Nash's [POV]
"What time do you want me to take you back tomorrow?"
My tone's unintentionally harsh. I'm distracted. My body's settled down, but my mind's still on Mikey. Hearing Sam talks about his buddy who died in Vietnam brought it all back up for me with a ferocity that I haven't felt for a while.
Elle's head snaps up to look at me.
"Uh, maybe you shouldn't take me back," she says slowly. "I can call a car service or something."
"No, Elle. I'm sorry. My mind's on something else. That came out wrong."
She puts her hand on my arm. "I know. It's fine, but really, maybe it's not a good idea."
"What?" I stop walking. "No, I'm taking you back."
"It's just you know if Steve's still in the apartment, it's going to be weird"
"He'll get over it." I put my hands on her shoulders and pull her closer. "I don't want you alone with him after what I witnessed last night."
