Chapter 40 - Children Cure and Mental Illness

Bai Gujing heard the old man's voice again. This time he was excited about the interaction just now. Bai Gujing started to sweat. Had he done something wrong just now? He still wasn't ready to face their questions. What was he to tell them about what happened to him or who he was if they asked? He was Bai Gujing, but he wasn't wasn't.

Luckily, the garden visit ended without anyone asking. The cub had returned with another leaf after the first time. Bai Gujing gave him another candy. With one in either fist, the young boy was confused for a minute before he finally moved them to hold in a single fist. He'd dropped the candies while doing so. The first mud-covered cand was already half melted at that point. By the third leaf, the first one was gone. The boy was shocked.

He tearfully looked up at Bai Gujing. Bai Gujing was honestly a little frightened. He'd studied humans before, but cubs were a different matter. They were delicate, precious, and heavily protected. One wrong move would ruin him. He wanted to show the boy what to do with the candies so he nibbled the leaf. When the boy saw this, he also put the new candy in his mouth. His eyes lit up. He licked his hand fir the other two candies and ran off again. He was full of spirit. It was as if he'd discovered a new world.

But the fourth trade never happened. The unhappy young man carried the reluctant child off.

The nanny at the side, who should have wiped the child's hands clean, looked like she didn't dare move and scare Bai Gujing. Bai Gujing interaction with another human being was more important to the family. It didn't matter if a child ate a bit more dirt, did it?

Once the nanny was done there, she quickly told her employer about the matter. Soon, the whole family had heard about it. Bai Gujing had left for an awakening. It seems that awakening can improve one's mental state. The grandmother naturally saw this interaction from the window.

"Call his psychologist. I want a report by tomorrow." She told Du Dong.

The old man, Du Dong, excitedly chattered for a few more minutes before heading off to pick up Bai Gujing. Back in his room, Bai Gujing let out a deep breath. That was until the old man pulled him to the bathroom to wash his face and brush his teeth. The whole time the old man was holding the toothbrush and brushing for him, he was mumbling about how it isn't good to eat leaves. Bai Gujing thought that the old man's teeth brushing skills were very good. It felt like a massage. Didn't something like this happen before?

[Before Host left the room, Du Dong had washed Host's face, hands, and brushed his teeth.]

Bai Gujing understood. He must have glazed over it again. He was thinking about his training at the academy. Now he realized he needed to learn it all again. Maybe he should try to go to human school? Bai Gujing needed to learn again and he wants to find a companion. The old man had said the school was a good place for such things. But with so many people around, he wondered if he'd be allowed. If he did well with the psychologist, would there be a chance? He wanted to do well.

The old man left to call the psychologist. Bai Gujing was left alone in his room. He wondered if he should visit Area Two to pass the time. He didn't want to be asleep when they arrived. He looked at the book shelf. He quickly found that he preferred looking at the pictures to reading.

There were no pictures in his previous world. Pictures were ideas sent mentally without an image. Having not experienced it, it's a little difficult to understand. Humans can remember the red triangle strawberries through smelling it. As long as they smell it, they know what it is and connect it to the memory of having seen it. It's similar to that. The 'imagery' of human females are taught the same way. This was also how Bai Gujing learned about the body he was supposed to enter, and the body his Cleo was sent into. Although he hadn't 'seen' females or himself with his new eyes or been given an image, the mental idea of it was still present. He could 'see' it through the 'feel' of it. Maybe it was more like a blind person touching something? So seeing a saved image was a new experience for Bai Gujing. He only knew something like this existed on Earth.

Bai Gujing looked through books and found his favorite pictures and laid them all out so he could see them all at once. He was happily humming at his montage when people walked in. The boy sitting on the floor didn't even notice when they entered. He sat on his feet with his knees to his chest and rocked back and forth. It gave off a very different feel to when he was using this posture as a protective measure.

The psychologist had hurried over as soon as he got the call. Bai Shufen knew he would react this way. She had paid him to do so. Also, it was a great chance for the doctor. He was only allowed to work with the young master because the patient was frightened of females. He was third best, so the chance to work with the Bai jia didn't come easily. Not only was this the Bai jia, it was also a chance to take a look up close at the effects of an awakened patent. His autism and PTSD was severe. He was interested to know what changes an awakening would bring. Seeing this sight, he was excited.

"There is indeed progress in his condition!"

Du Dong had left to make a call and picked up Bai Gujing's lunch as well. When he heard the doctor had arrived, he brought him with him. He saw the mess on the floor and put the food on the coffee table. He couldn't let the food get on the books. He gently pulled the boy to the couch and sat him down.

Bai Gujing could feel his pictures getting further away from him and quickly picked one up as he was tugged away. He only came to when the old man put a sandwich in his hand. It looked colorful. Bai Gujing suddenly jerked. He noticed another person in the room. He looked around. He was on a couch and his pictures had been left behind. He had a colorful poison dart frog in his other hand. This must be the psychologist. He looked at him.

The psychologist was a thin man with glasses. He had small, curved eyes and big cheeks that always looked like he was smiling. He was paying attention to Bai Gujing while trying not to look at him. He settled on the opposite couch and pulled some things from his bag. There was a stack of oversized cards and some papers. Was this the test? Bai Gujing hoped he would do well.

He watched him as he ate the sandwich. The sandwich had a thick slice of juicy tomato and some refreshing guacamole. Bai Gujing even liked the banana peppers. The layers and layers of meat were his favorite part. He ate with relish. He hadn't eaten much breakfast as he was caught up in his thoughts. When he finished half a sandwich and the glass of milk he stopped. He wanted to eat more, but his stomach was full.

"Are you finished, fourth young master? Doctor Ah Min has come to talk with you. He wants to show you the pictures again today. Do you want to try and-" Du Dong tried taking the sandwich away.

Bai Gujing grabbed the plate. He still wanted to eat it. If his stomach couldn't eat it now, he would eat it later. Why was he stealing his food? Was he going to gorge on it while Bai Gujing took tests? He frowned.
