Chapter 1 - My Life

Shrrrrrg !!!

"oh no" I cursed as i scrambled out off my bed at the sound my clock's alarm.I hurriedly turned it off with a slam.l grabbed my phone from desk as I checked the time ." phew thank goodness it's just 5'0 clock or mum would have killed me for staying up late, last night" I sighed in relief as I got ready to hit the shower. Looking at my reflection in the mirror, I saw a beautiful girl with black and thick hair, with a small oval shaped face, small pointed nose and perked up ears. I smiled at my self and whispered" you look gorgeous today Liliana Howard and today will surely be a great. Today for my first day at THE LIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL, I worn a handless pink dress with a mini skirt and a two inches heeled boots. I stared into air as I remembered all the good times mum and I had in this house. Tears welled down my eyes, as I looked over my room which was now empty. I really wish i do not have to go to the boarding school as am worried mum will overwork herself when am gone. It's has been only me and mum ever since I remember, dad left us before I was even born due to an unfortunate event. Mum is not alright but pretends to be for me, sometimes I even hearing crying in muffled sounds in the middle of the night in fear that I may hear her. Ever since dad died it's not been easy on mum as she works hard to ensure that we live a better life accompanied with the stress of losing her husband and disappointing me. l am 16 this year and I won a scholarship award to one of the top school in the world, I mean every student's aspiring dream school which is known worldwide for its facilities and standard of education which definitely stood at the top. l know she proud of me and wants the very best for me but I know she scared of sending me so faraway and she's actually hurt deep down by the thought of being away for me. Even I feel sad and I had refused to go but mum refused me with tears stained eyes " Liana I can't keep you here forever because of mine selfish desires" she said as she swiped her eyes and smiled at me , " you know you will have to leave someday whether I like it or not so ..."I threw myself into her arms before she could complete her words as I cried "please don't say that mum I will never leave" I said as I cleaned her eyes."Even i...f I le...ave some... day I always brin..g you with me" I stuttered as I denied words. As the memories of my time with mum came flooding down my reluctance to go away increased even more.

"Liliana Howard what the hell are still doing up there, do you really want to be late on your first day on campus" my mum's voice brought me out of me trance. Hearing her worried and stressed about me made smile as I tried to clean my eyes " breathe Liliana, breathe, everything's gonna be alright" I scolded myself as I tried to calm my nerves and worried heart as I ran down the stairs after sweeping through my room one last with my eyes, as I ingrained every single detail in my mind. Finally reaching the dinning room I could hear my mum in the kitchen as I smelled the sweet smell of my one of favourite dishes - Nuggets, with Buffalo wings and cactus juice with apple pie." Mum am down, and how was your night" I smiled as I ran into the kitchen and gave her kiss on her cheeks." Young lady what have you been doing up" she said without looking at me as she was so focused on the food she was preparing." Nothing much just some prep talk" I said as I took some plates from the shelf and placed them on the table for her. Stopping abruptly, she turned to me with a frown on her beautiful face " seriously prep talk you say" she asks me as she walks towards me with a frown, which immediately turns to a worried look as she looks into my eyes." what ? something on my face" I asked as she stared at me. With a worried look on her face and panicking voice she asked "Honey, have you been crying? what's the matter? Are you alright?" she threw several questions at me as she reached out to me and held my shoulders, caressing my face. Out of guilty and being nervous about worrying mum unnecessarily I looked away refusing to look in her eyes, noticing my strange behaviour she started sobbing as rambled on " did I do something wrong ? do you want anything Liana?, tell mum and she'll make it right okay, I know if your dad was here he will would've made everything right". Seeing mum blame herself like she usually does made my heart ached in pain as I shook mum her by the shoulder try ing to bring her to reality " mum stop it I don't like it when you keep blaming yourself for every unfortunate thing that happens in our lives, its not your fault for any of those things, the it's not your fault the dad is not here today and I know he will be proud of you, for everything you've done to keep this family standing today, mum. l Love you and please be strong for me and dad" I said in one breath as tears streamed down our eyes as we hugged each other standing in the kitchen.
