Chereads / My Husband Turned Against Me / Chapter 16 - Attendant

Chapter 16 - Attendant

Who would come at night?

After Lin Luo took off the bolt, the door was roughly pushed open from the outside and many bailiffs in government uniforms rushed in.

The bailiffs ignored Lin Luo and rushed into the house to search.

However, there was nothing much to look through. Other than the abundance of pots and pans room, the other rooms in Lin Luo's house were empty.

Everything could be seen at a glance.

Lin Luo stood in the courtyard as she watched the group of uninvited servants with a cold look in her eyes.

"Did you see any pirates fleeing this way?" A bailiff came over and asked.

Lin Luo combed her hair as she said, "If pirates had really come, I'm afraid you guys won't be seeing me right now."

The bailiffs glanced at the birthmark on Lin Luo's face and laughed.

"You're quite confident."

"Let's go to the next house to search!"

After Lin Luo walked out with the bailiffs, she narrowed her eyes ass he watched them walk towards Yan Su's home.

She took out something and threw it behind the slope. A few seconds later, thick smoke rose from behind the slope, followed by sudden sparks that flew into the sky.

The bailiffs became flustered. "What's that sound?"

"Could it be an enemy attack?"

"It's coming from behind the hill!"

"You two, go take a look."

Of the four bailiffs, two walked towards the back of the slope, while two stayed put.

"Sir, are there pirates around here?" Lin Luo snuck behind a servant in fear, then she took off his hat and put it on her head. "I'm so afraid. You guys have to protect me."

The bailiff, whose hat had been taken off, was exasperated. "Ugly girl, give me back my hat!"

Lin Luo sneered to herself and threw his hat onto a withered tree branch that was three times taller than a person.

"You!" The guard was dumbfounded.

Lin Luo said, "You're scaring me. I didn't do it on purpose."

"I have a ladder at my house. Come with me and I'll bring you to the ladder. You can take off your hat with the ladder."

"Screw you. I actually met such an ugly troublemaker." The bailiff ignored Lin Luo and went to climb the tree.

Another bailiff waved at Lin Luo and said, "Go away. Looking at you will give me nightmares. Don't get in the way here."

"But I'm really afraid." Lin Luo blinked desperately to show her fear.

"Are you leaving or not? If not, I'll beat you up!"

Only then did Lin Luo retreat 'reluctantly'. While the bailiff was distracted, Lin Luo took his belt away.

After returning to her courtyard, Lin Luo threw the belt into the trash can.

Then, she heard the exasperated voice of the bailiff outside. "That bastard took my belt?!"

Lin Luo pursed her lips and chuckled.

There was a price to pay for calling her ugly.

Not long after, the two bailiffs who had gone to the back of the slope returned. They were covered in black ash and their hair was charred. When they spoke, a cluster of black smoke came out of their mouths.

"There was a strange firecracker with sparks. We just picked it up when it suddenly blew up!"

"We're really unlucky. Not only do we have to carry out a mission in the middle of the night, but we also suffered this sort of thing."

"Alright, stop complaining. Hurry up and investigate the last home. Then, we'll go back."

Lin Luo climbed to the top of the wall and watched the bailiffs walk towards the entrance of the Yan Su's house. Just as they were about to approach the door, they suddenly screamed and fell into the big hole.

"That bastard dug a trap!!!" A few exasperated roars came from the hole.

"Help!"

Lin Luo waited for Yan Su to come out of the house before slowly walking over.

Yan Su was talking to the bailiffs with his head lowered.

"Buddy, help pull us out. There's water down here. It's very wet." The servants' attitudes became gentle.

Yan Su looked around and asked with a frown, "Why is there a trap at my door?"

"How did you guys fall into the trap?"

"We wanted to ask you that. Didn't you dig this trap?" the bailiffs asked.

Yan Su shook his head.

Lin Luo came over. "Why did you guys fall?"

"I didn't do it on purpose—no, I definitely didn't dig a trap in front of his house because this guy owed me money. I definitely didn't do it. You have to believe me."

The bailiffs were speechless.

So that was it.

They didn't deserve this.

After Yan Su and Lin Luo found ropes to pull the bailiffs out, they were already drenched.

"Thank you. Otherwise, there's no telling when we would have been rescued." The few bailiffs didn't have a good attitude towards the culprit, Lin Luo, but they were much more amiable when they spoke to Yan Su.

"By the way, did you see any suspicious people appear? For example, pirates."

Yan Su shook her head.

He invited a few bailiffs into the house and let them sit around the charcoal basin to warm up. Then, he boiled hot water.

The bailiffs left after drying their clothes. Before they left, they even advised Yan Su earnestly, "As the old saying goes, women and villains are the most difficult to deal with. Why don't you consider moving elsewhere?"

With that, the bailiffs looked towards Lin Luo's courtyard.

"She's young, but ugly and ruthless."

Yan Su was speechless.

"We're leaving now. We'll remember your kindness today. If you need anything in the future, look for us at the government office." The bailiffs waved their hands and left.

Yan Su returned to the big hole in front of the door and stood there for a long time.

The hole could accommodate five people. It was about three meters deep and filled with water.

Who did this? Why didn't he know anything about it when he was in the room?

Was it Lin Luo?

No, that was impossible. She was just a tiny girl.

After Yan Su returned to the living room and entered the underground space, his buddies asked Yan Su, "Master, have the officials left?"

"They're gone."

"As expected of Master, you instantly gained the trust of those officials!"

"If not for you, I'm afraid we would have been discovered already."

Everyone was happy and relaxed.

After avoiding this search, they would have some time to catch their breath. After they recovered from their injuries, they wouldn't be afraid of the officials anymore.

Yan Su pursed his lips and remained silent.

On the other side, Lin Luo threw her tools back into the empty space outside the farmer's market and walked to the notice board.

Seeing the notice on the notice board slowly turn into dust, Lin Luo smiled.

The next morning, when Lin Luo was taking a walk by the sea, she saw a person on the beach.

It was a living person, but he wasn't far from death.

He was on the brink of death.

When Lin Luo saw the mottled scars on the old man's face, she turned to leave.

Before long, she returned.

"You better be able to pay the medical fees," Lin Luo muttered to herself as she dragged him back to her house.
