Lucian reclined in his car seat while eyeing the red light before him with a dull look.
This was the eighth time they were stopped, and Lucian was getting fed up.
He was even debating asking Alecia to hack the traffic lights at this point.
Lucian tilted his head and turned to Stella, sitting on his left.
"How did I let you talk me into this again?"
"It was either this or…."
Stella cracked her knuckles with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
"This."
Lucian shifted in his seat, trying to distance himself and his fiance.
"Right…"
He'd much rather go to the facility to train than fight this demoness.
At least they might know the meaning of the word 'restraint.'
Seeing Lucian's nervousness, Stella smirked.
"Are you uncomfortable with the idea of no longer training with me? You know… We can always go back to our previous arrangement."
Grimacing, Lucian shot her a glare.
"As if. I'd rather not go home with every bone in my body broken."
"Aww, Really? I loved our training sessions, though…."
"Damned sadist."
"You know that most guys would kill to have a one-on-one training session with me."
"Good, take them then. Watching someone else suffer through the same hell I had to would be quite refreshing."
"I wonder just who the real sadist among the two of us actually is."
*DING*
A mechanical beep interrupted the two of their conversations, causing them to look at the screen on the car's dashboard.
"Hmm? Lucian, what's this?"
Stella turned to her fiance with a confused look.
"..."
Unfortunately, it didn't look like he even noticed her, being too preoccupied with the sight on the dashboard before him.
[CODE GRAY]
Tapping the screen, he read the warning that Alecia had sent him via the dashboard.
"I see we got some company…" Lucian muttered.
"Hmm? Sorry, what did you say? I missed that."
"We have a tail, Stella. A couple of black vans have been following us for quite a while now. I don't know if they are going in the same direction or are actually following us, though."
"Hmm… Why not take a few random turns and see if they keep following us?"
"Already on it."
Alecia immediately took a right turn, picking up on their conversation via the car's built-in microphone.
Lucian and Stella looked behind them, only to see the group of black vans take the same right turn.
They repeated this process a couple more times and were almost 100% sure.
Their car had taken almost 3 redundant turns, so if they were followed even through that, it only meant one thing.
Those three cars behind them were definitely following them.
Stella pulled out her phone and began frantically dialling a number on it.
"I'll call my butler for him to send help, but for now, I suggest we keep on our original track to the training facility."
Lucian flashed his fiance a dumbfounded look.
"Why should we go there? Shouldn't getting away from these people be our top priority?"
"Trust me. That's the closest place we can get help."
Lucian paused for a moment before reluctantly nodding his head.
"I'll trust your judgment."
'But this doesn't mean I'm not going to use some tricks of my own.'
Lucian stealthily pulled out his phone and typed a few words without Stella seeing.
'I leave this to you, Alecia.'
The car continued to speed forward, nearing a nearby traffic intersection.
"Shoot, It's red again! We need to get there quickly!" Stella cried.
However, as soon as their car neared, the light immediately turned green, allowing them to pass unimpeded.
Even weirder was that as soon as their car managed to pass, the signal light immediately turned yellow again and then red.
Effectively stopping a few of the pursuing vans behind the red light.
"Is there some kind of traffic malfunction? Whatever it is, it just bought us a bit of time!"
Stella turned to look behind them and could only count 3 vans.
"We just need to get these last three off our trail, and then we'll be home free."
'If it's just three, Alecia should be able to take them out in one fell swoop.'
Pulling out his phone once more, Lucian sent Alecia another message.
Moments later, one of the black vans suddenly swerved to the left, ramming headfirst into the other two.
*BANG*
Faced with the sudden impact, the 2 cars were barreling into a nearby wall.
*BANG BANG*
Fortunately, they didn't have enough leftover momentum to go straight through the wall, but even so, they smashed headfirst into it, causing the airbags to deploy.
Luckily it seemed that none of the nearby bystanders were harmed, though the extent of the damage was that they appeared to be a little shaken. That was it.
Lucian wasn't sure if the people in the vans made it out alive, but he didn't care too much about that.
However… Lucian had a nagging feeling that they somehow made it out.
After all, they wouldn't send weaklings to catch either of them.
Upon turning into a vampire, Lucian felt his appreciation towards human life slowly dwindle away day-by-day, from viewing them as 'his people to 'sentient food.'
As long as they weren't people he cared about personally, he didn't care too much about them.
Especially those who aimed to harm his fiance and him.
'Hmmph. Trying to challenge me? You're all 100 years too young.'
If either Alecia or Stella could hear Lucian's thoughts, they would have labelled him as an old man for talking like that.
"Lucian, what was that?" Stella asked with visible confusion.
"I think they had some kind of steering wheel problem. I couldn't quite tell from here."
Stella turned to her fiance with a piercing gaze.
"Did you do this?"
Lucian innocently shrugged his shoulders in response.
"How could I do anything like that? If anything, I would have thought you did this with your special ability."
"Please, as if I can lock on to a position on a moving car. They're way too fast for me to get a fix on their current location. Of course, the fact that I'm in another car doesn't help either. I don't know what happened, but it certainly wasn't because me."
"Well, whatever it was, it worked out for us in the end. So let's just be happy with the end result."
Stella threw Lucian one more inquisitive look before nodding her head.
"Alright, let's just go with that then… Wait, look! We're here!"
Stella excitedly points out her window to a nearby building labelled 'Goldman's Gym.'
"We're finally at the training facility?"
In contrast to his fiance's peppy attitude upon reaching the gym, Lucian's expression fell upon looking at some people entering and leaving the gym.
Everyone looked buff as if it was some gathering hub for enthusiastic bodybuilders.
Some even carried protein shake jugs the size of Lucian's head!
"Great… I'm going to a gym filled with muscle brains… I'm already regretting this."
