Their small fight lasts until "hey." Neon calls as he approaches her, standing before like a wall and obstructing her view, his hand behind his back.
"Leave me alone." She says grumpily, turning towards the other side as she avoids him.
Suddenly she feels something land on her lap forcing her to look.
A long box, wrapped in red and decorated in blue ribbon sits upon her lap.
"I'll let you be, after you get dressed, we have somewhere to be." He says before walking away.
"Hmm?!"
Stunned with surprise she hurriedly opens the box and looks inside, a beautiful silver dress lays inside, patiently waiting for its owner to pick it up.
"Do you not want to go outside?"
"I do." She answers without hesitation.
"Then get ready, we'll be going out in one hour."
Full of excitement, Maura hurries to her room, still avoiding their master room, and Neon gladly ships her materials to her new room without batting an eye.
After nearly thirty minutes, the two emerge from their rooms looking stunning, the type that makes eyes want to pop out, tongues roll like red carpets, and people hold their breaths.
"Where are we going?" Maura asks as Neon hurries to his neat ride.
He remains quiet until after they both get into the car and Neon locks the car from the driver's seat, then he turns to her side. "To apologize."
An overwhelming sense of betrayal occupies Maura's heart as she turns to Neon with a look of confusion.
It's at this very moment that she realizes she's been played.
"What?
I don't want to." She shouts, struggling with the door that doesn't budge.
He chuckles before breaking the unfortunate news to Maura, "well you have no damn choice, we're already on the road, and don't you think of doing anything stupid, if anything happens due to your actions, I'm taking you with me." He declares.
Tears well up in her eyes as she stares at him with sadness.
She wants to fight back, cry and begs Neon to turn the car around but the words fail to listen to her bright ideas. The more they drive, Maura fights with herself, debating on whether or not it's a good option to touch the steering wheel, but each time her hands reach towards Neon, she sees a rage greater than her resolve that causes her to shrink in fear.
Finally, she gives up and like a good girl doesn't create a fuss until they arrive at a spectacular gala.
"Mr Neon, it's good to see you," an old man says.
The moment the couple arrives, a small crowd of couples and partners gathers Neon, reaching out to him for a shake while they greet each other.
"Good to see you as well Mr Desmond," Neon says, he takes Maura by the shoulders, pushing her forward before introducing her. "Yes, and this is my wife, Maura."
"Oh, good to see you, Maura, you look lovely today."
The old man and his wife stretch their hands towards Maura who seems pleased to meet them, but before she can respond to their greeting she feels Neon lead her away from behind.
"Yes, well if you excuse me." He says.
At first, Maura frowns, she stares at Neon who still has to deal with the series of people before him and presumes, "maybe he doesn't like crowds." After all, contrary to the excitement on their face, Neon has a fake smile on his face, he doesn't seem happy to meet them.
Suddenly a voice cries from behind them, "Mr Neon."
A breathtaking lady in her late 40's approaches the couple.
Heads turn and people give way as she strolls towards them, displaying her powerful force of influence.
"Hello Mrs, Kathleen, have you met my wife, Maura."
Kathleen stares at Maura intensively and then a crooked smile curves on her face. "Yes, we've met before."
Maura intensively could sense that something isn't right as she subconsciously backs away, only to be supported by Neon's hand behind her back.
"Excellent, well if you excuse me, I have a few more people to meet." He says with a polite smile, but Maura can see a trace of sweat by the corner of his face although the weather was cold.
"Why are you avoiding them?" She whispers into his ear as they walk away.
"Because it'll be hard catching up with them because it's been so long since you fell into a coma.
You might not know what the trends are or what subject to talk about when you're around them." He says, lying through his teeth.
"Mr Neon, I can see you came."
Maura could hear her heart thump one at a time, she takes in a deep breath as she freezes on her track.
Time seems to slow down, and her hearing elevates to another level as she hears one familiar footstep, walking up to her.
A familiar fragrance slips into her nose as she closes her eyes, taking one step at a time to turn around.
"Yes.
A pleasure to meet you, Mr Ethan." She hears Neon's voice echo inside her head, snapping her out of her solitude.
"I can see you brought a guest, are you enjoying my party?" Ethan asks.
"Yes, and also I'd like to apologize for my wife's rudeness." She hears Neon say.
Ethan chuckles and breaks as he clears his throat. "Your wife?" He questions.
"Yes, Maura." He says, slipping his hand around Maura's waist as he turns her around.
Ethan's eyes widen with shock and horror, his words freeze as his eyes tremble while he stares at her.
"You'd have to forgive her, she was a bit emotional when she saw the news.
Maura happened to be involved in an accident and she was in a horrible condition after that, since that time we've been going from one hospital to another." Neon says.
Maura turns to Neon, refusing to believe her ears as he downgrades her as faulty.
"Neon?!" She calls out to him, squeezing his arm to get him to stop, but he continues anyway, refusing to stop.
Bearing a strong face he neglects her attempt, "anyway, it turned out she's been friends with your wife, and recently she was involved in an accident and when she woke up, the news hit her, I believe she's just sad about the whole thing especially since she couldn't say a goodbye to her friend."
Ethan and Jane stare at each other, wondering why he was giving such an explanation.
"I see," Jane answers with a smirk. "So, Mrs Neon had a slight medical problem. It must have been hard on you ma'am, to have woken up and heard such news."
Maura faces the floor, gritting her teeth with sadness as she leaves Neon's arm, barely sustaining her smile she says to them, "excuse me." Before walking away.
"Maura!" Neon calls out to her, but just as he avoids her, she pays no heed to him and walks away.
"Ha." She breathes out in relief, bending towards the sink after seeking refuge in the powder room.
Since arriving, she's felt the pressure from Neon's circle choke her so that she's unable to breathe, now that she's away from everyone, she feels alive once again and free.
She takes a few minutes to calm her nerves and retouch her makeup when suddenly she hears someone else come in.
CLICK!
The person suddenly locks the door, and the sound of heels echoes in the bathroom.
Maura looks into the mirror as she sees an image that makes her nauseous and sighs in frustration.
"I never expected to meet you here," June says as she approaches. "We meet again Mrs. Neon."
Two enemies all alone in one big restroom, what could go wrong?
