Taking advantage of the beast screeching in pain. C-6-367 rushed in taking out another two legs with continuous gunfire, their plan had yet to change and he was determined to take away it's mobility.
His attacks reminded the creature of his presence causing it to spew out massive amounts of it's venom creating space between them as it charged towards the source of the attack.
Kayla at this point was already racing through the the trees jumping into another tree and getting into position.
*BAM*
Another shot was fired, creating a blinding beam which rushed towards the Centikathropod.
Relying on its speed the creature avoided the attack, and focused on Kayla's new hiding spot. It began to charge once again but flinched and screeched as C-6-367 jumped atop of it and fired into the bloody mess where it's eye once was.
As the creature continued to squirm it sent C-6-367 flying, C-6-367 attempted to hold onto the creature but was unable to apply enough force to penetrate through its carapace.
Sliding further down C-6-367 managed to insert his fingers between segments holding on for dear life, as the massive creature continued to writhe around.
*BAM*
Another blast came from Kayla who has gotten into a new position. The blast went for the beasts underside this time and managed to take a good chunk of it let's in the process.
The creature at this point, assaulted over and over again and experienced untold levels of pain, decisively turned around and began to rush for the mines.
C-6-367 quickly made it to his feet and looked to where the beast was headed. "C-7-401, the Centikathropod is retreating. We can not allow it to get back into those mines."
"Roger that", Kayla's voice resounded I C-6-367's ear as the wind rushed past him. The creatures speed had obviously reduced with the two Gladius continuously attacking it's legs, but it wasn't enough.
The SGR-120 was truly a weapon capable of mass destruction but it wasn't without its flaws. Aside from being rendered basically useless in enclosed spaces, the time needed between attacks was detrimental when against agile opponents.
At the rate the creature was moving, C-6-367 was sure the creature would make it to the mines before C-7-401 took her shot which meant he had to slow it down.
In the next moment, C-6-367 had run up it's body and arrived at its head once more. Pulling out an explosive, he tossed it right before the monster who was but a breath away from the mines.
*kink* BOOM* the explosive went off creating a blinding wall of flames as well as a force which sent the Gladius and the Centikathropod back a few metres.
"Unleashing 30%" Kayla's voice was heard before another blast went off straight into the walls that made the mines entrance. The rocks crumbled and rained down in mere moments, sending up a cloud of dust and sealing the mines.
*Skrekrkeke* Skreeeeeeech* the Centikathropod stared at the sealed mine entrance, seemingly unable to believe the sight before it. Realising now that it's path of retreat was cut off it turned to the source of the attack, to find the one responsible.
In it's line of sight it saw Kayla who was now out in the open with the muzzle of her weapon still smoking.
With the one responsible finally in its sight the creature lost the tiny bit of rationality it still had and charged straight for Kayla. Its claw like appendages moving wildly as though showing a demonstration of what it planned to do to the Gladius once it got her.
*Bang*Bang*Bang* C-6-367 had made his way under the monster and pulled out his rifle and began to fire at the creatures joints.
The Centikathropod felt the pain of more of its legs being destroyed, but managed to ignore it all as its focus was on the Gladius before it. Unwilling to allow her escape once again.
Kayla made no attempts to escape as she merely held her weapon and took in a deep breath.
After taking out dozens of it legs and reducing the creatures mobility to the point where it was almost crawling, C-6-367 took out his pistol and rose it up firing four deafening shots.
*Boom*Boom*Boom*Boom*
The blasts tore through the creature causing it to be torn in half, bathing the Gladius below in its blood. The front half of the Centikathropod didn't have enough legs to support it's movements causing it fall forward with a heavy thud.
The creature let out desperate cries as the inevitability of its death dawned on it.
Kayla who was but a few meters away from the creature stared it in its eye as her weapon released whirring sounds. With a simple pull of the trigger a massive hole tore through the creature.
"Mission accomplished" Kayla muttered as she got up and placed her depowered weapon on her back. Looking to the side she saw C-6-367 who was covered from head to toe in the creature's blood.
C-6-367 stared at the Centikathropod's corpse before nodding at Kayla.
