Chapter 4 - A Will to Live

Her vision is blurred as she walked aimlessly in the road. Cara walked in circles in unknown path with disheveled look as if she was a beggar travelling places to ask for alms. She had no intention to look back nor sto though she don't have the mana to move her head. Without food and water in the midst of barren and wasteland, she was about to collapse in deluded state.

No! She screamed voicelessly. The feet that were in deep wounds continue to move on its own while she follow the path of nowhere. It has been weeks since the accident happened that she managed to escape. She wondered to which direction she bravely takes or she might end more dangerous than the steeply cliff. Her body is on the verge of breaking yet her determination fuel her to move. 'Let's runaway from everything. Let's make sure to leave this place' she muttered as she continue to move. With her meager strength, she leaned on a stump as her vision turned to darkness. Please allow me to leave from this place, I don't want to be trapped in this place even in death, she prayed desperately. The scenes in her lifetimes are so vivid that she was so consumed with helplessness.Overwelmed, her body collapsed as her body and mind agreed and decided due to exhaustion.

Engulfed with darkness, she was at peace knowing she will die peacefully without any remorse or guilt in this lifetime. The sky grew dark and it downpoured heavily. Her body was immersed in heavy rain as she accepted her tragic fate. Cold seeped in her dress that she felt drown in total darkness and cold.

The sky blessed the earth with rain in the midst of summer. The Argent Kingdom didn't predict the weather yet all they know the heavens mourned as they lost a Saintess who unfortunately casted a forbidden spell to bless the crown prince.

"That tramp!" Duke Tiexery exclaimed as he host the funeral of the Saintess to the public in hos dukedom. His entire family looked at the casket irritably as they force themselves to grieve an illegitimate child of unknown origin. She was a just a lucky child who happens to have divine power.

Duke Tiexery could still remember the woman he defiled and impregnate in the conquered city. She was a noble yet unknown since it was a neighboring country. That woman is a prize of war he was given as he conquered in his youth. He knows that he is already married to the current Duchess and already had his children yet that woman is remarkably beautiful. He needed to behead her fiancee in front of her and execute her whole household except her. He really liked when that woman screamed endlessly and begged for mercy as he delight in him. He can't resist that woman even in her poor condition. That beautiful noble whom he laid his eyes on was definitely his. He was so crazy at her until he impregnant her. That child was definitely his and that woman's offspring. He loathe the child when the woman dies of childbirth. Her body couldn't handle the labor. Duke Tiexery wanted to kill the child yet the child emits divinity that even his whole generation household couldn't have. He ordered to send that still born child to the temple as he puts her whole fate whether that spawn lives or die. Yet that child survived.

He couldn't remember that child as years went by. The dukedom is too much to handle that he couldn't remember he had an offspring he sent away. He just remembered the child when he saw her in the temple healing with her divine mana. She has her mother's face with bright demeanor. Knowing that child survived and had powers he could use, he threatened the temple to get Cara. That child only learned how to be a servant of God yet he took her away from the temple and taught her bridal lessons to bait the royals. Cara was an obedient child and he wonders how did she learned the forbidden spell that causes her demise.

'Who thought her that spell?' the priests who took care of her even wondered. Her heart and innocence was pure that she only learned how to heal people. that self destruct on her own. That girl is quite a talent that even the Pope wanted to monopolize the Saintess in the temple. If that Duke didn't diacovered that child, she could've been the key of expanding the Holy empire throughout kingdoms. The Pope of the Holy Empire looked disdainfully at Duke Tiexery. The Pope Helix known the child for so long that he couldn't believe that the Saintess died. He was undenial at first that the child was dead yet upon inspecting the body, he was somehow convinced. He saw the script he cast himself. There is a trace of diminishing mana from the script. The caster didn't handle the exhaustion that she couldn't fend herself from the assasins. Though her face was beyond undistinguishable, the orb can prove that the corpse is the Saintess. So it was concluded that the child met a perishable end and died at an early age bringing the curse of winter upon her own. It could have been a destructible weapon to use if it reached royals latter. Her fate was probably spared with eternal agony by casting the eternal desperation to the empire's crown prince with naive desperation of power and eternal blessings, Pope Helix sighed as he tossed the flower on the tombed.

The Argent royal was in shambles too. Though they are still the midst of mourning for the Saintess who died miserably by casting the blessing of eternal reign, the aristocrats planned to secure their households. The discussion of the candidates for the crown princess is already in the court. Crown Prince Vernon silently observed his soon to be subjects as they greedily pushed their households to one another. That young Saintess is the best suited candidate prepared for him yet she died unexpectedly.

Isn't she too young to depart in the world? Nope. He opposed. Looking at the ambitious aristocrats making their daughters pawn to the throne, she escaped fortunately by dying young. She emerges from the greedy household too who used brutal violence to covet what they wanted. The only noble from that household was having an illegitimate child who wields divine power. Vernon could still remember that face. She outshines among the crowd without lifting a finger and she exudes the elegance among the flowers in his banquet. She never showed desire to get his attention as she ensures to never looked at him in the eye. Aa she casted the spell he couldn't forget her painful expression in her eyes. She surely recognize her and familiarity surges within him that he couldn't fathom. forbidden spell painted on his mind.

He heard that the young Saintess suffered internal injury and deplete of mana. He couldn't understand how that child manage to cast a spell as if she already knew it coming. That spell almost cost the life of the crown prince is she didn't casted another spell to secure the barrier. Her divinity maximized the spell that could destroy the whole kingdom of Argent. She enable to minimize the damaged by corrupting her powers to self destruct. It was a one time power to bless someone while cursing the caster herself. What was she so desperate about? As he reminisce her unexplainably sad expression while looking at him intently.

"To my dearest Vernon," as she sealed the spell through her kiss. He could still hear her talking something else yet the loud impact of her mana exploded that all he had to do is close his eyes.

A maiden version of the Saintess flashed in his mind as she smiled sweetly and stroking his face. She was looking at him affectionately as if they were already spent a lifetime.

A week after and heard what happened, the Saintess able to open her eyes. Vernon sent his royal guard to the Duke's territory to inquire about her yet she was decreed to exile in the North due to the huge damage and the forbidden use of spell in the kingdom. The weather shifts as snow drops in the middle of summer. She was sent to the nunnery of the North as the royal discovered that her divine mana was gone. The Saintess is no longer use of their agenda that even the greedy Duke cast her aside immediately.

That day she departed from the high walls of Argent, he was their merging in the crowd. She looked serene that her once remorseful expression turned to genuine smile as if she was in freed from. Even the Pope declared that her exile to the North border's nunnery was an excuse to discard her. She is no longer of use yet she smiled in full expectancy.

'I hope she leaves this place as soon as possible,' he said as he looked at her one last time. The North will surely welcome an innocent child who fortunately freed from complicated events in the capital. He wished sincerely not knowing that child will be killed in the same day brutally assasinated.
