In Japan, Ruby didn't feel the same joy she had in Taiwan. It was obvious that this was due to Eva Lee's presence, which she found disruptive to her moments with her stepson, Vince Hong.
Moreover, Ruby was often left behind by her husband, Ben Hong, due to his business matters.
This resulted in her spending time with River in the hotel room, or having to tag along with Vince Hong and Eva Lee as they went sightseeing around Tokyo.
