Chapter 1 - Chapter #1: The enigmatic killer.

Drug deals, robbery, murder, forgery, and other types of crimes always happen in this damned place filled with nothing but wolves in sheep's clothing. In 2017, murder has been going quite high lately. Accusations, fake identities, and misleading information were happening at the same time. Much to my annoyances, it's upsetting to hear how blind people can be in this unruly world.

My name is Freddie Johnvarston, a 37-year-old man with a wife and daughter. I can't say our lives are faithful; we divorced two years ago, and she took my daughter away. All I can do is pray for my daughter's safety while I'm working.

Working as a detective ain't easy, but I managed to break through. To be perfectly honest, I'm quite in trouble dealing with one person I find very challenging. The masked killer. That damn maniac has been all over the news.

"Found something, Fred?" Eddie, my assistant, has been helping ever since I started working. I owed him a lot and acknowledged him as my true partner.

We're in an abandoned building with no one around, it was an apartment building with zero people living inside. We recognized it was strange from the switched on light, and we discovered a new leading case for this son of a bitch. The building was left for months.

"Not yet, it's too damn smart; it erased all its footprints along the way," I said while repeatedly slowly stomping the creaking floor. The masked killer's identity is still unknown, so we called it "it".

The clues were too off for me to even read its movements.

There's a story behind my carelessness—that damn cockroach tricked me seven times, and this will be the last time.

"Fred! I think I found something!" Eddie shouted at me, hurrying to tell me about something he found.

a small exit to escape from the building. A trapdoor was found by Eddie.

"Don't be fooled, Ed. This is the killer who wants us to believe it escaped through there. I've found nine or eight ways it might have escaped, and there's no way in hell that it escaped without a decoy." I confidently believe that the killer tricked poor Ed. One small mistake can lead to guilt, and I can't let that happen.

"Unless..." I kicked a random wall and the secret door was smashed and the dust exploded. I know there was a secret door by telling the difference of a wall, a secret door will have more sound when knocking than of a wall.

"It wants us to leave without finding out what it's hiding." The secret door's contents were filled with weaponry.

"Guns, a lot of 'em. Should we inform the commissioner?"

"Not yet. Not until we found all the evidence we need." We can't be sure of it yet, even though it's crucial evidence, there has to be something more vital information that we need."

"Right!" Eddie nodded and rushed behind my back, investigating.

After 3 minutes of searching, we couldn't find a damn single trace of it. Nothing but guns we just discovered.

"Hey, uhh, Fred. I don't think it's normal for someone to walk alone in the alley at night." Eddie tapped my shoulder while pointing at the window.

Eddie tapped my shoulder while pointing at the window.

A hooded man seems clueless as he walks towards the building with his hands in two of his hand pockets.

"IT'S HIM, THE KILLER!" I shouted and ran outside to chase the killer.

It was only a few seconds after he noticed us that he walked straight to the secret entrance I'd found. One question remains in my head. If he had escaped, why would he go back? He left in a hurry, knowing we had arrived. His walk seemed odd; his whole movement felt like he was hiding something. It has to be it. He's the killer!

I rushed and hustled towards the killer as he ran away from me.

"Get back here!" I yelled my lungs out, my voice echoing throughout the empty main street.

He's fast—very damn fast! I couldn't catch up."

I shouldn't have smoked a lot at my age, but I don't give a damn and forced myself to tackle that killer.

As I chased him, Eddie came to me with his car. I entered, and we drove, chasing the killer.

The killer had his motorbike parked on the side of the road, and we both chased his rat-ass tail.

"After finally, years after years, we found the killer, eh?" Eddie talked while driving.

"Wait! He's stopping!" I ordered Eddie to hit the brakes at once after the killer stopped and ran to the alley again.

I chased after him and surveyed the whole area. He couldn't have gone far, but how is he good at bamboozling people?

I tracked him down, hoping he was trapped by a dead end. I lit my cigarette while surveying the area.

His traces are a bit messy; it's hard to tell if he's trying to fool me or if he's drunk. That can't be right; he drove excellently without showing any sign of being drunk.

After some time of investigation, I found that killer. It was too dark to tell his appearance. He saw me and tried to run, but I quickly tackled him and pushed him down to the ground. As quickly as I could, I pulled out my gun and aimed it at him.

"Wait, don't shoot!" He cries out, begging me to not shoot.

"You're the killer?" I questioned him.

"You got the wrong man, he got me this hoodie. I'm just a homeless man who's trying to live my life, man." He informed me of some guy who gifted him a hoodie, realizing he tricked me for the eighth time.

*Bang* a loud sound coming from behind me. A gunshot.

"Eddie! EDDIE!" I shouted Eddie's name.

"EDDIE! WHERE ARE YOU?! EDDIE!!!" I tried to find him the best I can, but he wasn't in the car.

Until that night...

Rain starts dropping and I found Eddie's body on the ground with puddles of blood...
