Chapter 36 - A Blessing In Disguise

"Do you think it's them?"

"Most likely, but I also know they aren't able to afford such methods."

"Would Master Li's method work?"

Ji Fang asked further. He also liked Ji Min a lot; not only was the kid inhumanly talented, diligent, and curious, but he was also humble and very filial.

"I'm not sure. It would be an invasion of foreign Qi and that might at best kill him instantly and at worst make him suffer for the remaining few days of his life." Ji Tian replied with a pained sigh.

"But doesn't that mean he can purge the poison out with his Qi?" Ji Fang hurriedly blurted in hope.

"Sure, but there are two problems; one, he's not even conscious enough for us to tell him the procedure, and secondly; he had also been fed the Meridian Melting Pill."

"What!?"

The energy within the room suddenly began to hum and cackle as Ji Fang's body began to tremble.

Lightning snaked across the night sky and thunders boomed across the town nearly deafening the members of the southern family.

"Fang!" Ji Tang called.

"Sorry brother; I lost control for a bit there." Ji Fang apologized with a bow.

Ji Tang nodded before throwing the scroll at Ji Fang.

"That's the least we can do for him now. Find the whereabouts of everything within that scroll and get back to me."

"I won't fail you a second time, brother" Ji Fang said as he planted his fist on his chest.

By the next day, Ji Fang had managed to find the whereabouts of a Crowned Hypnotic Spider; a six-centennial beast whose poison only attacked the consciousness of its victims, turning them into zombies that it could control at will.

This was one of the most effective ways of slowing down the effects of the disease.

This specific beast was said to be extremely rare and was majorly found within the deeper areas of the demon continent, and luckily for them, this one had run into a Blue Flamed Salamander; another six-centennial beast that was a natural predator of the Crowned Hypnotic Spider.

The two beasts had fought tooth and nail with one another, and Ji Tang was able to report back on time, as he and his two sworn brothers managed to arrive at the scene on time; they killed both spiders and used the venom on Ji Min.

The venom apparently targets the emotions of its victims, and once it finds its most emotional memory, it then uses that memory to trigger an illusion that traps the thoughts of its victim within their wildest fantasies until they eventually lost the will to awaken.

Since it was also the venom of a six-centennial beast, it was able to suppress the cocktail of venom within Ji Min, and thus, the boy was placed in a somewhat painless state; or to be more precise, his mind was too occupied to register the pain that his symptoms brought.

But unfortunately, they had underestimated the effects of the venom that came from a middle-ranked centennial beast; instead of suppressing the other venoms, the venoms all gathered together to amplify the effects of the hypnotic venom.

This scenario caused the utter destruction of Ji Min's consciousness, which was already too weak from all the pain it had experienced the day before, leaving only a tiny spark behind.

To Ji Tang's sworn brothers, this was the best-case scenario, as the venom would not only allow Ji Min to live out his greatest fantasies, but also relieve him of the daily hour of agony he usually experienced every midnight.

They were hoping to keep Ji Min in this state until Master Li can return with help; this was the plight of Ji Min who Daniel had eventually transmigrated into.

Daniel sighed and just as he was about to return to the old monk, the voice of a young kid echoed within his mind.

[Venerable master, thank you for giving me this opportunity to pass on my dying wishes to my father; please, kindly tell him to avenge my mother and me. If he can, it's all good; but if he can't, please tell him to live on happily on behalf of mother and me.]

The voice said with a regretful tone that touched Daniel himself.

[I have only been hanging on for so long so that I can pass on this message. Thank you once again and tell grandpa I love him.] The voice added before fading away.

Daniel felt something leave the soul he was currently occupying and the rejection he had been facing also vanished along with it.

A few minutes later, Daniel reappeared before the old monk and narrated the entire situation to him. The Old Monk absorbed all the information and closed his eyes in deep thought.

After about ten solid minutes, he finally opened his eyes.

[It seems the kid thinks you were an ancient expert who was able to possess him and take his dying wishes. This is an ancient practice and all the disciples of Shangri La used it a lot to not only let their families and friends rest in peace but to also obtain information.] The Old Monk explained as Daniel sighed.

[He's a great kid. But now that I am here, I will be sure to make those old devils suffer a fate worse than death.] Daniel growled through gritted teeth.

[That's great, but now that you are here, I think it would be better for me to pass on everything I know to you, and then we can figure out how to get rid of the problems plaguing this kid.] The Old Monk said with a sigh.

[You have a solution to this problem? Wow, I had thought we would have needed to wait for those two to arrive.] Daniel blurted in glee as the old monk chuckled.

[Hehe; what these people feel is life-threatening actually turns out to be a blessing in disguise for you.] The Old Monk claimed as Daniel's eyes widened.

[Really?!]

[Hehe, of course; don't worry, you will understand once I fully tell you about myself and what Shangri La is all about, and just how powerful its legacy is.]

The Old Monk answered as Daniel calmed down and paid rapt attention to what he was about to hear.
