Fey, Draco and Jorgund had gathered early in the morning before first light. I had been there a few minutes before so I could set a standard.
"Jorgund, your our scout for the duration of the mission. Lead the way and guide us with the map. Understood?" I started giving out orders.
"On it." Jorgund replied.
"Draco, you'll be vanguard with with me and we will lead any attacks if they come to pass." Draco puffed out his chest with pride.
"Where else would you have put me rookie, haha!"
I ignored him and carried out my orders.
"Fey, you will be support and if necessary join attacks with full force."
"Yes sir!" She mocked me.
"This is going to be longer than I initially thought." I said inwardly while looking at the group of people before me.
"Alright, let's go!"
Our group set off shortly after with Jorgund leading us with a map in his hand. We circulated mana in our bodies and augmented ourselves so our running speed was faster than a regular human by quite a bit.
"So Sigmund, tell me about yourself. Why were you and your brother camped out in the forest?" Draco asked me,
I guess he took this as an opportunity to get to know more about me.
"Well, I don't know. We were orphaned at birth apparently. But it's never made sense; how could we survive in the wood as babies. It's like a huge portion of my memories have been removed and I just gained consciousness in the great wood with my brother.
We already had basic information about how to survive in our heads and some attack spells. It makes no sense and it makes for an underwhelming story."
Draco ran in silence for a bit. He may not look like the type, but he had done extensive research into magic and one of the topics was dream magic. It came from the 10 great families that wield true magic. The dream mages used to work as maids, midwife's and butlers for the other great families.
One of their abilities was memory manipulation. It is a very tricky process and it takes an excellent mage to accomplish but that was the only conclusion that Draco could come too.
"You know, I don't think what happened to you was a coincidence." Draco finally spoke.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Well you and your brother wield true magic, so you must be descendants of the 10 great families. And midwife's of the great 10 were dream mages; dream mages are capable of memory manipulation.
There are too many coincidences for this not to be the reality. Your memories were removed for some reason Sigmund."
Is what he says true? We had never been able to find out the truth about the 10 great families as we lived in the wood.
If what he says is true, then everything would make sense. How me and Magni get visions every now and again.
"It seems like the spell is weakening." Draco added.
But…why would they remove our memories, for what purpose does that serve. What was it that we couldn't see?"
"Thank you Draco, that makes sense." I replied. I hadn't realised I hadn't spoke for a while as I was lost in thought.
"It's alright, your situation is very interesting to say the least. You know…when we get back, I could help you find out the truth if you'd like." This was out of character for Draco so it felt odd to say.
Truth was, Draco had been affected by the Sun that was Sigmund. His aura and energy felt so comforting people would willingly want to put themselves around him. He was the Sun and his friends and family were planets orbiting him constantly.
"Yeah, that'd be nice my friend."
Sigmund had called him a friend for the first time. Draco had offered to help him out and shed light on a situation embedded in darkness, how could he not be moved.
"Good because I will gladly revoke my offer…friend." Draco reciprocated my sentiment.
The two new friends ran into the morning sunset.
*Magni's POV"
"What! Sigmund got a mission? And he's the team captain?" Magni shouted at Orsted.
"Hey kid, relax. Your time will come, they gave him an intermediate mission so it's not like it'll be hard. Probably bandits. You are training with the elite members and at your current strength you could lead a intermediate mission as well.
Your nearly ready for your first mission in the elite class too, so just calm down kid."
Magni had felt greatly offended that Sigmund had received a mission and didn't inform him.
The nerves from the night before had made him entirely forget to tell Magni but he didn't know that and nor was the hot headed teen ready to listen to excuses.
"I have to get stronger!" He confided in himself.
"Orsted, I'm ready to spar. Give me someone strong." Magni gathered his resolve.
"Are you sure? Your strong but strong in the elite division is something…else." Orsted asked genuinely worried for his students safety.
"Yes, I'm ready. I'll show you the fighting style I devised myself, with bloody knuckles and resolve as steady as a mountain."
"Good words kid, I'll oblige. Erik! Come here, you'll spar the kid." Orsted called out to a man around my height. He had a staff by his side and long brown hair.
"A staff user? This might be difficult; I've never fought one before." Magni muttered.
"This is what you asked for, and this might actually make a good fight."
"Sir, I'll be fighting him?" Erik looked at me with visible distain.
"Underestimate him and you'll be in the infirmary before you can even think. Don't get cocky, I've told you a million times."
"Yes sir." It was clear his opinions wouldn't be changed that easily.
"Kid, do you want me to use my magic as well? I will not hold back or pull punches." He looked down on me greatly.
"I definitely have to break at least two bones in this bastards body!" I thought while clenching my teeth.
I ignored his question and assumed my fighting stance.
"I'll take that as a no. Prepare for a world of hurt."
"…"
