Chapter 11 - chapter 10

Chapter ten

The white haired man looked at all the people in his office, his eyes scanned from face to face.

Zamuel was sitting alone in a corner away from everyone. Peter, who was flagged by both his parents. Rose, shooting side glances in Peter's direction.

Then there was his son, Patrick, Rose's father, too. His hands sank into the pockets of his pants.

Oh, and Gabby too. The cleaner.

All of them looked up to him on the false podium like he was some kind of saviour. Well, maybe he was.

"Okay. Let's start with simple introductions" he said.

"I am Hanan. A scientist. Let's say I am a time scientist. The flow of time and its manipulation are things I deal with".

With that said, he went on to call names of each one of the people in the tiny room.

"Okay. Before the zombies came, we all lived normal lives and I was just a regular old man that you'd see in the streets".

"What zombies?" Zamuel asked. His eyes were darting all around the room.

"We'd get there, calm down little one".

Hanan looked around again to make sure he had the attention of everybody before continuing.

"Mark Hart, 45, is a doctor. He is the foundation of all these problems too. Dr Mark created his own organization where human parts could be fixed for any kind of injury."

"Their major speciality was battle casualties. The government would send all their injured soldiers over to him to get them "fixed". So till then, Mark was a good man. As long as a person was still breathing, Mark could repair whatever damages".

"Up until one day when he woke up and thought to himself that humans needn't die for the sake of peace. He proposed creating soldiers who won't be able to get hurt. An army where the soldiers didn't have emotions."

"And of course, after the government learnt that his experiments were going to entail introducing certain viruses into the human bloodstream, they shut down the deal. The government also closed down his facilities"

"The whole world thought that Mark had accepted defeat but he hadn't. He had kidnapped some people, ranging from orphans to poor beggars by the road side"

"Two years ago, one of his specimens escaped from his hidden facility . The injected virus was meant to kill the host's mental will, turning them to the ultimate killing machine."

"But the one that escaped had undergone an incomplete metamorphosis. The virus had somehow managed to make itself drive the host to assist it's spreading"

"And this is the result of that mistake. We tried locating Dr Mark but his body was found, dead"

"Eh", Peter began, "if that was two years ago, why are they just invading us now?"

"Patience. That two years ago, to us, is your present time. We came here from the future for you both."

"Your parents, Zamuel, they weren't saved because we won't be needing them. More heat signatures can make us open to attacks from the zombies. After this mission, they'll be alive"

"The only reason we saved Luana and Jack was because of their skill with weapons. It would come in handy when we need defense".

"But why does it have to be us that would save the world?", Zamuel asked. It was surprising that he was collected. He didn't sound pained in the least.

"I hate to admit this, but I do believe in prophecies and there is one. One prophecy that tells about two boys. Two friends in America, Zamuel and Pete, who would save the world from an inhumane force. It says that "they would change time"

"After months of searching, only you both seemed to be the best match to the prophecy details. We still couldn't be sure and so we waited more. Stalking you both was the best we could do. It was hard, especially around you, Peter".

"We knew that it was both of you only this afternoon when you both talked about having the same dreams. Patrick was around listening in to your conversation"

"We had to act quick and that was what brought us here. We're sorry that we had to do it by force. We are. But now isn't time to mull over our losses because we'd have to train and then after three days, you'd move. Peter, Zamuel and my granddaughter, Rose. The three of you would go back in time to prevent the rise of Dr Mark's first facility".

"This isn't a movie, right?", Luana asked with a faint smile.

"No. It isn't, these children are going to rewrite the history of time, because that's the only way that we can do this without having to kill off all the infested people"

"This is the race of time against zombies!"

When he was done talking, Hanan sighed. He had made the whole deal sound very light, but he knew that it wasn't. Infact, there were so many bad sides that he was too scared to navigate into.

For now, he'll go with the flow and see how things would turn out.
