Chapter 31 - Chapter 30 - Noise

A few more people came out of the tents to use the bathroom after that, but nothing special happened.

As I heard the second beep both me and Rio yawned, our night watch was over.

"I'll go wake them up, add another piece of wood please."

"Okay!"

I headed to the tent and tapped Taku and Ayaka on the shoulder.

"Hey."

Barely able to open his eyes, Taku made some sort of undistinguishable noise.

"mhnhm."

"It's your turn."

Taku rose up still drifting in and out of consciousness.

Ayaka woke up way easier than he did.

After we told them everything they needed to know, Rio and I went back to the tent and slept.

---

Waking up a few hours later, I could see the forest start to get brighter.

Ayaka, Taku and Rio were still asleep, so I left the tent quietly.

There was only one other person awake, it was Kazu. He had taken on the last watch of the night.

I went over to him, and we were both sitting around the still-burning campfire.

"Morning."

"Morning Leo."

I stretched my arms and yawned; the floor was a little hard, but I didn't sleep too bad.

"Anything happen?"

I decided to ask.

"Nothing special."

"How long til you wake everyone up?"

"In 2 more beeps, I'll let everyone sleep a little longer."

So, about an hour?

"Alright." I continued,

"I'll be back I'm gonna go pee."

"Stay safe."

Getting up I walked into the forest, since the sun was coming out, I didn't need the device's light.

…

As I started to walk back, I heard what sounded like a tree falling. I looked towards the direction of the noise and scratched my head.

Wasn't there a saying or something? If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around, does it make a sound? But I guess since I was around to hear it, it did make a sound.

Oh well, I continued walking back to the camp.

I figured since this was the first mission I wrote and since I couldn't remember what happened that nothing special happened. I added it probably to get used to the characters or something.

After I got back at the camp, a few more people were awake. They didn't look too well though, maybe they were finally realizing that we'll actually be here for a week.

I sat back at the campfire and Kazu came up to me.

"Hey Leo."

I knew what he was going to ask me, he was going to ask me if I could sing again and calm everyone down but...

"It won't work."

This was something they needed to realize themselves, I could of course calm them down, but it wouldn't help with them becoming fine with the situation we're in.

"I see."

Kazu looked a little down. I decided to speak.

"They need words of encouragement more than a song right now. You got it."

Songs couldn't fix everything.

Luckily Kazu seemed a bit happier after my words. He stood up and began to speak.

"You're right! Thanks Leo!"

"Mhm."

---

An hour later Kazu had woken everyone up and gathered everyone around the campfire, most of them didn't look too well.

I sat down and Rio began to speak.

"Godo morning Leo!"

He looked fine, the situation didn't seem to be affecting him much or at all.

"Morning."

Taku and Ayaka sat in the seats next to me, Taku didn't seem too worried about it, but Ayaka looked a little iffy.

"Morning."

We all greeted each other good morning as Kazu cleared his throat and began to speak.

"E-hem!"

"Can everyone listen to me for a second please!"

All eyes were on him.

He took a deep breath before speaking.

"I know that a lot of people here are worried."

"Suddenly being told to survive in a forest for a week, suddenly having to live a different life then we've been living."

"But... It'll be okay! We can do it! We are students of Heavensward! The most prestigious school on the continent!"

"Surviving in a forest is nothing! We could do it with our eyes closed!"

Um... I don't think we could survive in a forest with our eyes closed... And is it the most prestigious school on the continent? I actually don't know.

Luckily it seemed like his speech worked as the students who were looking down before started to feel motivation. Well, most of the boys at least. The girls had a different problem and one of them began to speak.

"But..."

Everyone's attention went on her.

"We need TP!"

She desperately shouted out. A lot of agree-ances could be heard.

Huh? TP? Toilet paper? Just use some leaves?

"Just use leaves?"

Kazu said the words I thought.

"No!"

"You just don't get it!"

"Of course, you don't understand!"

"Idiot!"

He was met with an onslaught of words, man, am I glad I know how to stay silent.

…

A few dozen minutes later, after some heavy... And I mean heavy convincing Kazu and some of the other boys were barely, and I mean just barely able to work something out with them.

I stopped listening somewhere halfway through their talk and blanked out.

"Hmph, you all just don't understand women. Taku and Leo knew our problems." One of the girls said as an ending message.

To be clear, Taku and I didn't speak during the whole conversation because we were both naturally quiet.

After that was settled, we all went and did our roles. The explore team went to explore the cave that I found yesterday and me and Rio went to gather wood.

"Huh, Leo, What's this?"

Rio had called me over as he was looking down at something.

After I was next to him, I looked at what he was looking at and it was a big piece of wood.

"A club?"

It had looked like a club; it was as big as me.

Was this nature's work? Or maybe...

…

Sometime later after we finished collecting enough wood for the night we headed back to the camp. We dragged the club along with us as well, well to be clear it still could just be a tree that looked like a club.

We put our gatherings in a pile and then sat back at the campfire, the club-looking tree behind us.

The food and explore team were still out so we were just kind've waiting around talking with the camp team.
