"Thank you, it was fun," she said.
Evening.
They walked around the town all day.
Eating different things, sightseeing, just lazing beneath some grand tree, and basically doing nothing.
And now, they were at the very doorstep of the Baron's manner.
About to go in-
"Don't mention it. it was fun for me too."
It'd been a long while since Flint took a day off.
He didn't forget anything-
No, he couldn't forget them.
Even so- today, this day- perhaps wasn't so bad…
All there was left to do-
Was- collect the payment.
***
"What do you mean you won't pay me?"
The Baron twirled his mustache, annoyance. "I believe we've already paid you, yes?"
Samantha had already gone back to her room, leaving the old guard, the Baron, and Flint in the living.
"500 silvers-" Flint said, not quite glaring but-
"That ought to be enough for just lazing around town, wouldn't you agree?"
Flint stared at the man, calm. "I'm afraid no. This quest clearly states you'd give me 800 and this one states- 5000. Failure to deliver would mean the guild would step into the scene and that'd mean, you could very well lose your title; and you'd certainly lose the right to place another quest for the guild, ever again."
Teeth against teeth- "I know that!" Flaring. "But I don't have the money you dumb numbskull!!"
"Then why did you offer such abundant rewards?"
"As a noble, our lord had to keep his image…" The old guard whispered.
"I'm sorry but this is clearly forgery. I will take my leave now. Be prepared to hear back from the guild-"
"Wait!" The voice came-
Samantha-
She hurriedly came down the stairs.
Lots of creaking-
How the stairs were still holding on, was truly a mystery.
"Wh-what are you doing down here-" The Baron staggered.
Yet, the girl ignored her father and stood before Flint, handing him a bag of coins.
"Still not enough-" Flint said, eyeing the bronze and silver coins-
Roughly 500 more or so silvers and about 50 copper.
Totaling 105 gold.
A faint smile. "I'll pay you back… eventually. So- give me a bit of time?"
Flint sighed.
Well at least, he was getting some more coins.
Though he said the guild will intervene, they probably won't.
After all, this kind of thing wasn't rare.
The fact that he was getting paid in the first place, was a rarity too. Scams generally… well, were scams. And paid nothing.
So-
"Alright. I'll hold you to your word." A hand raised; Flint just walked out.
The old guard followed him out-
The wolf Demi human meanwhile just stared…
"What are you doing?" The Baron spoke- "You gave him your money!?"
"He didn't just help me out of sheer pity or the need of money… I think he was like me…" She smiled. "A little lonely." A snicker.
The Baron stared at his daughter… mouth agape. 'She laughed…'
***
Yawn.
"Well, that was something…" Flint mumbled, staring around.
Even without the girl with him, he still got stares.
Perhaps because he was full of bandages, or perhaps-
But-
Given how he had an open sword hanging on his waist and that cool demeanor, no one bothered to say a thing to him.
With some more walking, Flint entered the guild and went straight to the counter. "You set me up."
A wide grin. "How much did they pay?"
"About ten gold."
Pleasantly surprised. "Really? I was expecting half of that…" She giggled.
Flint sighed. "Thanks to that, I won't be able to pay the full fee. So, here's half." Flint dropped, exactly 400 silvers on the table.
"Here's your receipt."
'Is it me or she still mad?'
The receptionist showed no real animosity but Flint still got some goosebumps.
Regardless, Flint gave her back the adventurer's card and went for the exit.
And with that he was done-
Or he would have been if a certain lady with large tits wasn't blocking his way- "You stood me up-" she said.
Cocking his head to the side- "I'm sure miss Frey should have told you-" He mumbled.
"I might have forgotten-" Frey said, from the distance. Her long ears weren't just for show.
Mouth almost hanging, Flint stared back at Aria and just saw her tongue sticking out as she ran off in annoyance.
'Fu….'
Flaring- the woman- Amanda- glared. "Any excuses?"
"I'll explain. How about some wine? My treat." He really didn't want to spend money but-
"Alright… but it better be good…"
***
"I see…" Amanda mumbled, sipping.
Cheap wine.
But hey- at least it was free.
"I'm sorry. And here's your 100 silvers, we're even."
"Keep it. If it was yesterday, that would have been acceptable. But today, that isn't. You owe me ten kisses, and tonight, I'll take them all!"
Flint opened his mouth, pointed his hand- tried forming various sentences but eventually… just gave up.
Pointless.
There was nothing to say.
Nothing at all.
Not a frigging word.
So, Amanda grinned proudly. "Where are you staying?"
"The Magus Guild…"
"Wait, you're enrolled?"
"I'm supposed to, today."
A blow- and a smirk. "Well, for now, let's go over to my place, grab some dinner, and then…" A lick of lips.
Flint gulped but-
A deal was a deal.
