Chapter 7 - Balance In Darkness

I woke up from my nap to see someone put food and something drunk in my cell. I picked up the plate of food and noticed it was cold. I concentrated on my hand and heated the food right after I did this. I heard the sound of tiny feet running away from me. I thought nothing of it as I ate what was given. Then, I drank the water and set it close to the jail bars. I sit back on the wooden bed leaning against the wall, looking at everything, seeing how well-crafted the woodwork on everything was. Then I started to think about how I was going to explain everyone to the elves and hope they believed what I said. I hear footsteps, but they faint almost non-existent. This person trained hard for years. If it wasn't for the power the goddess gave me, I would have never heard it coming. The footsteps got closer and closer, then stopped, and I said, "Is it time for my interrogation?" I turned to look at who it was, and to my surprise, it was the same elf girl who knocked me out. Two other male elves followed behind her. They were tall with golden hair and looked at me with disgust. They were thin, but you could tell that they were muscular, definitely warriors of the elf tribe.

The female walked up saying that was the first time humans had been able to hear any elf walking. I am not a normal human being, I said. The female opened the cell door. The two soldier elves walked to me and lifted me by the arms aggressively. That's when the female said the council has gathered to judge and sentence you for coming into our territory. As the soldiers push me out of the cell door, I catch myself and follow the female with the two soldiers right behind me. To my surprise, the jailhouse was a part of the tree with a spiral staircase leading to the ground. Houses were on the ground, not too compact, but enough to know a few hundred elves were living there. I follow the elf on the trail, leading to a big palace at the end, probably where I'm gonna end up. I noticed as I was walking past that they were staring at me some with fear others with hate.

Finally got to the palace doors, and I noticed eight more soldiers standing in front of the doors. The female elf whispered some chant at that specific time I felt my body pulse and throb. I could feel my brain splitting from the pain. I screamed loud, and the soldiers reacted like honey bees when a wasp tries to invade a hive. They swarmed me, pinning me down to make sure I didn't hurt anyone. The pain faded pretty quickly. The female looked at me confused. She looks back at the soldiers and asks what happened. My eyes widened because I noticed that she didn't use the same language to talk to me, but I understood what she had said. I look at the female and tell her I'm fine. Let's keep moving. as we pass through the door, I notice 12 elves standing in a crescent moon formation. Some even look puzzled at the fact that they just saw me pinned down and screaming. I also noticed that I was just in a courtyard, and then the shadow asks telepathically if I am okay. I told Shadow that they took me to the palace courtyard and not to worry. I'll call you when I need you. Just be ready and don't kill anyone. The council starts talking among themselves, and then eldest looking, one takes the initiative to say my name's Urik head of the council. Now who are you and where are you from? I stand straight with the best serious poker face I can muster and say my name is Draven Longsword, son of Axel Longsword, and I came from outside the forest to run from the kingdom and the church. Uriks' eyebrows furrowed and said, "Why should a noble of the human kingdom run from his country and the church?" My father did his best to hide me from the church and other noble lords because my eyes were black." The elders started talking amongst themselves, thinking u couldn't understand what they were saying or hear it. The elders to the right of the Urik were just saying that they were just wasting their own time. The elders on the left were gossiping about the prophecy that was told to them as children. I Interrupt with a statement the prophecy is real and I'm not here to waste your time. I was sent by the goddess of darkness to help you and receive help in return for I am the goddess's apostle. I call shadow to come to me at this time to show I can tame monsters of darkness. Shadow darts through the village running as quickly as possible digging his claws into the dirt with each step. The elders are taken aback by the sudden exclamation and confused that a human knows their language. Shadow jumps on the roof and jumps over the palace gate into the courtyard and lands right beside me and stands in a defensive position. The guards gather around the elders to protect the oldest and the eldest looked at me with eyes of concern. The elders talk to each other till the oldest raised his hand to stop to quiet the council and says to me if you are who you say you are then you would need to pass the trial that has long been foretold to us from elder to elder. The goddess's chosen one has to prove himself in the trial by combat and by the power given by the goddess if you pass the trial then not only will we help you we will follow through with the traditions along with it. At this time the female elf that knocked me out runs up and says no why does he get to do the trial I wanted to do the trial how can a weak human be her chosen? The elder gets agitated and says silence Areya the goddess will is her own we don't question her. We can give him a trial if he survives then he is the chosen if he dies one less human to worry about. Areya turned around and gave me a face of pure anger and regret. Then says okay back to your cell we will call you when it's time for the trial. Shadow stays by my side growling at any elf that gets too close to me or him as I leave the palace to go back into the cell. Without any care, I fall asleep for the night.
