Slowly, Kane began to burst out in laughter. After laughing for five minutes, he recovered and focused on the Silver Screen.
"Hmm, I'm truly no longer a human. At least not physically. Low stats makes sense for me since I didn't get the chance to exercise much... but my intelligence... Must be because of (Eldritch Brain). I wonder if I'm at the average levels for an adult male though..."
Looking a little further down, Kane saw another stat on the screen.
"Experience points... I suppose that's one of the power systems then. But the initial experience requirement seems high. Probably because of (Jack of All Trades). I'll have to figure out how EXP gain works then."
Looking at the screen for another three minutes, Kane closed it with a thought and began to plot out his next actions.
"Well, first I need food and water. Water first since I should be able to do that without a fight... hopefully. Then I need to test out (Genetic Mutability) to see what I can do with it now. I need to secure a source of food. And I need to make a fire."
Kane stood up and clapped.
"Then I suppose I should look for a water source first."
He bent over and picked up a rock the size of his palm.
"I'll use you to mark the route back to the cave. Hopefully there's water not too far from the cave."
With that, he chose a direction and began to wander.
As he walked by the trees of varying sizes, he marked them with the rock he had grabbed at the cave.
After about fifteen minutes of wandering, he heard a sound akin to moving water. Following the sound, he came to a river.
"Well, that means that I've completed my first objective."
Saying this he got on his knees at the riverbed and began to scoop handfuls of water into his mouth. While doing this, a certain rock caught his eye.
Done drinking water, he reached and grabbed the rock before holding it in front of him.
"Hmmm."
He smacked the rock against the one in his hand. From the collision, sparks flew.
"YES!!!" He exclaimed. "It's flint!"
"That'll come in handy with lighting a fire."
Saying this he rested a bit away from the river to regain his energy before making the walk back to the cave.
Five minutes later, Kane began to walk back to the cave, following the marks he had left on the trees, he noticed something. The marks he had left were slowly starting to disappear, as if the trees were healing the damage.
Realizing that this meant some of his marks could have disappeared, he began to run .
"Trees regenerate?!?! It appears that things aren't exactly what they seem."
Maintaining his awareness of his surroundings, Kane soon got to a point where he could see the cave.
"Just a little longer and I'll be safe... relatively."
However, as he spoke those words, he jumped to the ground as a tree branch swung at him.
"Damn, I jinxed myself!"
Positioning himself so that he was facing his unknown enemy, Kane realized that the enemy that swung at him was a tree that had begun to stand.
"Root legs? Is this an Ent?"
Wondering about the enemy he was facing, Kane rapidly went through various methods of fighting back before quickly remembering the flint he had dropped when he dodged the attack.
"Perfect. This world is based off games right? Then let's use some type advantages." He said with a smirk.
The moment the idea appeared in his head, he began to act. Sprinting towards the Ent, and flint and rock that he had dropped, he jumped to dodge another tree branch swung at him and successfully picked up the two objects that would be his weapons while closing the gap with the Ent.
"I hope this works."
With that statement, Kane hit the flint and rock together. From the collision, a spark flew and landed on the bark of the Ent.
Almost as if it had landed on the surface of a lake of gasoline, the spark quickly grew into a large fire, consuming the Ent in the blazing flames.
"I wonder if this world always works like that. If type advantages are always a thing then I'll have some trouble."
Stepping back to get some relief from the heat, the silver screen once again appeared in front of him. However, something had changed.
"Only one experience point? Was that thing too weak, or is every kill worth one point? I'll have to figure that out later when I have time."
Finally returning to the cave Kane sat down on his rock.
"I suppose that technically counts as making a fire?"
Analyzing his body to see if he had taken any damage during the fight, he noticed that his scar was gone.
"Amazing. (Regeneration Factor) can even heal old scars."
Admiring his leg that looked like it had never been harmed, he quickly forced himself to focus.
"As interesting as that may be, I need to focus. Clearly this place is dangerous, and I certainly can't guarantee good luck for each fight. So next on the to-do list is to experiment with (Genetic Mutability). I wonder what level of mutation I can achieve now..."
Saying this, he scratched the rock under him. There was no change to the rock. Then, he began to stare at his hand. As he began to will his nails to grow harder, sharper, and longer, he noticed a change. His nails slowly began to grow but stopped after growing a few centimeters.
"It looks like I'll have to work harder to improve the degree of change. Let's test the sharpness."
Saying this, he scratched the rock under him. As he scratched his fingernail against the rock, he noticed a thin light white line was left on the rock.
"It seems that sharpness and hardness both improved as well. This ability has potential, but isn't suitable for combat just yet."
Thinking about the potential (Genetic Mutability) had, he smiled.
"Although the idea is nice, I hope I can find civilization before anything. I may be immortal, but I don't want to spend forever in a forest without ever seeing more of the world."
Sighing, Kane looked outside at the sky.
"Hmm? Should be sometime in the evening. I should try and find a solution to my food problem before it gets dark."
Walking out of the cave, he looked around.
He pointed in a direction. "I went there for the water. Typically where there's water, there's animals. Fish, Bears, Deer, Etc. But I didn't see any while I was there. Considering that there are Ents in that forest, that might explain the lack of animals, but then that throws off the possibility of me getting food from there."
Deciding to take another look around, he began to wander around the cave. Walking around the other side of the cave, in the distance he saw what appeared to be a small village.
Staring for a moment, Kane slowly realized that he had never walked entirely behind the cave and instead decided to seek water first.
"... It's not bad that I decided to secure the means of survival first... but next time I should really do a complete check."
With that bit of advice to himself, he began to walk to the village, holding his flint and rock in his hands as he did."
After an hour of walking, he neared the entrance to the village.
"STOP!!!"
The command snapped Kane from his thoughts. Looking up he saw two men in leather armor holding swords.
"It's good I can understand the language." Kane mumbled to himself before speaking aloud.
"Yes? Is this village open to the public?"
The taller of the two guards spoke with a voice that gave Kane the assumption that he was a teenager.
"Yes, typically it is. But how can we just allow an unknown man, completely naked, to wander in? Who knows what you'll do."
Kane put his hand on his chin in a thinking motion.
"That is a fair point... I don't have clothes at the moment, or money... hmmm."
The shorter guard spoke with a deeper voice, giving the assumption that he was a man who had been through his share of troubles.
"We can't let you in without clothing. I'm sorry but it's of vital importance that we protect our village."
In response, Kane nodded. "I agree. It's good that you're serious about your jobs. Will any clothing do? Even shoddy ones that are handmade?"
The shorter guard nodded.
"As long as you cover yourself. I can't imagine it's easy for you considering you walked here from the direction of The Desolate Forest."
"Oh?" Kane showed a look of curiosity. "The Desolate Forest?"
The taller guard answered. "Yes. I hear it's called that because no one that goes in comes out, and that no bodies are ever found."
"Aye, there are tales of that nature. Be careful around that forest. Hopefully we see you again safe and sound."
Kane paused for a moment to think before nodding. "I'll attempt to piece together some clothing. Once I've succeeded I'll come back to the village."
Walking back towards his cave, Kane waved at the two guards and then to think about how he would get the clothing he needed.
