Chapter 51 - 51. Real or fake victim?

Hearing this Tanmoy furrowed his brows, looked at the girl and said "Miss, breaking overlooking signals, overspeeding and running over passers-by is a serious crime. I would ask you to tell the truth. Else you might have to spend quite a few years in prison." His tone was mild but serious. The girl slowly raised her eyes hearing a sophisticated voice. In this squabble, she did not think any well-mannered person would come.

Tanmoy lost his voice for a few seconds when his eyes met with a pair of brown eyes. They were like forest wood. Fresh and strong, experienced many slashes of the axe but is still standing tall. The sun's rays illuminated her ganache-like skin. The white shirt was a contrast to her dark skin but it also complimented her style. Tanmoy felt that the girl's stare was too piercing and it seemed like she was reading what was going on in his mind with those teak wood-coloured orbs. But he was just puzzled by how the mere gaze of a little girl could be so domineering.

The girl's expression did not change. But her words shocked Tanmoy "You're a lawyer. Are you planning to fight for that man?" She pointed her chin at the old man. She did not ask whether he was a lawyer but stated it. And she also guessed that he was thinking of fighting for that man. That also within a few seconds. He could not complete his thoughts as he heard her speak again "Are you sure I'm the guilty one? You won't regret it right?" Again. She guessed his motive too. Tanmoy felt that the suru was getting out of hand. He always managed to stay in control of his surroundings but now he could not figure out this person at all yet she seemed to have read like an open book.

Today he was wearing an oversized t-shirt and ripped jeans. Polar opposite to his usual formal clothes. His hair was in fringe up style. It was obviously Ankita who forced him to dress this way. So it was very difficult to guess he was a lawyer by profession. Keeping his thoughts aside he decided to reply first. "I will support the victim. And in this situation, you don't seem to be the victim at all. Someone got so badly hurt by your car but you did not even ask if he was alright let alone take him to the hospital for treatment." He said the last part bitterly. He hated to see how cruel humankind has become.

"Him? He ain't worth my money or attention. These tramps utterly disgust me." She said with a sneer. Her eyes also expressed visible disgust. Tanmoy frowned. "He's an elder. Please speak with respect. Although you should respect everyone regardless of their age." The girl scoffed and tilted her head a little before looking at the man with mockery and said "Yo elder! Need treatment?" Hearing her the surrounding people began to reprimand her again. This time for such an attitude towards an old injured man.

The old man lowered his head and shook his head. Everyone could see his trembling hands. Tanmoy sighed and helped him up. "Grandpa, let me take you to the hospital." He said. "No need my child. You're a good person. May God bless you. Just help me pick up the cycle. I still have several newspapers to sell." He put his trembling hand on Tanmoy's head. "But you're badly hurt. You need treatment. Old-age wounds take a long to heal. You should rest now." Tanmoy said. The man looked at the girl sadly and said "I'm sorry miss for disrupting your journey. I'll compensate you. No matter what." He choked as he spoke.

The murmuring grew stronger again. "Poor man. He's already so poor yet he is saying he would compensate them." "That girl is so vicious. She should be the one paying." "Not only is she cruel but also rude and heartless." "I bet she was the one who told the driver to speed." Various comments rose from the crowd. Suddenly someone shouted "Why would you compensate her? She should pay you for hurting you so much." "Yes. Yes." "You're right." Many people supported that person.

"It's getting boring. I wanna go home." She straightened up and said to the driver. "Ok, young miss." He said respectfully and got inside the car. She strode up to the man and turned to Tanmoy who was holding him. "You want me to compensate? To whom? A fraud?" saying that she ripped off the false beard and wig set off the man. Suddenly there was pin-drop silence. Everything happened so fast that no one got time to react.

After a moment only gasps could be heard. Before everyone stood a young man in his mid-twenties. He had an ugly frown on his face. He swiftly moved his right hand to his back. Tanmoy also did not expect such a turn of events and his grip on the man had thus loosened. He used this chance to draw a knife from his back.

He pointed it at the girl and said "Let me leave. Else you'll face the wrath of my knife." He started backing away slowly.
