Jess couldn't afford to panic at this moment. If she did, the only fate that awaited her would be death. Fortunately, Shadow's assassin had no intention of attacking her immediately; otherwise, she would have already died. 'He isn't sure of my identity, so he's wondering whether to get rid of me immediately or not. He's probably hoping to get a bit of information out of me before deciding if I'm a person he must murder or not.'

'Actually, he might even try to immobilize me to get information out of me.'

'Although this last option was unlikely since assassins are obviously specialized in killing, not capturing. Even the assassin would not take the risk of trying to imprison an unknown enemy without fully understanding her threat level.'

'However, there is no benefit for me in him being careful if I don't have a way to win out of this situation alive.'
