Chapter 12 - The magus guild (part two)

Erveine stood up- held Flint's hands and pulled along.

Straight past the scholars, and straight before the farthest room in the corridor- the room of the headmistress.

Fast-

Three knocks. "May I come in?" Urgency in her voice.

"Come in-"

Cluck!

Medium room.

Bright.

Eight people-

All sitting- they were in a meeting-

The woman- walked up to an elderly woman and whispered something.

Face slightly shivering- "We'll continue tomorrow-" the elderly woman said, standing up.

And though surprised- everyone walked out.

The elderly woman stared at Flint for a second, "You're the son of Edil and Ariel? You're Flint?" Though old- her voice had a smooth ring to it.

And a very commanding tone-

Possibly in her sixtees- the woman had plump skin and semi-white hair.

She had the garb of the headmistress- aka- a golden garb with a purple scarf and black tie.

'She was a woman?'

"I am-"

The woman came over- stood before him- "Oh, I'm so sorry-" She took him in her arms…

Warm- full of life-

Yet- Flint didn't feel anything.

His eyes didn't water- and-

'So, you knew both of them-' And this woman thought of them important enough to just cancel the meeting and talk to him instead.

Meaning- this could work.

He definitely had a shot!

"I'll tell you everything but- please if you can, tell me what happened and who did it-" After all, that was the only reason he came here.

He already knew his parents worked in his city before.

And that's why when the demon said she wanted to come to Brooke- he didn't complain even once.

He thought he could come here and figure things out-

And-

And… that was naïve thinking- he agreed.

But he didn't really know they were related to this place or the headmistress here….

And- even if it meant joining this place just to get answers- he was prepared for it. And he had enough money for it.

At least for the first week.

"But dear-" The elderly woman let out a breath- let's sit down.

They all took their seats-

The elderly woman introduced herself as Erwiene Xencoster the master of this place- and the other lady as Erveine Xencoster one of the teachers and librarians. They were mother and daughter. Both knew Flint's mother-

They adored her- at least according to them, and were deeply hurt…

Which was why- Flint took a gamble-

And explained things as he saw.

On that night- a week ago-

The sky lit up.

The village lit up-

And though both his parents defended- they didn't stand a chance.

His father's technique didn't work and neither did his mother's magic.

The whole village was wiped…

"Hmmm… not many could have done it-" The elderly woman paused. "That spell might have been at least a calamity class spell if not a Catastrophe- and even if that was the case- they shouldn't have been able to trounce Ariel's barrier…unless-" She paused- and didn't finish.

"And how strong would an individual who cast it be?"

"Spells come in all forms- but only few could cast something that powerful…. I'd say that person would be substantially strong- at least as strong as me or stronger- more likely the latter."

"Do you have any idea who?"

A bit troubled. "I could name a few but- none of whom I know would just destroy a village for no reason…." She sighed. "But-"

"But?"

"You know of the recent hero summoning, yes?"

"You mean the three overlords?"

"Yes…"

Though Flint had a faint suspicion- he didn't think it was possible. After all- "But why would they-"

Or rather, he didn't want to believe that.

After all- the overlords were far-far too powerful and many powerful people in the world had already fallen, along with the strongest man in the world- Darksy.

If the strongest man in the world didn't stand a chance- then how could he?

Which was why- those three were the last people he wanted the culprits to be.

"Exactly- they raid for fun. They wouldn't destroy a measly village for no reason-"Erveine, the woman next to him said. "It'll take time but I'll arrange a formal investigation and-"

But her tone suggested she thought the overlords did it as well.

And though Flint had his doubts, he also agreed.

'Then aiming to be the strongest in the world wouldn't suffice?' He had talent- something which he knew.

However- not enough to be the strongest and he knew that too.

The longer he looked into this-

The more he thought-

The harder the path seemed to be, if not impossible.

"How long would that take?"

"At least a month-"

'Shit!' But he didn't let it show. "Thank you- I have just one final question-"

"And what is that my dear?" The elderly woman asked-

"What is the strongest spell you can teach me and how long would it take?"

"Right now the strongest spell I know- is Quaker- I could teach you that if you had earth affinity but I'm afraid you're not suitable and even if you were… it would take at least two years."

'Two years…' Flint wanted revenge right now.

But he knew that was impossible.

Patience wasn't his forte but at the same time, rushing this meant death.

He wanted revenge, and he wanted it more than anything else.

However- if he went about it like an impatient idiotic prick, he was only going to mentally stagnate himself just like Anne said.

Which was why-

He calmed down.

"I see… any other water or lighting spells that could kill someone immediately?"

"Huh?" Realizing- "No, you can't just-" She stopped… "I'm sorry. I know it's hard- I know it's really hard but-"

"Thank you for your time." A nod and Flint walked out. "I'll come back in a month- and here you go-" He gave Erveinee- a pouch of silver coins- exactly 200. "If I want to enroll, I will let you know beforehand. Really thank you." With a firm bow- he left

Though not conclusive he got some good info.

And as he thought-

He wasn't good enough to face them-

Yet.

'Just being strongest won't be enough…' he really wanted to punch something- but-

In the end-

He controlled himself and thought things through….
