Chapter Five
The nurse in the room turned the button on the little tube connecting to the IV to regulate the dosage of the liquid in the pack above the bed. She then checked the pulse of the patient on the bed. Satisfied at the results of the checkup she just made, she turned around from the hospital bed and took up a tray from the side table and made for the door of the room. She exited the room, leaving the patient alone. By now the sedative was wearing off and Cecilia could gain consciousness any moment from then.
Twenty minutes had passed after the dosage was regulated and she woke up to what felt like a nostalgic feeling. Cecilia squinted her eyes to the dim lights in the room and tried to sit up from the bed. She turned her head sideways to inspect where she was and chanced on a glass of water on the side table. She took the glass and gulped the water down her throat leaving the glass empty. She tried to compose herself piecing together all that had happened that night. She knew Michael was in the Limousine when it blew up. Tears started to flow out of her eyes but she made sure they were only silent tears. Things will start to change now and she had to prepare herself for whatever was coming.
She felt a little cold from the low temperature stasis of the room. Lifting the blanket a little over her body, there was a considerable amount of warmth distributed on her bodice. She knew she wasn't supposed to gulp a full glass of water instantly. This, because, she now felt a little tingly in between her legs. She had to go to the loop immediately. Despite all this, she did not want to get up from the comfortable state she was currently in. Grunting uncomfortably from the thought of bringing herself to stand up, she shifted uneasily to the side of the bed and slipped her hanging feet in to some slippers to go.
She didn't know what to do with the IV needle strapped to her hand, so she held onto the metallic stand with wheels underneath supporting the bag of liquid connected to her. She moved steadily with quick steps towards the adjoined bathroom in her room. She sighed with satisfaction as she released the liquid that was making her uncomfortable from her body on the toilet. As she stood up, to return to the hospital bed, an uncomfortable sensation triggered within her. It was more of a warning signal and thus triggered a defensive mode. She walked cautiously to the door of the bathroom and opened it slightly to peep into the hospital room.
A tall figure with its back to the bathroom door was standing at a corner of the room. Cecilia suspected it to be a Man, with a straight body frame. She grew suspicious and scared, considering the events that took place earlier that night. She made a quick decision to close the door to the bathroom in order to lock herself in and wait for help, but she was too late. The man at the corner of the room noticed the door closing and within a strike of a second he moved quickly towards her and pushed the door open by force. Cecilia was shocked and was about to scream for help but the Man with a killer instinct wrapped his big palms around her mouth hindering her from screaming.
He then pulled her meticulously like a Pro from the Bathroom to the hospital bed. Cecilia tried to fight him with her hands and moving legs, but the man was too strong and he seemed to know what he was doing. He placed her on the bed with less sound in order not to draw attention to what he was about to do. The man then picked a pillow from behind her head and covered it violently over Cecilia's face. She knew what he was doing now. He intended to smother her to death. He pressed it hard on her face, hoping to make it quick. She was losing consciousness from the smother and just as she was nearing unconsciousness, she felt a rush of air back into her nostrils as the pillow was suddenly gone.
She couldn't see what had caused the pillow to fall off, but she heard some grunting from a struggle in the middle of the room. This went on for some minutes and then there was no sound. As her sight began to come back to her, she felt a hand on her shoulder, nudging her gently. She was about to scream for help, but the voice gently spoke…
"Cecilia, it's okay. He's gone…I am here to help…."
Cecilia realized the person speaking to her was different, and he had a calm disposition.
"What! Who are you…?" she spoke hysterically, almost shouting.
"I am a friend of your husband's, Michael…I know what happened…take it easy. He's gone, for now…" the man spoke assuredly.
"Why, what did he want with me…I don't know anything…was Michael murdered…?" she asked hurriedly between sobs.
"I will explain everything on our way. We have to get out of here, now. Are you okay to leave…?" he further explained.
Cecilia took a look at her savior, evaluating him and weighing her chances of surviving in her current predicament then nodded her head.
"I'm okay now. I think I can get out of this forsaken place. I almost died here….!" She hollered bitterly, partly because, there was no help from the hospital staff when her murder attempt was going on. At this point, she was grateful to the man standing close to her, and was willing to take her chances with him at surviving.
The man helped her up from the bed, and allowed her to change into something comfortable out of the hospital robe she was wearing. When she finished, and they were about to leave, Cecilia noticed a baseball cap lying in the middle of the room.
"Is that cap yours..?" she prompted the gentleman about to lead the way out of the hospital room.
"Oh yes! It's mine. Almost forgot, thanks." He responded.
He took the cap from the floor. He readjusted his leather jacket and gave the cap to Cecilia.
"Put this on….this will help you leave unnoticed." He instructed and explained.
Cecilia took the cap and placed it over her hair, pulling her silky hair in a ponytail through the back of the cap.
They made their way through the reception of the hospital unnoticed. As they entered the parked car at the side of the hospital building, she grew worried and asked,
"Where do we go from here?"
"To a safe place, I hope. And My name is Jude, you can call me that if it makes you comfortable."
"Thank you Jude for tonight. You saved my Life. I hope it was no trouble." She said gratefully
"Of course Not. I am indebted to Michael. And it is my Pleasure" Jude, responded.
Cecilia sighed and closed her eyes to savour the moment.
Black hunter, closed his eyes as well to have a moment and then to contemplate on the decision he made to save Mrs. Hershold earlier. Even though, he had derailed his mission not to interfere, he felt more driven at this point knowing there was something wrong somewhere. And he had to make a decision to get to the bottom of this.
He started the car, and seeing that Cecilia was comfortable with him at this point, he was pleased. He looked straight ahead and drove away from the hospital into the night.
