Chapter 29 - Mini-Malle

Coming closer to the crystal, he could feel a slight pulling force still there, so Spir prepared himself to run.

Even without his recent experience with this enchantment, his assassination career told him even weak enchantments could be deadly.

People are very creative in the study of making things deadlier.

Opening his ghostly senses to their maxes, Spir listened to all the chatter while focusing on the person closest to the crystal.

Muttering, staring at a disk in his hand, the man whispered, "... maybe an external source. I got to go report this," before running off.

'Why are all of these people so useless,' thought Spir, deciding to leave the crystal before he rages.

Moving away from the crystal, Spir and Genn had no clue what they started... and how much chaos the town had faced since the ghosts came with Mors...

The exciting part would reveal itself soon, in a week.

---------------

Waking up from his nap, Mors quickly practiced hide and seek with Alice before showering and cooking dinner.

It was more of a simple dinner, but it was still tasty. Just some grilled cleaned monster meat, and with a small collection of sweet berries.

Mors created it quite a few times in his cemetery hut, at least when he had the chance to...

Then both Alice and Mors went to bed to get some sleep. Because even with the sun on the horizon, they were exhausted.

And they both had a normal sleep schedule.

Waking up the next day, Mors quietly got up and started to get ready for the day.

From dinner last night, Mors learned that he had learned a lot about Genn from Alice, including baby stories and embarrassing details.

Like how Genn is the worst person to share a bed with his nighttime kicks and blanket stealing. Which is why the brother-sister duo had two well-separated beds.

Anyway, he quickly stretched to get rid of morning soreness and ate another fruit breakfast.

He really liked fruits in the morning. Such a sweet treat.

After having an Avania, he grabbed the key at the door, and quickly exited the apartment to get a little running in.

Since he went to bed so early last night, compared to normal, he was not surprised to see the sun not even up.

So with a quick two-hour run and helping out at the farmers market, he passed the time until the sun rose.

So excited to try learning about enchanting, he quickly arrived at the enchanting building and entered through the front this time.

Pulling out the enchanted tag and walked to up to the wall. And in response, Mors watched in excitement as the wall folded open.

After quickly decontaminating and walking in, Mors quickly walked into the empty waiting room.

It was somewhat creepy with how quiet it was.

There were no metal 'clangs,' or talking, or really anything.

Thankfully to the rescue, Mors felt one of the ghosts exiting him as Afiero appeared.

As he appeared in his human form, he quickly said, "is it ok if I watch?"

"Sure, but why?" questioned Mors as his curiosity boiled. Running for two hours brought him enough boredom, anything is interesting.

Laughing, Afiero replied, "Because! and what's with that face? Enchantments are interesting and there is no need for a good reason to learn enchantment."

Mors, walking towards the hallway door, laughed. It appears that Afiero and Mors had something in common, as they both found enchantments amazing.

Afiero then turned more transparent as he said, "Best of luck with your lesson!"

Traveling down the hallway, Mors looked around, trying to find some of the symbols from that golden enchantment.

And as he took a close look at the wall, Mors couldn't find the symbols... but he could see hundreds of scratches all along it.

Across the floors, scouring the walls, decorating the crevasses of the ceiling, everywhere.

Mors, staring deeply into these scratches, could feel a suppressing force leaking from them.

Fascinated with this suppression, Mors decided to stare at as many scratches as he traveled down the hall.

The idea of learning this enchantment didn't even cross his mind, it's just that he never felt this force before, and it was weird.

Anyway, after finally reaching his destination, Mors quickly knocked on Malle's door.

*BOOOM*

After a minuscule noise from inside the room and a few more seconds of waiting, the door opened to reveal a worrying amount of gray fog.

From the gray fog came a few burdensome coughs, and sounds of movement, as someone appeared.

Seeing the person, Mors was confused. It was Malle, but he was small.

Instead of his usual giant size, he looked like a normal person, with a lot of extra muscle and oversized clothes.

Before Mors could come over his confusion as he tried to understand, Mini-Malle said, "Come in, don't mind the fog," as he vanished into the fog.

"Wai-, what?" stuttered Mors as he tried his best to swallow his confusion as he walked into the room.

Fog slowly cleared as Mors entered the room. He could barely see, and he could hardly breathe with the fog.

Moving toward the table, since he knew where it was approximately located, Mors felt more strange feelings around him.

Some sort of pushing force on him, a burning sensation, and maybe even a disorientating feeling.

He couldn't identify where it was coming from, and the feelings weren't as strong, it even made him question if it was really there.

'Enchantments, maybe?' Mors thought as he found the table that appeared in front of him.

Grabbing a chair, Mors sat down and waited for either Mini-Malle to appear, or for the fog to disappear.

Waiting, Mors could feel Afiero looking around the room, before appearing in front of Mors, saying "There are a lot of symbols all around the room. Be wary."

After about a minute, the fog cleared up, and Mors could see the enchantments, and Mini-Malle.

Mini-Malle, finding Mors at the table, quickly said, "Welcome to your first lesson on Enchantments! to begin everything, you first have to pick a discipline."

Seeing the confusion on Mors's face, Malle decided to clarify, "you have to pick a type of enchantment you want to learn, since the three types are very different. Also don't mind my size; I had an accident with one of the Enchantments."

Continuing on his roll, Malle explained, "Civil enchantments are the ones you saw before, War enchantments are large powerful enchantments, and Weaponchants are enchantments on weapons and tools. All of them had different ways of working."

After Malle's barrage of information, Mors took a moment to take it in. First off, he became slightly concerned hearing how Malle had an accident that caused his transformation. That meant there could be an unintended side effect.

Then he quickly figured out that whatever that golden enchantment that he saw in the hallway before was probably a War enchantment, seeing how big and powerful it was.

Then looking over to the table behind Malle and seeing some enchantments... None of them were like the crystal.

Trying to get more information, Mors asked, "Can you explain them some more?"

"Sure, Civil enchantments are a newer type of enchanting. It is small and easiest to customize, but it's not powerful. War enchantments are large and powerful, our ancestors used it to fight off monster hordes, but it's hard to customize the output."

Taking a breath, Malle took a second before continuing, "Finally, Weaponchants are unique... Its structure doesn't exist inside of circles and arcs... its usually linear along a tool or blade. It's a weird one, and you need really good hands as the symbols are really small."

"Interesting," Mors muttered as he heard about the different types. He had a feeling like Malle wasn't good at Weaponchants with his unconfident answer.

He had never seen these Weaponchants, but it would explain the forges downstairs. This place must create a lot of Weaponchant weapons, since it is super useful in adventuring.

With this explanation, Mors figured out what he wanted to pick, but asked one final question, "I heard you say your size is related to an accident, what happened?"

"Ah, good question! Sometimes if you make a mistake with an enchantment of any kind, you get an... unintended side effect," explained Malle as Mors mentally noted this down.

Continuing, Malle explained, "for me, I failed a civil enchantment, but don't worry, since it is so weak, the effect goes away."

Looking around, Mors tried to find some sort of signs of failure. In a corner with the forge, he found a mess of red liquid with some blackened soot around it.

It was small, and it was like a red slime that slowly seemed to get smaller, with a thin red smoke reaching out to Malle.

Interested, Mors stood up and walked over to it. Malle watched Mors saying, "It should be safe, I think. Just don't touch it."

Looking over it, Mors considered some more before finally saying, "I decided to try..."
