When Scott came back from work, he was welcomed by the beautiful aroma coming from the kitchen. He immediately tiptoed to the room to freshen up. Scott went to the kitchen and saw his wife and mother preparing dinner. he greeted and complimented them.
"good evening oo. welldone. I just couldn't rest because the aroma is....captivating"
"welcome my dear. how was work?"his mother asked.
"work was fine Mama" he replied.
"sweetie just go to the parlour, food will be ready soon"Ivy said.
"okay oo if you say so" Scott replied.
Food was ready. It was poundo yam and vegetable soup. They all ate and went to bed.
*** the next day, Ivy's mother visited them. it was on a weekend so she was opportuned to meet Scott at home. Scott was the head master of a school in their area even though he had a higher qualification. Ivy was also at home as expected. Scott's mother had gone home to take care of her husband.
Ivy's mother went straight to the point, asking of the plans for the naming ceremony of their baby.
"what are the plans you guys have for my grandchild's naming ceremony?"
"Nothing much Mama .it's going to be a parlour ceremony so we are not inviting many people just myself and my wife, the pastor, my parents, you and some siblings" Scott said.
"so what are we cooking? Is it jollof rice, or fried rice or semovita which one?"
"Mama none oo 😔. I and my husband have decided that we will share biscuits and zobo for those that will be there. then I will make small rice and stew with some meats for the pastor " Ivy answered
"what!! you must be joking. how dare u plan my first grandchild's naming in such a poor way. Now listen carefully, that rubbish you planned will never happen. I have my own plans. it will be done in this compound. the money I was keeping with a thrift collector, I will collect it. it should be up to fifty thousand naira and I'm sure it will be enough for everything we want to do" Ivy's mother said bringing relief to the mind of the couple.
"thank you Mama" . The couple said with happiness.
"so we are going to prepare jollof rice and chicken for everyone who is going to be present at the naming.is that okay by you two?" Mama asked
"yes ma. we are okay with it 😊".
"thank you so much Mama .I am very grateful to God for giving me a wonderful mother-in-law like you."Scott added.
"you are welcome my son and thank God also for giving me a son like you" Mama said.
"ahhh Mama am I the child here or Scott?".ivy asked jokingly.
"I don't know you oo. I only know a son named Scott. I don't even know anyone bearing ivy".Mama answered.
"maybe you should hold on to your son then" ivy said.
"jealousy jealousy 😂. my one and only daughter. Any other daughter is a counterfeit my one and only Ivy. do not be annoyed, you all are my children" Mama said.
"I know mama. thank you" Ivy said.
"you are welcome my daughter"mama replied.
"so mama what would you like to eat" Ivy asked.
"any thing you give me, my daughter"mama answered.
"okay. just twenty minutes and food will be ready" Ivy said.
"so mama you are staying overnight right"Scott asked
"Yes my dear. I want to spend some time with my cute grandchild" she said carrying baby Azuka in her arms.
**** The next day mama was ready to go home when Scott's mother came in.
"ah ah my in-law welcome" Ivy's mother said.
"thank you ma. it seems you are about to go home" Scott's mother said.
"yes oo" mama replied.
"ok oo"Scott's mother said.
The afternoon of the same day Scott's mother told them about her savings which she collected to add to whatever they could raise for the naming ceremony.
"my children, take this sixty thousand naira. It is the savings that I collected from my thrift collector. You should add it to whatever you can raise from your end to provide at least two varieties of food"Scott's mother said.
Scott collected the money from her and told her how Ivy's mother also provided fifty thousand.
"Mum thank you. Mama also gave us fifty thousand for the naming ceremony and am sure #110,000 is enough money to fund a big party for our baby." Scott said.
"thanks so much Mama ❤️" Ivy added.
"you are welcome my children"Scott's mother said.

The day finally came. the couple were happy, family and friends were all invited. they prepared jollof rice and fried rice with chicken and then semovita for the pastors and the choir group.
The naming ceremony went well and the baby names were; Esther, Iris, Itohan and pelumi Azuka.
