Roan observed his students and saw that everyone was wearing their training uniforms. Seeing this, he nodded with a pleased look. "Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Roan Neus, your Swordsmanship Class professor. Today, I will teach you the fundamentals of Swordsmanship. This will be your guide so that you can maximize your skill in wielding your sword. Please take one sword each." He pointed at a box filled with training swords.
The students complied and they took their own training swords from the box.
Upon closer inspection, the sword given to the students has no sharp edges, but its weight is similar to a standard sword. This was to ensure that they would be familiar with the weight of a real sword.
After everyone got their training swords, Roan grabbed his own sword. "I believe everyone here has already received guidance from their respective families about the basics of Swordsmanship. Some of you might have even learned advanced skillsets and footwork. In short, you guys are already far ahead compared to your peers."
To his words, most of the students nodded their heads. Some revealed confident smiles while others remained silent. They came from the best families so it was a given that they received an education in Swordsmanship before even entering the academy.
"Let me ask you. What is the most important thing in Swordsmanship?" Roan smiled as he asked them. He wasn't good at teaching so he only followed his late trainer's method.
A black-haired young man wearing spectacles raised his hand.
"What's your name?" Roan stared at the young man with a smile.
"Professor, my name is Edward Rizel."
"Alright, Edward. Please answer my previous question."
Edward nodded his head and adjusted his spectacles before answering. "I believe the most important thing about swordsmanship is preparation. There are many swords available for everyone to choose from and they all have varying weights, shapes, and sharpness. The first thing a swordsman needs to do is to prepare themselves to choose which among these swords best suited them. Once they've chosen, they can then learn sword techniques according to their choice…"
'Oh? This kid is quite smart, but I still don't plan on sucking male blood. Gross.' Roan thought to himself.
"Good answer, Edward. Anyone else?" Roan scanned his students and he saw a young lady raising her arm calmly.
"That young lady over there, state your name before giving your answer."
Everyone turned their gazes to the young lady. She has a long golden hair tied in a ponytail and a pair of pointy ears. Her figure looked mature for her age, but no one dared to show any lecherous thoughts. That was because this young woman is the granddaughter of Alliance Leader Bennet Wayne, one of the twelve Divine-Grade fighters of the Alliance!
The Bennet Family has the Royal Bloodline of the Elves and they are one of the major families that stands at the peak of the Alliance.
"My name is Elena Wayne. For me, the most crucial thing in Swordsmanship is the wielder. Any sword will become a strong weapon as long as they have the best wielder. The…" Everyone was captivated by her beautiful voice. She was also able to give a great answer to Roan's question.
Roan stared at her neck the entire time, but no one noticed this. 'I haven't tasted an elf with a royal bloodline…'
Roan removed his gaze from her and asked more questions related to Swordsmanship to his students. After a few more questions, he unsheathed his sword and showed the most common stance. "This stance is widely used…" He demonstrated a sword stance and told his students about his insights. As a Disaster-Grade fighter, his teaching was very valuable to the students and they all listened attentively. They were also surprised by his deep knowledge of the subject and even the other Swordsmanship professors might not possess the same level of understanding as him.
The eyes of the student shone with greater expectation as they looked at Roan. Some male students who were skeptical about him no longer harbored doubts about this young professor.
"Within two months, every one of you will be practicing with each other. You have to integrate what you will learn in the next two months for the coming practical combat. The academy hasn't informed us clearly yet, but all Year 1 students will be sent outside the borders of Umbra City for this practical combat exam. You guys have to be prepared for that so make sure that you won't skip your training." Roan warned his student. The academy has already given a detailed lesson trajectory to the professors about each subject.
Hyland Academy was built to foster elite soldiers for the country. Although the Year 1 students will only be sent to the less dangerous areas, there are still risks of casualties.
The faces of the students turned solemn after hearing his words. The cities of Bertani are enclosed in tall walls, protecting civilians from the danger of the outside world. However, once someone steps out of these walls, there is a high chance of encountering stray Demonoids!
Demonoids are monster-like creatures with ferocious natures. Some Demonoids have lesser intelligence and they tend to be more aggressive. They move in large groups to hunt for their prey and only a few moves alone. These types of Demonoids are called Lesser Demons. Their potential is the weakest among the Demonoids, but they are scattered in large numbers, making them very dangerous.
"If you plan to use a different kind of sword, go to my office and I'll have the academy send you your preferred training swords." Roan stared at his watch and smiled.
"Class dismissed."
