Chereads / Suckered Into Marrying My Scheming Lackey / Chapter 48 - Camilie calls her mother

Chapter 48 - Camilie calls her mother

Hearing this Camilie's brow squinted with slight annoyance. "Nonsense, Marcellus is from a very powerful family so how can he not be able to get a consultation with a small designer?" she said only for the door to push open and a slender woman with the face of a strict matriarch entered and after hearing how they belittle Lian her face was even uglier.

Almost everyone in this boutique had high regard and respect for Lian thus one shouldn't even dare to make such remarks in front of them otherwise they would make this appointment unbearable.

"Good morning. Who is the bride?" she asked and Ivy timidly raised her hand her face flushed.

"Congratulations he must be a very lucky man," she said in a robot almost forced tone dampening the excited Ivy's spirit.

"Let us go and try a few dresses shall we," she said and Ivy was suddenly given the illusion that she was going to prison instead. As soon as they left, Ivy's friend continued enlightening the auntie who had no idea who Lian was.

"The only consultation she has done personally was for the prime minister's daughter when she got married and a cancer survivor. Other than that she never takes consultations. Even the prime minister had to have connections. She is not the kind to try and please anyone," she explained and another of the girls said,

"This is we were so excited when thought Ivy had an appointment with Lian."

Camilie now understood Lian's status but she could not fathom how Amalie even managed to get her hands on that consultation. She suddenly had an ominous feeling. Who was Quinn marrying exactly?

She needed to find out the exact details asap. The situation was becoming even more desperate. She couldn't allow that girl to marry into a good family and let her become superior to her sweet Ivy. She sincerely believed that Ivy deserved the best and that whatever family she will marry into should be better than Quinn's. Only then will she be at ease. She couldn't let her sister defeat her. Once this idea took root it couldn't be shaken.

She took out her cell phone and told the girls that she would be right back. When she left the room she called a number that she rarely called.

On the third ring it was suddenly picked up and a raspy voice answered, "What do you want."

"Mother," she said her body showing slight fear.

"I have a lecture now so speak quickly," she said and Camilie cleared her throat before saying,

"It's Amalie's daughter. She is getting married."

"Congratulations. I also understand that your daughter is getting married too. Is it to the same man as well?" she asked with a hint of mockery in her voice.

Camilie's body trembled slightly hearing this. Her mother never liked that she had to share a man with a prostitute. She hated Amalie's mother so naturally, she also hated Amalie and her offspring.

"Do you want Ivy to steal her cousin's boyfriend just like you stole Amalie's husband? Oh wait, you didn't steal her husband. You just gave yourself away for a one night stand with that dog and he moved on to the next new thing in a day," she said with an eerie smile on her face.

"Mother I...," she said but her voice got stuck in her throat before she could speak when she heard that sinister laughter. She wanted to say that wasn't her reason and that she was satisfied with Marcellus but in the end, she couldn't say it.

"I will find who she is marrying. What you do with that piece of information though is entirely up to you. Just don't drag me into the muddy water like last time. Do you understand?" she said but before Camilie could answer her question the call was hung up.

When she returned to the room she was met by her red eyed daughter dressed in a magnificent wedding gown. She thought that Ivy was happy with it that was why she was crying but in truth, Ivy was crying because the price was ridiculously expensive and over their budget.

She didn't know if it was on purpose but the route they used to the dressing room had very gorgeous dresses and she instantly fell in love with the one she was wearing. When she asked for the price her heart sank.

It was triple the price she budgeted for and now that it was on her body she didn't want to take it off hence the crying.

Camilie put on a smile thinking with their budget they had indeed gotten a good bargain. She was about to say something when Tiffany, Ivy's best friend said, "It's triple the price."

Camilie, "..."

Wasn't this boutique professional? They were supposed to show clients what was within their budget which is why they asked in advance while setting the appointment.

"How did you try it on in the first place?" she asked her purse already itching.

Ivy who rarely spoke up for herself complained, "But this is from the saffron collection the one made by the designer Lian. Why can Quinn wear it and I can't? Won't Marcellus' family look down on me," she said and Camilie clenched her jaw tightly a little displeased. Her daughter had indeed learnt how to press her buttons.

The consultant fixed the back of the dress while saying, "Even an escort girl can afford a dress in the Saffron collection and they buy it because they know how to impress men. The price reflects its quality and I am sure the groom wil fall in love all of again when she walks down the aisle," she said her face remaining stoic.

"Fine but that's the last thing I am paying for," she said not even daring to think why this consultant said this. Had she heard what they said before or something?

Yes, she heard it. She heard it all and now Camilie's bank account was paying the price.

Ivy was so excited that she hugged her mother before rushing over to her friends as they squealed excitedly like little piglets. Camilie couldn't help but show a genuine smile she never shows to anyone else but her daughter.
