Bengal mix for famines. It is a sugared rice that gave good results after the Bengal famine of 1943, but less effective for Europeans than for Bengalis due to differences in the usual foods. Adding the common ingredient to the mix made it more palatable to these people and they began to recover.
Some were too weak even to consume the Bengal famine mixture. Intravenous feeding was attempted but abandoned. The SS doctors had used injections to kill prisoners so they were hysterical when they saw that equipment.
