It took some time but just before midnight Flint and Amanda arrived at the first border town.
"Halt!"
The city guards stopped the duo.
"State your business. And why at this hour?" Two guards. Both on the other side of the steel door. A small hole for them to see each other-
Some others were atop the walls.
Pyres lit-
Watchmen keeping watch in the towers.
"Adventurers. We're merely migrating cities; got attacked by bandits on the way," Amanda said.
"Cards?"
They showed the cards.
"Oh wow. We have a strong boi on her hands." They chuckled but gave the cards back.
A slight breeze.
Though stars were abundant, the moons were hidden behind a thick veil of cloud.
Was it going to rain?
"We have some bandit corpses. We'd like to claim the bounties. Can we do that tonight?" Amanda said.
The guard struck a thinking pose. "Please do it tomorrow. The sergeant's having his beauty nap."
