"How are you so certain I know whether you are telling the truth?"
"They would not have sent me to someone who can't. As long as they are sufficiently capable, that is. Also, you've been using magic on me since I arrived on this floor. As well as several other members."
He raised his brows, "They aren't going to like how proficient you are with such things."
"It is also necessary."
The old man agreed with a nod.
"How did you get an inheritance?"
"You want to know how to make it more common?" Cui Xuefeng shook his head, "It must come from somewhere. I can give you ways to awaken more magicians, even with specific elements if you have the resources, but there will never be another like me.
"You can help people awaken?"
"Yes. Humans do not have a good understanding of mana yet. I am willing to teach you in return for help towards my goal. I believe this is a fair trade."
"There are no other inheritors like you?"
"It's highly improbable for there to be others. I believe what I obtained is from the last surviving human of that timeline. But this is only an educated guess. There is nothing in the inheritance that tells me about the inheritance itself."
"The last human?" He laughed, "Those prideful brats won't like that at all!" He laughed again. "What happens if you were to give up on working with us?"
"Depends on the situation. I'd probably take up residence in a nearby realm with some other humans."
"I have to ask; What are the chances you will turn on us? On Earth and humanity?"
"On the association? Low. On Earth? I do not know if we can save it in the first place, so this is a moot question. As for humanity? Even if I am made into public enemy number one and everyone wants to kill me, I will still try and save them."
"You said your threat against the individual depends."
"My family is my bottom line."
"I see."
Doctor Duan continued asking questions. Most of them were for charity purposes and getting details. He tried to dig more information out of Cui Xuefeng about inheritances. This continued for almost four hours.
Doctor Duan stretched and took a look at the clock, "We've been here all night, but you don't even look tired."
"I'm using mana." Before he could dig again Cui Xuefeng directly offered, "I will gladly teach such things if I am given a class. Of course, this isn't for free.
"A lot of time has passed now. May I be allowed to return?"
"I thought you said that we wouldn't be able to stop you even if we put you in a magic prison?" The grandpa teased.
"I consider cooperation essential to achieve my goals. Being on good terms with one another is ideal."
"We would like to put you under surveillance," he tested.
Cui Xuefeng nodded, "It should take some time for your report to go through. Longer for people to accept it. I don't mind being watched, but I worry about my family. I want her to live how she wants to live."
"That requires freedom you may not have access to in order to fulfill the wishes of others." The doctor finished.
He nodded.
"Very well. I will add this as a requirement as well. More specific details can be worked out between you and somebody else some other time. Go away."
"Much appreciated." He got up to leave.
"Oh," The old man got up and opened a section from a wall. Cui Xuefeng noticed something arrive through the hidden shoot long ago. "Though you probably don't need it- cooperation and all that?" He walked over and gave Cui Xuefeng an awakeners badge.
It looked like laminated cardboard. Inside was actually an impressively advanced mana for the current level of humans he'd seen. This mana was capable of holding information inside. It was like a magic USB. There was a picture on it, a name, and other information. His assessment level was 'incomplete', but his clearance was already level two.
The other item was a monster. It was a familiar ugly tentacle monster. He recognized it as part of the same hive as Expert Huang's. This meant that whoever could see her video feed could see his as well. They were treating him as an important asset to give him such a high-leveled one so soon. It also meant they had that much higher a person keeping an eye on him. Whether this was a good thing or a bad thing remained to be seen.
Cui Xuefeng shot some mana into it. Seeing that there were no negative reactions, he tethered it to him with his mana, then minimized what could be perceived of it. Of course, just as when he used it on himself, this also included mana perception.
The old man looked over in shock.
After another few additions, it seemed to have completely disappeared. There were no mana fluctuations, visual cues, or other tells the old man could see. He was astonished. "Is this what you did before?" He was more surprised now than when Cui Xuefeng sensed his magic.
"With Cray? Some of them are." The old man knew the drill; He wouldn't share any more specifics until he obtained a contract. The information about the materials he shared with Huang Lei was to prove himself while the rest was bait. The fish he was trying to catch was a big one.
"If something comes up, call this number."
Cui Xuefeng nodded and left.
Huang Lei wasn't waiting for him, but he supposed she hadn't been ordered to since he would either be getting a card of cuffs slapped on. His new card allowed him to open the doors he needed to leave. Coming back by himself would not be possible through the use of the card, however.
Huang Lei had told him her office number earlier. He went and she took him to the prepared areas. The association had people around the clock, so she was used to staying up nights. If he'd been brought to the association building at noon he would be dealing with someone else. Doctor Duan was someone who couldn't be replaced, though, so he was called in separately.
He didn't spend any extra time teaching this time. Anyway, he'd already told her about some of the care they needed last time. After he'd dropped off everything he intended to drop off, he hurried home. His little creature was waiting for him.
