quickly walked into the kitchen. He found Alice, Genn, Spir, and Afiero hanging out as they talked.
Seeing Genn looking embarrassed, Mors's guessed it was more childhood stories as he felt like hearing some stories.
Walking closer, everyone quickly exchanged pleasantries before Alice decided to wrap up the story.
Hearing the second half didn't really make sense, but the others seemed amused by it, so he might have to ask later.
Coming to a conclusion, Alice decided to ask, "When do we leave today?"
Hearing that, Mors's also wanted to know. He would answer Alice, but he wasn't really an adventurer, so he didn't know the best time.
With both Alice and Mors waiting for an answer, the three ghosts looked at each other before Genn responded, "When you want to."
Hearing that, Mors wanted to laugh. A thought ran through his head, 'So no one knows the best time to travel in the day... I always wondered....'
But shaking his head, Mors said, "Why don't we leave when everything is packed?"
"Sure," Alice replied, as she didn't really care when she left, as long as it wasn't during the horde.
The duo then spent around ten minutes packing up a few more things and blocking off stuff so it would be harder to steal if someone got in.
If there wasn't a horde, the duo could return, but they also have to prep the place for monsters, just in case.
With all the preparations, the duo quickly left the apartment in the bright 3pm light. They slowly went towards the farmer's market to grab a few bits of food.
Heading down, the town was in a commotion, as people could be seen running around.
Some were carrying colorful bottles, and some were carrying random weapons.
Shops were starting to reinforce structures with the intent of keeping monsters out.
With everyone running around, Mors felt happy that people did actually trust the Enchanters.
'Maybe everyone will be able to survive the horde,' Mors thought in his mind, but he knew that that wouldn't really happen as someone would die no matter what. But it was a nice thought.
Walking alone in the chaos, as people either seemed to not believe the Enchanters or some deathly believed them. Though it seems that the businesses didn't want to risk it.
Eventually, they reached the Farmers market, and they were quickly selling stuff to a large amount of panicking people.
Quickly grabbing some food and some more seeds for fun, the duo returned to the main circle, walking through the various lines of elements. They looked around one last time.
For Alice, it was her home, where she grew up with her brother, living with their mother before her unfortunate passing.
For Mors, he had lived in the graveyard for as long as he had known. He didn't know much about his other family members, but his father was a gravedigger too.
From his father, he heard that the family had many gravediggers, and they were all around the kingdom. But he was also told not to contact them at any cost.
So he didn't, as he tended to the graveyard here in town. Well, technically, the Hero's Cemetery and not the general graveyard.
Looking around one more time, they both headed out, with a few bags full of food, towards the main entrance of the town.
...
Reaching the front of the town, Mors noticed that the running track had gotten smaller and buildings on the side had changed shapes into cannons.
He had never been in the town when there was a reported monster horde. So he never got to see the cannons before.
Glowing with circles around them, their barrels were aimed above the wall towards the forest outside.
Finding them interesting, Mors decided if the town survived, he would ask Malle or another enchanter about the cannons.
Walking out the gates as weirdly they weren't shut, the duo, surrounded by the ghosts, traveled out towards the cemetery.
On the way, Mors decided to start talking to fill the air, "So, did the medicine work well?"
Becoming surprised by this, Alice replied, "Yes, it worked quite well. I feel good enough to run around the city, but I know that running around would probably kill me."
Silence returned for a bit as Mors couldn't figure out how to continue to converse.
His social skills were a little bit... lacking?
He usually stayed in the graveyard and only came out to get seeds and some plants, so besides the monthly deliveries, he didn't really talk to others.
He wasn't exactly lonely. Others probably would be annoyed by him. So he never really talked to the locals around the town unless he needed to.
While thinking of something to say, Alice said, "So what is your cemetery like?"
Realizing that she might not have been, Mors quickly started to tell her all about the cemetery.
Like the Red bark trees and the cooling breeze, the flowers scattered around, and the peace it brings.
He excitedly explained his pride and joy, all the hard work he brings in. And when he checked to see if she was listening, he found her looking curious.
After about five minutes, and Mors stopped explaining the place, Alice replied saying, "I can't wait to see it. It sounds like a lovely place. But what about the contaminated blood?"
"Contaminated blood?" Mors asked with confusion. He had never heard about it.
Looking at Mors, confused by his confusion, Alice said, "You know about the contaminated blood of the adventures, right?"
