Chapter 9 - chapter 9

A/N: There seems to be total confusion in Vali Lucifer's looks. So I will post it here.

A/N: I won't be posting new chapters for the next four days.

After leaving, Eric went back to the dormitory.

In addition, when he was making his way back, he could vaguely sense the seemingly distant gaze in a few other places, as if somebody were stalking him or something.

But he was uncertain, and he dared not confirm it because of his uncertainty. This sensation went away as soon as I checked back into the dorm.

"If I had guessed correctly, the guy monitoring me should have been Captain's arrangement," he said. "If I had guessed correctly."

Eric was deep in thought as he contemplated in his heart.

He did not despise Marsilio because of this, but he did strongly support the strategy that Marsilio advocated.

In his capacity as the division's torturer and captain, he is accountable for ensuring that there are no issues inside his section.

Even more so, taking into consideration the fact that Eric is still experienced despite the fact that he should not be aware of many things. It makes perfect sense in every way.

Eric had witnessed these sights that are stored in Marsilio's recollection of the past.

Eric was not concerned about being probed even though everyone else in his division was required to go through multiple screenings.

The more thoroughly you investigate, the more he will be able to demonstrate that he does not have any issues.

If this were the case, remaining in the medical section would be a safer option for him. But at that moment, Eric had a specific idea pop into his head.

Memory that he had previously read as well as the system

If they read his memories, would anyone notice that they did it?

(Scene Change)

Eric hastened his pace as he headed in the direction of the medical department.

He received yet another call, and it has already been two days since he last saw Arthur.

He quickened his pace and continued walking.

Within the main building of the headquarters was located a unique section known as the medical division.

On weekdays, the members were on standby, and no one was allowed to spend an excessive amount of time in the cramped, medical chamber.

Soon after, Eric arrived at the dimly lit room that belonged to the medical section.

What set apart this occasion from others was the fact that...

More than ten children were lined up in a row on the straw mat that was laid out on the floor of the little room that was mostly dark.

Everyone there appeared to be no older than seven or eight years old at the most. These little children were all unconscious and appeared to be in a critical condition; their skin appeared blackened, and it appeared as though they had been burned.

On their limbs, there were obvious signs of very horrific third-degree wounds.

"I see that you have arrived, Eric." Marsilio emerged from the shadows while still dressed in the same dark trench coat that had been worn by generations of soldiers before him.

His gaze was fixed on Eric's physique, and it appeared as though he was compassionate through his eyes.

"Have you gotten enough rest this time around?"

Concerned, Marsilio requested for clarification.

"Yes!" Eric nodded and said

"I overworked you at one point in the past, and that holiday was a reward for your hard work; however, getting time off will not be as simple in the future." Marsilio stated in a low voice.

"I am prepared."

Eric said it firmly. He was unable to hold off any longer.

His power will increase more quickly and substantially if more people read it.

"Since I admire your demeanour so much, I won't waste too much time with meaningless small talk and will instead inform you about this assignment." Marsilio gazed intently at Eric as he stood there.

During this period, he conducted a thorough investigation of Eric's history and background.

He was an orphan who had grown up in the region of Wales. Before joining the Khaos Brigade, he had never travelled further than the borders of his home country of Wales.

Since Eric joined the [Hero faction], he has only ventured outside of the compound once, when he visited Isami's curry shop.

Only Arthur Pendragon and Morgan le Fay were able to communicate with him directly at this time.

There was no indication that information was likely to be shared.

He was unable to identify any issues, with the exception of the fact that his physique was fragile.

He is trustworthy!

The most important thing was... Their previous medical staff is becoming increasingly ineffective on a daily basis; they enjoy benefits without putting in much effort, and their power to heal patients is limited.

They have only learned the most fundamental forms of healing magic, and their proficiency has not increased over time either.

However, they have reached the pinnacle of arrogance.

This will not be permitted in any way, shape, or form; if they dare to be proud, he will demonstrate to them that they are easily replaceable.

Eric is a good choice, although it is unfortunate that he is still too weak; he possesses sacred gear and the vision, and healing with sacred gear is always superior to any mundane magic utilised by humans.

However, there is a catch: when compared to those old timers, this youth lacks the necessary level of experience.

On the other hand, one can acquire experience through work!

And Eric is free to take over in this role!

"These kids are the survivors of the second version of the holy sword project."

"When it was first conceived, the Holy Sword Project was a covert endeavour of the Catholic Church, led by Archbishop Valper, to create holy sword wielders through a process of genetic engineering. It was being held in a particular institution in Italy at the time."

"However, the experiment was such a dismal failure that it ended up killing all of the test subjects. However, our intelligence suggests that one of the test subjects managed to survive despite being twisted into a devil."

"However, Archbishop Valper was insane and believed he could achieve success after the project failed and the Catholic Church disbanded it; the Pope noticed Archbishop Valper's insanity, and as a result, the Pope excommunicated Archbishop Valper from the Church and dubbed him the Genocide Archbishop."

"In an effort to get back at the Church for wronging him, he aligned himself with the Fallen Angels and tried the experiment once more; however, the experiment was unsuccessful once more."

"We managed to save a few children; they all seem to have sacred gear, though they have been injured both externally and internally due to the project."

"Your mission is simple: heal them."

Marsilio spoke cleanly about the identity of these individuals in a straightforward and unhesitating manner. In a split second, Eric's pupils shrunk down to a little smaller size.

'The holy sword project? It was carried out once more! Interesting.'

Eric pondered the question as a startled expression flickered in the corner of his eye.

These individuals, some of whom were still children at the time, were handled as though they were lab rats; today, the Hero faction will most likely exploit them as disposable tools.

Fate!

Those who were born in harsh environments had no choice but to accept their fate in life and were powerless to alter their destiny.

He does not know how many of them will make it through to the finish of the tale.

Eric's heart skipped a beat, but he quickly forced it back down to its normal rhythm.

These individuals were doomed to suffer such a destiny, and he was in no way responsible for their misfortune.

If they live, they will continue to live. If they die, then they die. They were to blame for it.

Eric sees them as nothing more than a task to be completed.

"I understand." Eric gave a slight nod but didn't say anything else in response.

"Don't worry about it if you do understand." Marsilio said simply,

"There are ten children in all in this room."

"It is your responsibility to investigate and heal them on the inside and the outside. You are free to spend as much time as you need because it is a laborious task; but, we cannot afford to lose any of it."

Marsilio provided an extremely serious explanation, and Eric was jolted awake by his statements as well.

"I understand."

Eric nodded again.

As his eyes glanced over the ten youngsters who were sleeping on the straw mat, his eyes changed into a cold and distant expression.

'I will heal you, but it is you who will determine whether or not you will live through the future.'

"Now, you can start."

Marsilio spoke in an authoritative manner when he said it.

"Yes."

Following his response, Eric advanced one step and started walking towards the first child on the far left.

Eric walked over to the first child, knelt down next to him, raised his right hand, and began stroking the youngster's forehead in a soothing manner.

Hum! The entirety of Eric's body began to quake slightly. The child's past experiences started to flood his head at that point.

[Ding Dong!]

[You have successfully read the memory! Reward Obtained! Mana has been increased!]

Almost instantly, Eric had the impression that he could access additional Mana and put it to use.

This was distinct from a rise in potential. His existing mana pool expanded as a result of this.

So that wraps it up.

Eric felt it to be true deep down in his heart.

When trying to coax the memory out of someone who is obviously weak.

He won't receive anything noteworthy or powerful in return.

It would merely be a strength or mana boost, which Eric considers to be sufficient.

Eric quickly activated his [Sacred Gear] on his body and began to heal the child. This time, he didn't hold back; instead of utilising his physical energy to use the sacred gear, he used mana because mana could also serve as fuel to use the sacred gear.

While Eric was looking through the child's memories, the wounds miraculously healed themselves in a short time.
