Chereads / My Kingdom Building System / Chapter 43 - Prison Break (1)

Chapter 43 - Prison Break (1)

Harley entered the prison, and the two guards closed the door behind him.

Harley walked down a large corridor surrounded by prison cells on both sides.

"AGhhhhh!"

"Please kill me!"

Screams came from the direction Harley was going in. The screams echoed through the whole prison, sending chills down the bones.

Harley assumed that Guard No.1 was at the source of the screams, so he continued walking in the direction of the screams.

As he walked, he threw a glance inside one cell.

"Fu.ck!" He immediately turned his head away.

His stomach turned upside down at the sight he saw. Inside the cell was a half-dead man. They had tortured him so much that the wounds on his body did not have time to heal, and due to the unhygienic environment in the prison, his wounds started rotting.

"Please forgive me!" The screams continued.

Straining his eyes, Harley noticed that Guard No.1 stood before a cell at the end of the corridor.

"Gilbert!" Harley shouted, fastening his pace.

Guard No.1 turned toward Harley, a slight smile spread on his face as he saw his friend.

Harley quickly reached Guard No.1 and stood next to him.

"How did you enter here?" Guard No.1 asked, turning his gaze back to the cell.

Harley followed his gaze and also looked at the cell. Again, he almost instantly turned his head away.

Inside the cell were two men torturing the man that sold Nolan out.

The man was on his knees, tied with chains to the wall, unable to move while the two men whipped him.

He only had shorts on his lower body, while his upper body was covered in blood. His muscular upper body had hundreds of light cuts and a few deep cuts created by the strong whips.

"Let's get out of here," Harley suggested.

Guard No.1 nodded, and they started walking up the corridor toward the exit of the prison.

"Brutus brought me here," Harley replied to Guard No.1's previous question.

"Where is he?"

"Sighhh," Harley sighed deeply and proceeded to tell Guard No.1 everything.

"It's like this..."

...

Ten minutes later, Harley had finished explaining everything that happened. Including Nolan's arrest and where Brutus had gone.

Halfway through the explanation, Guard No.1 and Harley had reached the exit of the prison and left outside.

Guard No.1 agreed to break into the prison to take Nolan out. Now, they stood in front of the prison, waiting for Brutus to arrive.

As they waited, they worked out the plan for breaking into the prison in more detail.

...

Half-hour later.

One by one, eleven carriages parked before the prison.

"Get in!" Brutus screamed from the leading carriage.

Harley and Guard No.1 entered the carriage, and the coachmen started the carriages, their destination, the South Prison of Womvale City.

...

Inside the carriage.

Harley and Guard No.1 sat on one passenger seat, next to each other. While Brutus sat on the other passenger seat.

"How many men did you mobilize?" Guard No.1 asked.

"Excluding us, fifty," Brutus replied.

"Good, good!" Guard No.1 nodded. "Estimated by our speed, we will arrive near the prison at sunset. When we arrive there, we will first examine the surroundings of the prison, and then, later in the night, we will attack."

Brutus and Harley nodded in agreement.

...

A few hours later, the carriages stopped. The sun had just started going down, and they had arrived at the area near the prison.

Everyone got out of the carriages.

They found themselves in the middle of an abandoned street. Around 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) from them stood a massive building. The prison.

The prison was at least a three-story tall building. It was surrounded by five meters (16 feet) tall stone walls, protecting it from intruders.

In a radius of 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) from the prison, everything was abandoned. All the buildings were in ruins, and not a single person walked on the streets.

"That is the prison." Brutus pointed.

Harley smiled. "This is better than expected. No, it can not be better than this," he said. "Since no one wants to live near a prison, the area around the prison is abandoned. It will not be hard to launch a sneak attack on the prison."

"I agree with you," Guard No.1 said. "However, we still need to scout the prison."

"Then the moment the night falls, I and you will scout the prison," Harley said.

...

The time passed quickly, and the night fell.

"It is time," Guard No.1 said. He walked over to a pair of horses pulling a carriage and unattached the horse from the carriage.

He got on one horse, and Harley got on the other.

"Go!" They both gently kicked the horses with their leg, and the horses started moving forward, toward the prison.

Riding the horses, Guard No.1 and Harley stormed through the abandoned streets at full speed.

It did not take them long before they arrived 200 meters (218 yards) from the prison.

After leaving the horses in one abandoned building, they carefully walked towards the prison.

Dark clouds covered the sky, so the night was dark.

The area around the prison was not well lighted, the only lit place outside the prison was the gate of the stone walls surrounding the prison.

The gate was guarded by two guards, so Guard No.1 and Harley could not investigate further.

After making sure that no one patrolled the area around the prison and only two guards guarded the gate, Harley and Guard No.1 walked back to the horses and then returned back to the place where Brutus and the other men waited for them.

"How is it?" Brutus asked.

"Because of the stone walls around the prison, we did not find much. But we discovered that no one patrols the area, and there are only two guards guarding the gate of the stone walls." Guard No.1 said. "This means only one thing. They do not have enough men to patrol the area outside the prison."

A wide smile spread on Brutus's face. "Everyone!" He shouted. "Let's go!"

After he entered the carriage, the rest of the men also entered the carriages. Soon, all eleven carriages were full, and they set toward the prison.

...

A half-hour later, the carriages stopped 100 meters (110 yards) from the prison.

Everyone got out of the carriages.

"Is everyone ready?" Brutus asked, taking the oil lamp out of the carriage.

"YES, SIR!" The men shouted simultaneously.

"Hahaha!" Brutus laughed. "Take this then!" He took out of the carriage a few unlit torches and threw them to the nearby men.

Pam!

After lighting the torches, he threw the oil lap on the ground.

"Guard No.1, please take the command," Brutus said.

Guard No.1 nodded. "Brothers!" He shouted. "Draw your swords!"

The men immediately obeyed and drew out their swords.

"Charge!" Guard No.1 shouted, taking the lead in running toward the prison.

"Aghhhhh!" The men screamed as they charged toward the prison.

...

"What is happening?" Hearing the screams, the guard guarding the gate on the stone walls asked.

"I don't know!" The other guard said, panicked.

They did not know what was going on. In the darkness, they could not see anything. The only thing visible to them were the lit torches.

As Guard No.1 and his men got closer, the panic disappeared from the prison guards' faces and was replaced by fear.

"T-The-They are attacking the prison!" The guard shouted after seeing dozens of dark silhouettes approaching.

"We are going to die!" The other guard shouted.

Swoosh!

PAM!

A great axe spun in the air toward the guard who just spoke, hitting him right in the head, instantly killing him.

"Hahahah!" Brutus laughed. "I got one!"

"BRUTUS!" Harley roared angrily. "Don't kill them. They are just doing their job. They also have families to feed!"

Brutus's smile vanished as he turned toward Harley. "Sorry Harley, but that is not how it works. If I don't kill them, they will kill me. That's how it works."

They have all reached the gate.

Brutus picked up his great axe.

"Don't kill me!" The guard screamed in despair.

Swoosh!

Brutus swung his heavy axe, beheading the man in an instant.

"BRUTUS!" Harley shouted furiously.

Guard No.1 and the other fifty men tore down the gate and continued advancing deeper into the prison, but Harley and Brutus remained in front of the gate.

"Harley, if you hesitate like this when killing people, sooner or later, you will die!" Brutus shouted.

"I do not hesitate to kill people who deserve to die, but the two guards you just killed are innocent." Harley's blood boiled at this moment. "They also have families to take care of. You killed them. What if their families starve to death? What if..."

"There is no, What IF!" Brutus shouted, interrupting Harley. "I know they are innocent, but I also know, if I gave them the opportunity, they would have killed me.

Harley, if when you kill people, you think about how the family and the friends of the deceased would feel and what will happen to them, in the end, you will not be able to step on even an ant.

Before thinking about them, think about yourself and your family first.

Although I don't have a family, I still have the responsibility to protect the hundreds of people of the Black Rose organization, so I can't die. I would rather kill hundreds of innocents than let them kill me."

After finishing his speech, Brutus took his great axe and stormed toward the depths of the prison.
