Amalia's POV
"I'm bored..." Riley sighed, huffing as she dropped down into the seat on the couch next to me. She grabbed a nearby cushion and hugged it to her chest, bringing her legs up to cross them.
"I know..." My hands rested on my stomach, my feet hanging over the back of the couch since I was laid upside down. "Me too."
Despite it being the weekend, my parents were both at work, my sister, Yuna, was out shopping with her friends and my little brother, Tao, was at a birthday party; that left Riley and I home alone with almost nothing to do. It had basically always been just the two of us, having each other's back since we were five, so whatever the rest of the juniors were getting up to on their time off hardly ever involved us. I didn't mind it.
As I shuffled around to sit up straight, Riley reached for the remote and switched on the TV, flicking through the channels until she came to Audio Fuse. It played music almost twenty-four hours a day, and allowed new musicians to make their debut and be introduced to the world; moments after landing on the channel, one of these segments started.
"Today on Audio Fuse, we are covering the emerging career of Taemin Seong, a sixteen-year-old Korean pop star whose debut song, 'Ambience', has been steadily rising the charts since its release last week."
Images of who I could only assume was Taemin appeared on screen, along with clips of him on the street and at events having hundreds of pictures snapped by paparazzi. He seemed to be decently tall — around 5'10 — with messy chocolate locks falling just above his matching eyes. Being surrounded by people didn't seem to bother him, though his smile, as genuine as it was, felt it had an air of mystery. Regardless, to me, he seemed like just another soon-to-be superstar ready to get swept up in the world of fame and money.
Riley made it clear she felt differently, however, as she said, "Woah... check him out." I could practically see her eyes light up as the screen faded into the beginning of a music video, the soft male vocals perfectly matching the artistic style of it. "His voice is amazing." She seemed mesmerised throughout the entire thing as she slowly tapped her foot along to the beat, and when the video eventually came to a close and panned into a shot of Taemin who smirked and winked, her cheeks flushed red.
That was the day my best friend became obsessed with Taemin Seong, and since then a day hasn't passed where I haven't heard his name.
